Restoration of Brad Pitt's Citizen "Bullhead" watch from "Once upon a time in Hollywood"

This time I´m restoring a Citizen Bullhead Chronograph.
The watch become famous as Cliff Booth (played by Brad Pitt) worn it in the movie "Once upon a time in Hollywood"
This watch is powered by the Citizen 8110A chronograph movement.
The watch is in a really bad condition. The gold-plated case and the painted bezel is heavily damaged, the glass is scratched, the movement stops repeatedly and the bracelet is not original and broken.
I need to get rid of the old gold-plating and the black paint, i´m using my new sandblaster for this job.
After sanding and polishing the case, it´s ready for a new gold-plating. The bezel gets a new painting after polishing.
I need to replace the glass and the crown. Crown and chronograph-pushers were gold-plated originally but Cliff is wearing it with silver colored crown and pushers.
So I´m just polishing the pushers and waive the gold-plating.
The hands can be polished but I need to re-paint the chronograph hands with a nice looking "orange".
The dial is hopeless. I can´t restore that one so I need to use my little time machine again.
After everything is cleaned, polished, re-plated and re-painted, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+0 seconds per day) again.

Wow! This is amazing!! 🤩 As a Japanese who loves mechanical watches and who has gotten serviced by our local Citizen Japan craftsmen, seeing you polish up an entire case and not replacing it by “Time Machine” 😆, it’s mind blowing! I know Citizen only replaces an entire case (especially anything plated one). I don’t know if you have worked on a full titanium Citizen solar powered watches but I’ve recently sent one of my Citizen titanium watches to Citizen with a rose gold plated titanium case (titanium base). They only replace a case, and the case itself costs 15,000 yen+ to replace it. 😅 Overhaul service isn’t too bad though ¥18,000. Lol. Imagine the case with a glass cover costs almost the same as fully getting serviced on a watch. 😅 I’m still contemplating if I should get the case replaced. Haha Love your show btw, amazing!

SAND BLASTING: Clearly one of the most satisfying things someone with OCD can ever do. I got to work in a machine shop when I was younger and the sand blaster was always my favorite tool.

I have an 8110 Bullhead in natural silver finish that my wife bought for me when we got married (almost 39 years ago). She got it from the clearance section at the Kadena Air Base exchange. Love the watch. You have inspired me to take it in for service as it is running a bit slow. And it is more than I would want to try myself.

I have one of these, which a friend gave my father in 1978, after a trip to Japan. Never worked perfectly. One day, maybe he'll find someone to restore his dignity, like this one. At least it gave me hope watching this video

Jesus Christ…. I have one of these citizen bullhead watches with the 8110A caliber (although it has an octagonal case), and let me tell you, these movements are a PAIN IN THE ASS to work with. I myself can service “normal” handwinding and automatic movements without complications, but this chronographs are out of the question, because not only they are full of weird springs and other crap, but they’re also packed with low-durability parts. In fact by looking at it it’s obvious that Citizen didn’t expect for these movements to be serviced, which is why they used to “repair them” by simply replacing the movements inside (a story shared with the Seiko 6139 caliber, used in the Pogue and Seiko bullhead chronographs). It’s fantastic to see how you restore this, especially considering how much watchmakers hate working on them (I’m still looking for someone to service mine 😅), and as everything this channel does, it’s just amazing!

I don't have much knowledge of the world of watches and until recently, I haven't been a fan of them either. My dad just gave me a watch that my grandfather never got to wear because he died. I like the way it looks and I wear it everywhere. Seeing this video makes me appreciate watches in general. There are so many moving parts and the time that goes into just assembling it is awesome. Perfect timing - I have one of these with a silver dial and steel case, the chrono dial hands do not engage properly and the day adjuster seldom works. Now I can see how all the bits fit together :-)

Don't do it if you don't have a lot of experience with restoring watches. The chronograph mech is a bit tricky and the flyback needs a lot of grease in the right places to work smoothly.

Awesome skills, never knew so many tiny intricate parts made up something to measure a thing that we can't even see. Time. So cathartic to 'watch' and not only see you repair and replace parts but the tools and machinery that you use are also fascinating to behold. This uses Citizen's patented stacked wheel selector, which they developed as a simpler-to-manufacture alternative to the column wheel. It uses a pair of one way toothed gear wheels riveted together rather than a single-piece machined wheel. Frederique Constant's new manufacture chronograph movement uses a similar system but with a star shaped wheels which provide an improvement to smoothness of operation.
