These things came to my mind about my native Washington State. Where did all the original inhabitants go? At one point, a generation after the Duwamish helped initial European immigrants, these original natives were shipped to a reservation across the water NE of Bremerton. Their biggest communities are now a state park and an empty fallow wetland. Their most important river was diverted to support a new set of locks in Ballard. We ARE the thieves here. These people need to be re-invited back into our communities, with abject apologies, and active financial support, and with the the quest on setting things right.

It is wonderful to hear this interview. I have had an online subscription to Haaretz for years and always looked for Gideon Levy's reports. I think the British must share some of the guilt due to the Balfour promises and also promises to the Palestinians which were contradictory as I recall. When my eyes were open both by Jewish Voice for Peace and a book by Ilan Pappe, I have financially supported many Palestinian Justice groups. I think with continued pressure the US may decrease its huge financial support for Israel. I believe Israel gets more of our tax dollars than any other nation on this planet.

This interview, occurring before October 7 was prophetic. Gideon Levy gives me hope that some day there will be justice in Palestine, but for now it looks like Israel will have to reach the depths of depravity, before the world recognizes the crimes being committed there. Unfortunately, much of the world is using Palestine as a testing ground for military techniques to suppress dissent in their own countries. I don't see how there is ever going to be democracy in Israel without the Western world first coming to terms with its settler colonial past and present.

It's very late in the day to be horrified. When Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 and the violence and mass killings that ensued, it should then have been clear what the Zionist project was really about. I was a 19yr old law student at the time. And it was plain to see. The focus shud be on how the Palestinians are going to be granted a just outcome in a very limited piece of real estate. Israel continues to permit Jews from faraway places to occupy Palestinian land. Those occupiers must know that they will be the first to be sacrificed, then the politicians, and finally the generals. I think most Israelis don't live in biblical delusions. I think we are educated and indoctrinated from a very young age to fear and despise Palestinians, we never get to meet them on a human level. The first Palestinian I met was when I was 20, in a music festival in the US. It's easy to become insensitive when you grow up with buses exploding around you, and when you are constantly exposed to de-humanizing messages from media and people around you.
