REALLY disappointed with RR, great book series, good production and I like Jamey Stegmeier in his approachability... BUT as u said, 1) literally no theme (which is criminal with the tragic and epic story of the books), 2) spreadsheet at the end. But in addition for me: 3) almost no player interaction (again, tragic if u know the story, its like GOT in space); 4) secret hands + large deck means there's hardly anything to do to interfere with anyone else's plans. This IP needed something like the Dune or GOT board games. At least I sold it for a profit. But I won't get our precious game time back :(

As I said in the video I was hoping for a reskin of Scythe with extra stuff to make it fit the theme. This would’ve been an epic game. Bummer.

Most the collectors items are fairly bad, my gold cards are indented and marked, my card holders fall over with the wind of moving, the insert won’t let me store it vertical, the cubes are hard for people to differentiate. Just not a premium product.

The card stands are really poor. I used the memoir 44 ones instead.

Finally an honest review on this game. Fantasy realms is a good comparison. A little luck and the memorization of the cards helps to build good combos. I’m on the fence about this one. And it’s sold out anyway. Like you said you whoever knows what cards are in the deck will Have an advantage

Good review. I have the game and I liked it HOWEVER everyone at the table had read the books. I personally would give the game an 8 but would be content downgrading that to a 7 (or slightly less) to someone who is unfamiliar with the books. Mechanics alone this game is ok, as a tool to reminisce around the table of the characters that pop up and there story in the books, you are going to get at least a rating point up from that.

A slightly disappointing outcome for this one. I didn't back the project, as I had my doubts about this being a game I would enjoy, but I would have given it consideration at retail, but it seems I may need to amend that idea, or at the very least seek further opinions.

Somewhat ‘late to the party’ here with commenting from when you originally published this video, I know…not without its flaws, this is a Stonemaier Game that we do still like to play alot in our family! We currently own the retail version/edition, but I’m definitely looking to upgrade to the Collector’s version/edition components. …I’m a big fan of the books and super impressed by this game’s quality of card graphics/artwork (and, a lot/100+ of them, too)! In my opinion, the accuracy of the character depictions in the card graphics/artwork are on point and top notch; alot of attention to detail, for sure, and stayed true, I think, to the books (Fitchner’s bubble gum, etc). Thanks for the great video on this game! - Howie

Great review. I was on the fence about this one. I really like how Stonemaier operate as a company but their games can be hit and miss. So far Scythe is the only one that has really impressed me. Thanks again!

Thanks for your review. This looks like tons of reading and ‘rithmetic. My aunt and I were miffed at the end of our first game of Cat Lady. 7 scoring categories and they couldn’t even provide a score pad.

Retail is quite reasonable in terms of price. Metal stuff is plastic and there’s no gold leaf in cards.

i think it is a game that you need a memorize the cards or at least familarize yourself with all the cards to play well. I tried the game once but struggled. I want to like it...... the scoring is also overwelming. I need to try and play this one again.

Problem is, with my group at least, is we play with different people each week so it would be unfair to put new players in with veterans. This limits the times it would see the table.
