What pair of danners did you wear?
@chambo92123 жыл бұрын
@@Jw-uz8xi I wore the hot RATs. I think they are called the Mojave rats now. It’s the one with the dark brown toe and heel cap. Even though the ones I have are meant for hot weather I wore them in cold weather as well but I just doubled up on the socks. Never had the soles freeze and lose traction. The fact that they are re-craftable makes the price more than worth it.

@@chambo9212 I've got a pair also. The Danner RAT was specifically designed for The Marine Corp. Marines wanted a top quality boot with little to no break in. They are the most comfortable combat boot I've ever worn. I also have 3 pairs of Acadias. The Acadias took about a month before they molded to my foot and felt like sneakers. I love Danners. I have 8 pairs and each pair is absolutely perfect. So many ppl out there won't spend the money on top quality boots. I learned years ago that a great pair of boots makes all the difference in the world. Love my RAT boots. Glad you do too!!

If you're having problems with blisters when breaking in a boot or shoe, one trick we were taught in Army Basic Training for our first long-distance marches was to wear a pair of nylons under our socks. That way the nylon and sock slide back and forth across each other rather than the sock and your foot, which results in the separation of skin layers/blisters. Plus, since it's just a nylon your feet won't overheat like might happen if you are wearing sock liners like hikers often wear.

You got some key points. The biggest difference from me is the leather quality. I have done plenty of work on different brands and red wing always has the superior leather due to their American leathers from SB foot tannery. But other brands have better out of the box comfort.

Technically the danner leather is thinner but not by so much its noticable, and even at that its still much thicker leather than most other moc toe boots out there. To me red wings name and reputation sells. Unfortunately they have changed over the years and the quality isnt any higher than most of the top boot company's today.
@aaronbuckmaster70634 жыл бұрын
Danger boots every time. The men I worked with who wore Red Wing’s had to resole them long before I had to resole my Danners. The double layered construction on my Danners held up much better than those same Red Wings. Easier to clean and polished, much more comfortable and much safer in hazardous environments. This is my opinion from 20+ years with the same two pair of Danner boots I purchased at the beginning of my career. Danners every time.

Red wing 877 is the ironworker boot because the leather lasts and the sole is soft enough to grip but not overly soft to wear down too quickly, plus they are easy to resole.

Danner makes a prized boot by the USMC. Different companies make boots for the USMC that Marines can buy. The Danner brand is the most expensive one offered and prized, comfortable from day 1. Danner also uses Vibram sole, which also makes it great, and not squishy.
@markalexander7743 жыл бұрын
Red Wing is the better casual boot: It is more fashion focused, it is more long lasting, it is more expensive, etc. The Danner is more of an actual work boot: It has a steel toe option, meaning that it is actually allowed on job sites, unlike the Red Wing. Does Red Wing not know how many sales they are missing out on because they do not offer this nor the Iron Ranger with a steel toe? Half of the construction workers in this country would be wearing either the Red Wing Classic Moc or the Red Wing Iron Ranger if they had a steel toe option. But because they do not, I would hazard to guess that almost none of them are, because you would not be allowed on a construction site.

@@markusalsbjer2779 well, for one. Redwing soles rub down much quiker than thorogoods. Thorogoods are known to be much more comfortable out of the box and they are tripple stitched compared to the single stitch they use on redwings most of the time. I have owned both the Red Wing Mocs 8890, and Danner Bull Run (along with Thorogoods), but I will comment on the RW and Danners. First, this a really well done assessment of both boots. I've had my 8890s's for 10 years, 3 resoles, and the stitching started failing and water got into the boot very easily... I had to retire them. I replaced them with the Bull Runs, and immediately, they felt better on my foot and the leather was softer, more cushion. The arch support was a plus along with the shank. I prefer the "look" of the 8890s, but I'm just as happy with the Bull Run's after months of wear. Overall, the 8890s are a "better boot" but honestly, I got my Bull Run's for $160 and they're more comfortable and feel just as sturdy. Plus, I'm starting to like the patina they're developing and I don't miss my 8890s. With the price difference, comfort, and shank/arch support, the Bull Run's are a better buy and win (in my opinion). However, I keep looking at sales for another pair of RW's, so I guess a part of me feel some loyalty to RW (I've own many pairs of them over the years). However, the Bull Runs win the moc toe contest.

I always choose Red Wing....... Especially since I have an inside connection,that gets me my Red Wings and Irish Setters,for half price. They really do make great boots!!!

Hey Jim do you have the $70 insoles? I got them in my setters and they are sweet man.

How does the dancer's sole compare to the doc Martin's sole? I'm looking for a decent looking boot with a softer sole that is more like a doc martin.

I have the lace to toe Bull Runs in 8". I had zero break in. Mine are a dark brown leather.

Do they run large?

Red wing look worlds nicer... super narrow, especially in the toe, and the heel slips too much.

Hi Danner

Danner is crap! Ive had 5 pairs of various models and each one Ive gotten rid of. I have these Danner mocs and they are no exception to the crap they produce. The counter has a plastic inlay. This pretty much feels like its severing your achilles tendon with every step. Also, the toe heigh is minimal. Unless you have toes that look like they have been run over by a truck to flatten them out, these wont work for you. The top of your nail will get pounded in with every step. After 4-5 hours your feet will feel like hammered dog shit. Go with the Red Wings. I have these too and they are far better in comparison. BUT... if you want to do it right I have 3 words for you. White's, Nick's, Wesco!

I own both of these boots and agree with your take on them. My Danners were $70 or so cheaper than my Red Wings and I think it shows. The Danners just don't feel as serious of a boot as my Red Wings do. It's a subtle thing, and just my opinion, but the Danners tend towards the casual boot side of things, whereas the Red Wings tend towards the work boot side. The Red Wings just feel like a higher quality product to me.

Haha 'serious' is a great word for it, Alistair! Danners are fine and the fact that they're lighter and more sneakery is a big part of the appeal for a lot of people. They're just a bit less booty.
@Alistair_Spence4 жыл бұрын
@@Stridewise yes, well put. I'm glad I have the Danners, as I think they are more appropriate for certain (more casual) situations, and it's also just interesting to compare the two. Bottom line though, my Red Wings just seem to get better with age in a way that the Danners do not. The quality of the leather, and the construction method that RW uses seems to add up to a boot that ends up being like an old friend. I don't get that from the Danners, they just don't have the guts that the Red Wings do. Maybe that's just me though.
