I mounted my refugium light on the front side of the glass shining towards the back of the sump. That way the baffles block the light. I got one of those chaeto lights that are flat. It was on sale for $50. I've notice considerable growth as well. I know it doesnt look the best but it will stop algae growth
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
That is sort of what I did with my light. I am still waiting for my chaeto to grow, lets see how many times I have to buy macro algae! haha

Very Nice Pelphrey. I've often checked out those baffle kits from over seas. Was wondering why nobody in the US was making them. Blue Tide to the rescue. Awesome!
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thanks reefkpr!! I think he nailed it with the dimensions I sent him! I wondered the same thing for a long long time. When I got serious about it I wasn’t going to spend $40 + on shipping.
@Reefgrrl6 жыл бұрын
I bet you’ll get an awesome tumble on your chaeto, with the flow you’ve got going in that section where the rock is! That baffle kit is a great idea. 👍🏻👍🏻
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! I hope I can grow it, I’ve had tanks that would grow Chaeto and others that wouldn’t. I’m about to find out!

Looks great! Working my way thru first 6 months of my tank, but this looks like a great addition going forward.... will see how yours works out, and of course check Blue Tide Acrylics!!

Thanks for stopping by! Been running the refugium for a few weeks now and love it!

Looking good man! I don’t think I’ll ever set up a tank without a fuge! It works great!
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir!!! I’m anxious to try it out!
@Jordan-se3gv6 жыл бұрын
Have you thought about having the skimmer in the first section and the fuge in the second section? That way your filter socks won’t get as much algae growth due to the fuge light shining on them intensely. Also it minimises any pods being sucked into the skimmer if the skimmer is before the fuge.
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much!! Something I NEVER even thought about. Now to figure out where to put the pump for my reactor since it’s in my skimmer section! Your logic. Ales perfect sense!

It's like a totally new sump, looks awesome. Hope it works out 👍👍🎄🎄

Thanks billy!! Looking forward to trying it out! Another downfall to a predrilled tank. Sump options are there but they are expensive!

How did this end up working? I have the same tank/sump and phosphate control is a pain and want a fuge but space is limited.

Did this baffle kit work for you? What made you ditch it and replace the sump?
@pelphrey5 жыл бұрын
It did work for me, I just got the chance to go with a bigger sump... Or slightly bigger anyway!

Hey pelphrey happy new year sorry if i missed it but could u give me the dimensions of the skimmer chamber and fuge chamber i would like to see if my skimmer fits but i would like to keep it in the filter sock side so the pods dont get sucked up into the skimmer thanks in advance
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to measure it, I'll see what I can do!

Do you have to remove the original ato with that fuge addition I want to add that to my system but I use the side space for my chiller
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
I have my stock fuge and tried it out, well the best that I could. Since I changed out my redsea valve for a gate valve the stock ATO doesn't fit in my sump. Just looking at the ATO and baffle kit I see no issue with it.

I know the video is old but hopefully youll get this. I ordered the baffle kit and then realised when ibstarted shopping for a skimmer (i was only running refugium) that i dont know the sizes of the chambers. Any chance you could tell me how wide they are

Sorry. Sold tank half a year ago or so!

Looks great Pelphrey. I was curious why were you running micro bubbles in the refugium section?
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
The only reason it’s there is to provide flow around that established rock.

Hey Pelphrey, I’m about to start up my Reefer 250 and am at trying to solve the refugium issue myself. My brother has been pushing me to do one but I don’t want to purchase another sump and cabinet space as you know is limited. What heater are you using in your sump now? I have 150w Jagers but they are too long to use with this baffle kit. Please advise. Thank you!
@pelphrey5 жыл бұрын
I ran my heaters in the baffle the sponge sat in originally, I took that sponge out from the get go. Both of the eheim heaters I had running in that sump fit there perfectly!

Why the bubbler in the refugium? Wouldn’t it just create a lot of salt spray, and the skimmer is already aerating the water?
@pelphrey6 жыл бұрын
The only reason it’s there is to provide flow around that established rock. It doesn’t create salt spray though.

How are your two royal grammas getting on together? Would you recommend long term?
@pelphrey5 жыл бұрын
They get along great! I've had them for awhile now, hard to say how long. Maybe a year or so.
@MilliradianRaptor6 жыл бұрын
If your trying to add pods I'd switch the skimmer to where the rock is and put the rock in the last chamber. Your just gonna suck them up in your skimmer.

Jordan mentioned the same thing. Sump has been reconfigured. Thank you very much for the suggestion!

Not worth the hassle now since I took the lights out and it would need a new screen.

pelphrey if you change your mind let me know I’m willing to buy new screen and lights thx new scrubber is just so expensive
