Bravo!!! Awesome comparison. I’m learning to love my Raven more. RED is a temperamental beautiful beast. Good thing I’m good with computers 😂👌🏾👁🎥🎬

from what I understand the Raven is actually in between a micro 4/3 and a s35 as far as sensor size goes.
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. The Raven is not a full S35 sensor, there is actually a 1.10x crop factor putting it between a S35 and Micro 4/3 like you said. I've added that to my errors & omissions in the show notes. Lots of info to go over, unfortunately will make a mistake here and there : / Thanks for pointing that out!!

6:00 you can compare the depth of field, it's a bit different because of the size of the sensors

Hello and thank you for your Video! One question i have.. the red raven are working with rolling shutter or with global shutter? i think because it have a cmos sensor, it is rolling shutter, and a 1.6 crop,.. is that correct? :D i think about to buy a red raven, and make my gh5s to a b camera, and for low light situation. but i need a global shutter for flash light effects in videos :) Thank you

awesome video! i think this has helped me a little, so i have hired a red raven to film a feature film (a family drama mainly set in a house); but i have another guy telling me i shouldnt have hired the raven and i should hire the dragon from him for an extra $2000 as he said no one uses the raven for a feature film- especially for theatre release- what would you take on this be? should I go ahead with the raven or dragon?
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Bahinie Theva I think that sounds like he is just trying to get you to hire him instead. People have shot movies on their iPhones and have entered and won festival awards. Features used to be shot on cameras way shittier than the RED Raven. To think the Raven wouldn’t be adequate is absolutley ridiculous.

I could tell on the eye shots that the Weapon was noticeably sharper, but I have perfect vision and a trained eye, looking at a 5k monitor. They both put out such an incredible image.
@mohdeeppuar12566 жыл бұрын
Sorry to doubt your trained eye but the difference between sharpness on both cameras is because raven is focusing on center of nose or forehead and weapon is focusing on eyes

Can you check out the Scarlet MX in 2018? It is going for 3-4k on the used market right now and kits are very affordable :)

Wow! Really good content! What about ISO difference? Is it the same "quality" ? Actually i'm planning to buy a Scarlet-W or a RAVEN and honestly i don't think i will use another mount than EF-Mount.. what do you think? Is it worth the money to buy a Scarlet-W instead of RAVEN (speaking only about image quality, iso performance, dynamic range, etc..) ! Thanks for your help and please continue all your tests and reviews! Greetings from Switzerland!

@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
@One I haven't done tests, but if the image quality isn't much different from the Weapon to Raven, I can't imagine the Scarlet would be any different, if not closer! And they share the Dragon sensor so they really should be spot on. And it's only a 1/2k difference (4.5k - 5k). Plus the Raven shoots 120fps using the whole sensor!! If you want 120 on the scarlet you have to drop down to 4k and crop in on the sensor. AND the Raven is cheaper! Unless you need PL Mounts, or on camera LUT support or a couple other small features, there's really no need to spend the extra money in my opinion. My conclusion from these tests were that the Raven can keep up with any other RED camera as far as image, and unless you have clients asking for specific things that the Raven doesn't offer, I dont see the need to splurge right away unless you just have the extra cash hanging around, then go for it.

Jersey Filmmaker Scarlet W may have the same Dragon sensor with the exact same pixel density-but it’s a larger cut. So shooting 4K will have the act same field of view on both the Scarlet W and Raven. The Scarlet W has the best bang for the buck, does 4K pro res internally (Raven only does up to HD), higher data rates (170MB/s compared to Raven’s 140MB/s) so you get a bit better quality especially in slow motion, 3D LUT support, interchangeable OLPFs and lens mounts.
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
@ChrisKennedy All very valid points and should be considered. But my main point and results from this video is the you can get such a similar image from anywhere from the Raven all the way through the Weapon! So the things you mentioned should be considered the most when purchasing, not "image quality" because you can get badass high quality stuff from any of RED's cameras and sensors.

Your comparing a 4.5 cam and an 8k camera. Curious why you uploaded in 1080p?? kinda defeats the purpose. Anyway it was a good video tho. Thanks.
@mohdeeppuar12566 жыл бұрын
In my Opinion, the eye test is not accurate because Raven is focusing on forehead and Weapon is focusing on eyes. because some people can think of it as difference between sharpness on different Cameras. Correct me if i m wrong
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't consider it, "not accurate". I don't think either of the shots are focused on her eyes if you are taking about the freeze frame. I was pretty wide open on this macro shot so she would move in and out of focus even with the slightest movement. When I do freeze frame, the skin under her eyes closest to the nose is a good comparison, along with certain eyelashes. If you pause the video at the 5:47, her forehead and eyebrows are all in focus (this is probably where I should've done the freeze frame). So go through and stop the video at different times and compare, then let me know if you still think the same?

Nice video!But honestly ,I dont understand crop of red cameras, it is all little strange, because, I took "red raven guide" from red web,and width of chip is there 23.0mm and it is between Nikon and Sony aps-c chips-Canon 22.5mm-crop cca 1.6,Sony 23.5mm-crop cca 1.5,Scarlet 5K has 25.6mm and so I expect Scarlet crop cca 1.38 (cca like APS-H on some older canon DSLR) and Raven 1.52 at 4.5K Full Format (4608 x 2160)=full width of sensor in their technical specification?...! so when we compare scarlet width chip with raven is 1.1X more. I Asked red brand support directly of crop of red raven, they answer me with no numbers;-)only gave some photo with comparing angles of view on their different cameras and link to they red tools on web for crop, but there is even not directly red raven on this tool!!!;-) they apparently avoid to give direct answer!!!;-)So my simple question is, when I take f.e.Canon 50MM, what will be equivalent of width of my video to 35mm?...!On Canon APSC like 600D or so 80MM(X1.6), sony A6300 cca 75mm(X1.5) ,so ON RED RAVEN?...!cca 76mm(X1.52) or something like 83mm(X1.66) or even more ?...!THANKS A LOT! I think I am not only one confused...

@Excalibrr16 жыл бұрын
But than it means, that they are lying about chip width or raven doesnt use full sensor,or what? because I heard that this crop between super35 and MTF was when they had first news,models about only 4K and 20.0mm on raven, but after 4.5 activating and 23.0mm situation had changed, sorry I am still confused because of their nowadays own technical specification of chip width 23.0 gives simply 35mm/23mm= 1.52, of course when we take crop to diagonal of video not width it is different situation, but who cares about "diagonal crop"?!Because I need to know, which lens I have to buy if I want for example ca 50mm witdh of video as on my a7RII...
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Excalibrr1 your technical talk is beyond my knowledge. I just try to stick with full frame lenses so they cover any sensor on any camera I have in my lineup. If I had lenses specific to each camera, that would cost me a fortune. And when I rent for higher end jobs, I end up consulting guys like you to make sure they would fit lol
@Excalibrr16 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I dont mean it bad, but I cant help myself-crop isnt theoretical number, it is important number for real life, , because you must count with it not only for angle of view but also depth of field! and which is usually known withouth absolutely no problem in cameras for 1/4 to even 1/20 price of Red raven kit, so logical when I think to buy camera in this HIGH price level and Red even cant for some reasons answer it ,It does not encourage confidence to this camera and this brand, sorry...(especially when even today here are possibilites of FF look video as A7R or A7S series, need slowmo?- in GH5, GH5s 180-240p, all for uncomparable price and weight and size ,cameras with internal stabilisation and cheap true video zoom lenses like Sony 28-135/4 etc ,or with raw: Blackmagic 4.6k, Canon C200 etc...or FS7 with good codecs etc)so for me is crop between 1.5 and 2 (MFT) NOWADAYS unacceptable in this price level, because simply l dont know any cca 28-29mm/1-1.1 lens to get out from this camera absolutely usual 50mm/1.8 on my sony A7RII! :-(
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Excalibrr1 I’m sorry if you thought I took it as bad, I certainly didn’t. It’s just, like I said, very technical but it all makes perfect sense (that message was a little bit more in layman’s terms than the others tho lol). I guarantee the majority of camera owners do not think along the lines you are before purchasing the camera. I personally definitely think about the sensor size, but I don’t look into why they haven’t made it bigger for the price, that’s very interesting!! You should make videos and teach that stuff, I would watch!! 🙌🏼
