And then there was the bit about Fug Soap. If you've never heard Redd Foxx from the '50s and '60s, you should really do some remedial work.

Never watched a Redd Foxx interview before. Glad I selected this one. Newfound respect for this comedic genius.

He seems so much more humble in his younger days. You could even see that as sanford and son progressed. By the last season he seemed like he was just doing it for a check

Same with Demond Wilson. After 3 or 4 seasons his acting was pretty lame.

@@billking1751 I always say the show "jumped the shark" when Redd came back from his contract holdout after season 3. The writing was not up to the standard it had been. Right now I just looked up the list of Sanford and Son's episodes and the writers changed big time after season 3. Yes Demond Wilson's Lamont was no longer the angry son he had been before. He was now too laid back.

I thought by season 4 is when the show "jumped the shark." By then the episodes had become too stupid, for me to take seriously enough to enjoy to even for the a good laugh. It's also a time when quite a few people began to also quit watching the show, my parents for one, who used to love the show up to about season 3. They like myself, and many people out there, began to stop taking any of it seriously, unlike a show like say, "All In The Family," which kept its edge by delivering real life situations into still a comedy show. Sandford, And Son, didn't do that, it was just silly jokes, that were old, stale, and flat, unrealistic in any sort of way, and in a style told over and over again. Even the ratings proved that BY SEASON 4 (I used to check the ratings on shows back then, when they used list them). And by season 4, Lamont's neutering had become fully completed, as well. Demond was just there for the check. He no longer had a real purpose for being on that show at that point, at least that's how i took it. @@beaujac311

@@billking1751 I may be wrong but I thought at that time Demond was battling drug addiction. He was way to mellow and laid back, hiding behind those shades and that Jheri curl.

@@beaujac311 It's funny how some of you recognized Demond's mannerisms during that time. I thought it was only me who realized what was going on behind the scenes and during the scenes! Yeah it's well documented why Demond was " acting" that way.

This is amazing! I’ve never seen a proper Redd Foxx interview pre 1980s. Please upload anymore of Redd Foxx when you can. Did you ever have an interview with him and his wife Betty? I think it’s from the footage of ‘Jerry Visits’?

All I've known about Redd Fox was his comedy. And mostly just his character on Sanford & Son. It's interesting how the character he played influenced who I thought he was. But I was a much younger person back then. This is a fantastic video interview, and I genuinely appreciate that it was made available to see. An articulate and sensible man. Thank you for sharing.

Hands up or down Red Foxx was the top of the hill. So many entertainers borrowed his lines, his style and wit to no end. As to no education Red should have just looked around and seen just how well spoken he was. He did every circuit of comedy you can imagine. His answers being baited by the interviewer were from the heart and to the point. This was a proud man who knew his craft well enough to teach a "Master of Masters Class". Thank you Red Foxx.
