A stone wall with real stones! Kind of nice to stray from the "draw lines in foamboard" default technique, and quicker is nice too! Great texture.

Best part was I finally found a use for those stones which have been sitting on a shelf for 5 years. Thanks for watching!

looks great. I've seen this done with "tongue depressor" craft sticks and pebbles/stone chippings. Only the guy that made those also used wall filler/caulking to create a mortar effect between the stones. His was for a WW II war game
@RedBeardBaron7 жыл бұрын
Caulk would be great, it would make the walls incredibly durably...hmm...might need to make some more walls sooner than later.

Easy the best stone wall build I've seen.

Using actual stones gives it a really realistic look that I like. Also, you should try the method where you basically make a cast and fill it with pebbles and glue if you haven't already.

I agree, real stones give an effect that cannot be duplicated. I have seen Terrain Tutors nifty lego mold for making walls, haven't tried it myself yet...might have to give it a go one of these days.

Great videos. I may have found an alternative to mica flakes. They are not as flat, but i was able to find 1/8" to 1/4" slate gravel on Amazon. I think it will emulate the effect you've created very well.

Was just thinking as you was building that i wasn't in the like or in the like group. But as has been the case many time over with many crafters that paint makes the man and the walls look great. I was turned 180 degrees in the end.

Thanks! I appreciate that. I am amazed how terrain can look rather awful until the last few steps and then it really comes together.

Crushed sea shells worked well for me in place of the mica stones...I had difficulties finding the stones themselves around these parts
@RedBeardBaron7 жыл бұрын
That would be great substitute, I know finding these rocks has been difficult for some. Thanks!

Very cool! I think this technique could work well for bigger stuff as well, stone houses, churches, etc. all the way up to full castle walls!

+Wisco Horndog Tabletop Thanks! I've used this technique in conjunction with sparkle as mortar between the rocks and I think it looks even better.

Checking in on this idea. How well do the mica flakes hold up over time?

What would you recommend for 10mm? Obviously shorter foam board. Stones? Maybe kitty litter?

I might use those small aquarium rocks, think they might be around the right size

Great video and technique! Any suggested materials for 15mm scale stone walls?
@RedBeardBaron7 жыл бұрын
I have seen in hobby shops, like michaels, in the floral section they have the same flat rocks but much smaller. Otherwise you could use aquarium gravel for a pretty decent effect. Thanks for watching!

Hello Mr Beard Guy. Any chance you have a link to the stones or mica that you used. I cannot find anything like what you have used online. Thanks!

I have seen them recently in floral sections of hobby shops and craft stores, like Michaels in the states.

I just found your videos just a week ago and really enjoy your tutorials. I see you use the tile material with the sticky back...how do you resolve the sticky backing? Thanks.

+redmist1122 Welcome to the channel! I stick them in baking soda and then put a layer of pva over it to seal it.

Okay, will give that a shot. I just saw your other video last night from earlier in the year with you using the tile material. I had a hell of a time with the sticky side when I was making gravel roads several months ago. I used the sticky side as oppose the other side. I figure the sticky side would lock in the gravel/ballast...nope! But now I know what you do, will give them a shot. I went to a the big box store to get the 3' strips for about a buck after mil discount. Finally, I really enjoy your videos for the wargamer. You got me hooked!
