This is actually such an incredible endeavor, Elle. It's not cheap and easy to do an edition comparison video like this. *applause* I think my favorite will have to be the Subterranean Press and Barnes and Noble edition (too bad they discontinue this edition after the first book!) I really like when books have a black cover with a color picture on it like many of the editions of this series have because the black background really makes the color pop. I think the U.S. basic edition is one of the best ones. It's simple with a different colored picture for each one, but it stands out. I also really love the Fairyloot ones. They're amazing and gorgeous.

I absolutely LOVE seeing what other countries' book covers look like for a book I really enjoyed. I have a bunch of copies of The Hobbit I've collected when I've traveled, and it's really surprising how different the covers look from culture to culture.

I finished the Expanse books a few months back and was looking for something to fill the void of a good scifi series. One of your videos popped up on my feed over the Expanse and you recommended Red Rising in it. Thank you tons! It's an amazing series thus far. I just finished the 2nd book Golden Son. Had to immediately start Morning Star after that intense ending.

Ok I appreciate this video in it's entirety, not only do I love gorgeous covers but I started Red Rising with my husband and he put it down and then I did not even half way through, it comes so highly recommended I will finish it but I find the beginning a little dry...I need to pick it back up!

6:32 I agree with you on these ones! To me it seems like the art on the non-english covers somehow conveys …temperature, as well, in a way? If that makes any sense? Like the feeling of heat radiating off, etc. Not sure if this makes sense but it’s how I see it! I love how that the Juniper set will sell sleeves on their own!

The Fairyloot edition is definitely my favorite although I'm probably a little biased cause it's the set I own lol. Honestly, the Subterranean Press set is my second favorite and third has to be the Juniper set.

I love the Juniper and especially the Subterranean ones. I think this is one series that the originals are wonderful too. The Fairyloot books almost seem too fun and pretty for the story. Not sure I like the purple or the paler yellow of Golden Son. The other special editions capture the darker tone of the books better. And the international editions are all over the place - some great, some not so much. Nice seeing them all together though to compare!

I really love the Sub Press edition, but after buying a few other Subterranean Press books, I don't think I can justify the price. Yeah, some of their editions are nice, but I think buyers are overpaying solely due to the editions being so limited. I'm pretty sure the Malazan series goes for 10K+ just because of how limited the printing was. Wooow

Today I learned that my B&N edition has illustrations… that’s what happens when I don’t read what I buy lol. With that being said, I LOVE the feel to that edition. The cover already looks textured so it’s kinda awesome that it feels textured too. It has like a lighter sandpaper feel to it. But honestly, I just checked the print copyright and it’s dated 2018. With it being almost 4 years, I’m starting to doubt they will make B&N editions for the rest of the series 😔

i was wondering if you'd show the czech edition, as I got that one at home. Not the best cover for me but I was still stoked that they are translating this series into Czech. Yeah...turns out that only the first book was translated and there are no intentions of continuing, which is a shame. I'm so lucky I'm good at English.

What is the difference between the Hodder and Del Rey publications for the paperbacks? I have the first two books published by Del Rey and was looking to buy the whole set online on Amazon. The set online is sold by Pierce Brown but it's published by Hodder. Will the text be exactly the same for both publications?

I actually bought the Barnes and Noble edition and it's one of the only books I've ever returned to the store...for a ~special edition~ it just wasn't special enough. The cover, endpapers, 5 illustrations, and a preface were all that was new, the quality of the paper was regular, there wasn't anything under the dust jacket, no sprayed edges...it just felt lackluster to me, especially for an uptick in price like that

Interesting. I thought the price was justified because when I bought it, it was the same price as other hardcovers. Sprayed edges can be cool, and I do think a black spray would have complemented this edition very well, but sometimes it can be a bad thing. Like the Fairyloot editions that Elle showed, it looks like the spray on the top is rubbing off and I hate that.

Honestly, I didn't like all those wings. Other than the Phoenix metaphor, wings have nothing to do with it. And some of them got so into the wings it didn't look like what it was- a Sci fi novel about slavery and revolution

No offense to anyone who likes that company, but imo Juniper is incredibly overrated and overpriced for what they offer... 😅 Like honestly I think the mass market hardbacks are way prettier for one thing. My favourite special editions are definitely the FairyLoot ones, though for that price they should be illustrated as well lol - bit of a rip-off otherwise. The Sub Press cover illustration is definitely my favourite art-wise, and I also really like the design of the German edition. I mean yes it's a bit generic but it still appealing to me for some reason. The Polish one was truly hideous lmao. Also... no French edition?

Honestly, agreed about what you said on Juniper. I bought the set for A Song of Ice and Fire (for the books that are out, ughhhh) and they are really nice. But I bought them for less than $50 since Juniper had a 10 percent off coupon or something. That's less than $10 per cover. Now that set has gone up by like $20-30. No thanks! Also, even though mine are still in perfect condition, you can see on Elle's edition for Red Rising that the top of one of the Juniper covers is folding down so I dislike that most likely get shelf damage just like any other standard cover.
