Karl is smart enough to be able to comment on something using his own words. It might come across as idiotic or daft, but it's relatively coherent and well thought out, something most idiots aren't capable of. He's also just said some absolute corker stuff over the years, which makes him genuinely likeable. He is a little Englander, he doesn't know a whole lot about everything, but that's not a bad thing.

Karl once said something about a Chinese proverb about the toad in the well seeing only a limited view of the world. This is the same for Karl as is the same for many people which is what makes him endearing, relatable and funny. He is not an idiot, he just hasn't had the opportunities that more privileged or just lucky people have had when it comes to comes to demonstrating a breadth of knowledge. But breadth of knowledge doesn't always translate to depth of knowledge and at least karl has shown he has the capacity for the later in his ability to convey a truth about something a lot of people miss or can't articulate.

He seems to be a bit on the spectrum., but he is intelligent. I did appreciate his honesty, namely when he went to stinky India. He didn't gush "oh, it's so great, the people, the attractions, etc," he basically said it was a miserable, overrated destination.

I've always said that. My brother and I argue about it from time to time. I'm not taken in by it in the least- to be so consistently ignorant and funny with it requires not only an appreciation for how things are but also how those things are normally perceived. It's merely a kind of jokey persona- one I play myself now and again. Today- at the restaurant for instance I asked the missus why the catch of the day is always fish- don't they have to catch the other stuff? Of course, I'm deliberately being daft to amuse/ mildly annoy her. Both are equally satisfactory outcomes for me. "I like this restaurant."- I told her. "Take the ice in our drinks here..." I said, "...not of that frozen stuff you get in some places..." Pathetic really- but it's all just a bit of fun. It's just playing the fool. Karl doesn't take himself too seriously and doesn't mind when people roll their eyes or jeer or laugh at him. It's only the dipshits who don't appreciate what's going on who would react that way, so why should he care? I mean- if you find that hard to swallow, you only need to look at the jobs he's had to appreciate what a clever fellow he really is. In short, if you laugh at Karl Pilkington- the joke is very much on you, I'm afraid. Karl Pilkington is no one's fool- or no one who really knows what's what.
