The fact that he doesn't use a slide but gets slide tones is really amazing

I saw Redd with Debbie Cashdollar and he blew me away. The man is magic with a guitar, getting all his sound with his hands, makes him one and only.

Fabulous and understated Tele playing. Looks so simple (not!) but it's the great 'feel' that Redd has inside and in his hands. One of my favourite Tele players and for me he's up there with some of the best. Thank you for this video....Redd - many thanks for inspiring me!Jeff Jeffery

Yes there are faster pickers out there - Johnny Hiland, Daniel Donato, Brent Mason, etc, etc, but Redd has a style all his own. And he plays with a sense of humor. Super nice guy too.

FUCK speed all to HELL. The same thing goes for cars. The Dodge Demon is the fastest American car (for the moment). On the other hand, it is mass produced, and has absolutely NO VIBE. Stop comparing players!!!! It's entirely subjective shit, and this video is about Redd, not the others. Jesus Jumped Up Christ, guys...

This is great but in answer to the original poster of this fine video I must mention Jim Campilongo and Bill Kirchen and Kenny Vaughan who are right up there with Redd. This is not to slight Redd in the least because I love his playing but there are others out there also carrying the Tele torch and doing a fine job of it. Oh yeah and John Jorgenson, Jerry Donahue, Will Ray, Brent Mason, Brad Paisley...... There's hope yet!

Yes! Lots of great Tele players. The Tele is so odd. Rather a primitive beast--yet the great guitarists conjure amazing tones from it.

. Greg Koch is likely the best of the best Telemasters at this time. Still, not even Koch has the résumé of Volkaert... Roy Nichols played guitar for Merle Haggard and The Stangers. Nichols died in 2001. Redd Volkaert took his place and played in The Stangers until Merle died in 2016. Your welcome.

Nope.
@Plekteret048 жыл бұрын
He dont use any stringbender. He twist/bend the guitar with his strong hands.
@paullevine18133 жыл бұрын
B Benders have the button behind the bridge for the B string to attach to , this is not a b Bender & from the rest of the comments regarding yours they are correct ,it's just Red & his ability to push the neck & power that Tele into getting a close sound to an actual bender . Plus the giveaway is you see no down pull to engage the bender . This is all Red & those magic hands.

Are those Bill Lawrence L-250s in that Tele?
@iansnyder2745 жыл бұрын
No they are early Bardens before the double blades....he talks about them in his truetone lounge interview with zach childs....I actually had one early bridge single blade which was, I was told was a prototype. It was INCREDIBLE sounding. nothing like the later double blades. Much rounder and smooth, but totally vintage too with BALLS....I got it from Steve Crisp, who was the guitar tech at Ray Hennig's Heart of Texas as well as Rob Hackers Custom Shop back in Austin in 93 or 94. I traded a 58 LP Junior for a 66' tele with that pickup...Supposedly Joel Hamilton, an amazing player from Mississippi, had gotten it from Danny Gatton and traded it to Steve Crisp....Unfortunately I traded back with him to get my Junior and gave him back the pickup. I wish I had it. But, man it was one of , if not the best bridge pickup I ever heard and I heard a lot of flatpole examples.

Has been a fan since I bought his first CD TELEWACKER . This tune is a guitar classic. Is best known from THE SHADOWS and Amos Garret. Two different style of playing among others. But Reed Volkaert has his own twangy style of playing the guitar. I like his cord voicings in hid playing. Not too many guitarist has this in their vocabullary.
