My Family is originally from Red Wing, MN. My Grandparents were the first residents to live year round on the rugged majestic bluffs overlooking the mighty Mississippi in Wacouta (between R.W. & Frontinac). For years they were locally known for their matched pairs of beautiful Irish Setters. They always named them Mike & Collean. In 1952 "The Shoe" (as the locals called it) needed an artist's model for their new hunting boot line. Mike (#3) was ideal. The rest is history.... Red Wings forever!!!

@@JWitt30I know this is super late but I transitioned from some 6-7 year old Ariat’s to Ashby’s and man… World of difference. Great video. These where not on my radar until I was almost about to leave the store and found out that this moc boot is actually made by redwing. I don’t know if it’s just me but I did not feel good buying a copy of the moc boot made by another company that was not redwing. It felt like they were stealing a design not theirs. But today I wore them and so far so good. Glad I bought them and probably one day still buy the redwing’s. God bless to all.

my red wing boots are Irish setter but I still just call them red wing boots as it says red wing on it. Any way, when I bought them in 2019 I had never heard of the brand at all and people were saying they were great and made in the USA so I bought the cheapest boots I could find directly from red wing and it turned out to be the Irish setter. But I like them. I like how they are water proof, I like how they are holding up even after this long and a con and a pro is they are very warm so I typically just wear them in the winter or on cold days.

Today, I bought the Irish Setters and the custom insole that the sales associate suggested. They scanned my foot for shape and had me walk on a pressure pad so they could tell what size was the perfect fit. I only tried on one other pair of their work shoes and ended up with a 10.5 wide, and the fit is great. I'm breaking them in now and hope they will serve me well at my new job. Great comparison.

Irish Setter wingshooters i bought literally 5 years ago and put through hell and back are still waterproof and unbroken. The souls are worn down. but all the stiching and leather is as it was when bought. The most comfortable boot ive ever been stepped in, like putting your foot into a hug from a matress. Another negative of the Irish Setter (and all membrane boots) is that the membrane can get punctured by bits of grit. And if water gets inside, via a puncture or because water splashed over the top of the boot, your feet sit in a puddle as the only way the water gets out is by a very slow evaporation process that is made much worse if the outer leather is wet. I have had several membrane boots that got soaked inside take weeks to dry out even while unworn, and develop some pretty terrible odours in the lining that were very difficult to get rid off.

I have owed 3 pairs of Irish red and one pair of the red wings. I am a trade guy and favor red wings over the Irish red. The both have pro and cons. Irish red have a better sole. The big issue with them is the stitch by the safety toe always comes apart and cus they are water proof they are super hot in the summer. Red wings are more comfortable especially in the heal area do to the extra leather at the heal. I live in Colorado and the boots not being water proof does not matter to me. Thick leather is good enough.

Bought these Irish Setters. I also picked up those superfeet GREEN insoles. I wear the 11 1/2. Superfeet insoles 11.5 match exactly the pre existing insoles the Irish Setters are sold with. No need to modify the insoles. Look for the letter F if you wear 11.5. I have a somewhat thin foot. I inserted the green insoles and put the stock insoles on top. Shoe fits me perfect now. Just make sure you get the right color of insole for your specific arch type. UPDATE!! Ok so I purchased a pair of Irish Setters steel toe for $225. I deliver and install appliances. We have 15 to 20 stops a day. 30 appliances give or take. FELL APART JUST OVER 6 MONTHS! :( Any recommendations for a comfortable, durable steel toe for heavy delivery and install?

I had a pair of Irish Setter Crosby's and unfortunately had to get rid of them because they are dangerous to wear in the snow. The soles seem to have zero grip in the snow, especially once it is below -10c here. I picked up some Keens, which are meh so far, and am struggling to find comfortable insoles for those boots. I have a V shaped foot and a tall ridge so it can be hard to find something that fits well. Bit of a struggle still.

As a structural Ironworker in Manhattan, the made-in-usa 8" Moc Toe was the gold standard in safety, durability and protection. Number one, you DON'T want a steel/composite toe if ypu're working with steel, because if a beam falls on your foot, the steel or composite toe is going to cut your toes clean off. You're much better off having them smashed- smashed toes can heal, severed toes, not so much. Number 2, those bullshit Irish Setter boots won't last one job. Why pay $200 for garbage trash when you can get the real thing for slightly more, which, because of the Goodyear welt, you can get resoled over and over again?!? As an actual construction person, who is skilled and paid a 6 figure plus wage because of that skill, we don't play that Irish Setter crap. It's unsafe, unreliable, and basically a poor tool. So, this video ignores the workers for whom these boots, with these soles, were originally made.
@jamesdean49722 жыл бұрын
I am in trade school for welding. From what I’ve heard the soles of the 10875’s declined in durability drastically in mid 2000’s. I own both 875 and 10875 as well as 866 (pretty much their classic models for iron/roughnecking/ag) and I love all three. I also own danner 8 inch moc steel toe which are made in USA not as comfortable but the sole lasts longer

I disagree to an extent while yes Irish setter does have composite toe and waterproof they aren’t really designed for longevity of hard labor. The leather is a cheaper material and the outsole is made of mostly foam with a little rubber sole that wears out quickly. For me they are mainly a hunting boot with extras to appeal to blue collar workers. If I want those extra features I would just choose some thorogoods but I still prefer original heritage red wings versus overseas hunting boots

Get a pair of Carolina or Thorogood moc toes, much better leather and Made here in the USA. thorogood prices have gone up some lately but the Carolinas should still be about the same price as the Irish setters.
