A small tube of Loctite is an invaluable part of any good tool kit. You’re bound to come across a bolt or nut occasionally that you want to make absolutely sure that it won’t rattle loose.

Just a heads up, Red Loctite can be removed. You just have to heat it to 550 degrees Fahrenheit first.

My favorite tool is a butane torch. I used loctite red on a shift knob and permanently welded it to the shifter linkage. This was a mistake. No amount of torque that I could manually supply would remove it, and more torque would likely damage the linkage. Thankfully loctite has a secret weakness. I heated up the shifter linkage near the shift knob with the torch and sure enough, was able to unscrew it. That's my story... don't make the same mistake I did.

The video and no comments thus far mention a key element to using threadlocker: there must be a complete absence of air for it to work i.e. it cures anaerobically when in contact with metal.

Affixing a removable bolt with no nut holds but undoing it can be permanent , if blue is removable but not permanent hold shouldn't red be replaced for antiseize cause at times corrosion resistant braking will eat the product and so the bolts entirely lubricated won't rust maybe or collect road grime remember as I did for bearings Lubis as front as the part your assembly is requiring to change not actually backsides to the assembled lubricated area some times it shouldn't be done if you can't see that corrosion protection then apply it on the front so to speak it mite enter that by curing time so nlgi grades is a lubricant that if lubricates will wash off , try to do front wheel drives it's going to be sure less on the back but always inspect by looking and allow curing time so the products are carefully while they split wear off or become intermittent

Can I use blue or red loctite with PTFE Thread seal tape?.
@ZachFields
@ZachFields 4 жыл бұрын
Nope, not really. PTFE is meant to lubricate the threads and loctite would not stick to it. Usually ptfe or Teflon tape is used on pipe fittings and they don't typically have problems vibrating loose.

Based on my understanding of their website (link below) and other Loctite liturature, green is for preassembled fasteners and is considered "medium-to-high-strength" whereas purple, blue, and red are low, medium, and high strength respectively. www.henkel-adhesives.com/us/en/insights/all-insights/blog/difference-between-threadlockers.html#:~:text=LOCTITE%C2%AE%20Green%20Threadlocker%20is,with%20heat%20and%20hand%20tools.

Pls do you know which one is better for inner tie rod: Loctite 271 or 272? In one film on utube, he said 272, but on the 271 it is said for rods up to 3/4 in in D. That is a diameter on the car in utube film and on my car. On 272 it is said up to 1-1/2". I would appreciate any opinion on this matter.

As far as I can tell, either would work just fine. Both are red permanent loctite.
@olenaerhardt7725
@olenaerhardt7725 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZachFields Thank you. Probably I'll go with a bit weaker 271, bcs some people apply Blue, some just none and torque it. I think still better to apply some threadlocker, because it prevents any voids with air and moisture, so less rust. Though it is harder to remove it in the case of necessity, but more safe. Actually the old inner rod I removed just with Blast PB Penetrate Catalyst with no heat, and there was some red mark on the thread of the rod (though on that end which goes towards the ball, like 4-5 thread lines were covered. You would expect the first threads (end of the rod, which goes to the steering rack) to be covered, and not the last ones. So can't say for sure if that trace was from any red threadlocker. The car was in dealership and they stated they did change the both rods). From another side to remove a part using heat sounds like an interesting project.
