I'm honestly so happy that "The Florida Project" is someone else's favorite movie. I always show people it hoping they love it as much as I do. but sadly everyone finds it very boring. Red Rocket was fantastic and Sean Baker is an amazing director. Can't wait to see what he does next. I loved this review and everything you said about Mikey (Simon) was 100% correct. He was so unbearable as the film went on

The refineries that dominate the Houston coastal landscape is what is keeping it from being the Miami Beach alternative. So ugly. On the other hand, San Antonio and South Padre are the best!

Definitely one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Love seeing comedic actors take more serious roles. Seeing Simon Rex getting all the praise from critics for his performance considering his past films really makes me appreciate how directors like Sean Baker or Paul Thomas Anderson (Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love) are experimental in their lead actor choices as it can pay off greatly. I hope to see Simon Rex in more dramatic roles!

This film is a work of art. It takes you down the road of many cinema tropes, and then each time turns them on their heads. Following an unconventional protagonist who is essentially a sociopath, makes the film an anxiety inducing and uncomfortable watch, while simultaneously being shot in such a gorgeous way that it constantly soothes the abrasive material. It also dangles the promise of a hopeful future just far enough out of reach that even with the obvious collateral damage, there is still something to root for. These elements make for a pretty mesmerising watch with poignant political undertones set against a rugged and storied backdrop.

Glad to see Sean Baker coming back now! I find it interesting that in The Florida Project he casts an Instagram model and now in Red Rocket he hires an ex pornstar.
@landonle33083 жыл бұрын
Simon Rex has already had a long established acting career already. He only did soft core porn of him only masturabting anyways for an extra buck and only did it for like a year way back in 1993. He was already since been known for the scary movie franchise and the sitcom what I liked about you that started Amanda Byrnes
@JamesFrew13 жыл бұрын
Simon Rex was never a porn star. He jacked off in front of the camera for a couple films but it’s not like he was known for that, he was known as a model and an MTV VJ, and he was huge in the 90s.

Ugh... I hated this movie... It was disgusting. This narcissistic bastard's grooming of a headachingly stupid teenage girl was just... Not done properly. It's almost as if he was painted as the victim in the end, and the girl was just a prop along the way. While watching this abomination of a film I had the urge to walk out of the theatre. And you know what? I should have listened to that urge. I wouldn't recommend watching this, but if you do plan to, read some reviews and do some research on the plot beforehand.
@maryvallettakeith61462 жыл бұрын
@@randomname697 So do you only watch movies about people who have no flaws? Art deals with reality; people have flaws. Get over it ffs. You're not condoning what the characters do by watching this film. Film is beautiful in the sense that, like all art, it allows us to try and understand all aspects of life, even the most disgusting (your words) and unpleasant, without condoning or accepting it and without participating in it. There are people who do these sorts of things. Maybe try and understand why people do these 'disgusting' things and use that knowledge to make the world a better place. Or you could just close your eyes and mind and pretend it's not there. Not everyone can be a world changer though. It takes a fierceness and real courage. Not sure you have what it takes. Or do you?

I found its opening stretch too langourously paced, but otherwise loved it. It's one of my favourite movies of the year. How much someone likes it, though, and it's the same thing with 2014's amazing Nightcrawler, depends on how willing a viewer is to follow the misadventures of a blatant sociopath who keeps escaping the consequences of bad karma. The difference here is that the main character is a very low functioning sociopath in relation to Nightcrawler's Lou Bloom. He's too dumb and short sighted to pull any grand crimes off. He's just a garden variety absolute asshole. He's very entertaining, though. Both Simon Rex and Susanna Son are wonderful in this.

I really like the way the Protagonist uses his Big D Energy and acomplished skillset to lift up and improve the lives of all the female characters only to be once again targeted by thier jealousy and destroyed by thier Female dominated little dystopian society. It should be used as a Warning of what Woke Politics will surely bring more of in the future!! Excellent film!!

I didn’t like this movie very much. All the characters are unlikable losers lol. Rex is the best character in the movie and is kind of likable until you get near the end. Then you are mostly disgusted by him. The movie isn’t funny either despite what these reviews say. Its just kind of dark and gross. Worthy of one watch only.
