Thanks for the comparisons here guys. I’ve been sitting on the fence, trying to talk myself into (and out of) buying a Q2M. Today I took the plunge and ordered one. My first venture into Leica (currently a Sony shooter) and this camera ticks all the boxes as a second (or should I say an alternative) body for me. I just hope it’s not too phenomenal and that it doesn’t see me sell all my current gear for an M10 (or M11 if released soon)!

@@Domestikos88 I’m finding the Q2M to be a superb camera. Those greyscales are truly amazing and the low light capability is outstanding. The compact size makes it easy to carry. It compliments my Sony as a secondary and somewhat specialised camera.

I know this video has been out for a while but I just watched it for the first time and enjoyed it. I have to comment on the matter of cropping vs. using a longer lens, though: the only thing that determines perspective is the camera position relative to the subject. Using a wider lens and cropping gives you exactly the same compression effect as using a longer lens. The difference, obviously, comes from the loss in quality from losing pixels.

I'm gonna watch it again! it was that good! BTW Anybody here use Circular Filters on their Q2 USING the OEM Hood? I hear LIMS is a good alternative. Changing out filters using the OEM Hood is a PITA.

Hoage LH - LQ from amazon for £30 fits on the lens like the original. no more stuck fingers trying to adjust Polarisers etc. Thorston Van Overgaard's version is is better material but £145 approx.

I love my Q2 to death but I have one horrible problem and wonder if anyone has an alternative soluion. I need a Grip extension so obtained one as resommended for the camera and it is the perfect size. However it has a really annoying feature. When screwed into the camera base it covers the battery chamber. Every time on a shoot I need to change the battery I have to undo the grip and have it lying around while I change over batteries. Then I have to pick it up, hoping no grit or ggrass has got onto it,and screw it back on. This is a real weakness. Has anyone found a grip extension for the Q2 and Q2M that attaches without covering the battery chamber ?

New Q2M user questions: 1. How to eliminate all the extraneous indicators all around the frame in the viewfinder to see only the image? 2. What, if anything do you recommend to apply during Import? In a few hours testing I find nothing I feel I need to do to all Q2M images and the Built-In Lens Correction Profile in LR

1. Just press the central button on the right hand side of the camers 2. I have found the same when I import into lightroom not much adjustments needed unless you follow Davids advice and underexpose 1ev so as to preserve highlights

The optical (OIS) stabilization in the Q2 is decent,. But the real benefit of the Q2M is that it allows you to use much faster shutter speeds due to such clean high ISO performance. And as good as IS might be, there is simply no substitute for shutter speed.

Stupid question - can you use the viso flex on the Q2? I know it would be redundant but I think being able to use that to capture images on the Q2 would be great!

No, you can't use the Visoflex EVF on the Q2 or Q2M as there is electronic connection in the hot shoe. Also, the built-in OLED EVF in the Q2 and Q2M offers a superior viewing experience. Much higher resolution, brighter, more accurate tonal rendering and higher refresh rate.

I was relieved to hear the m10m is still the king for B&W image quality. I just got one and buyer’s remorse was staring to creep in. The Leica Q cameras are all fantastic.

Me too. I was quite frustrated at all the platitudes considering I bought a m10 m and a 28 mm Summilux just a month ago. I have loved using it. And frankly, it's been great to learn how to use manual mode to its max. But even so, the Q2 monochrom discussion was driving me a bit mad.

@@seandee the sensor has been built from the ground up, thus allowing the lens and sensor to work together simultaneously. I’m not saying the M10 M is not great it is but the BW from the Q2 M is far superior, if you slapped on a Leica noctilux on the M10 it might be equal to it.

@@splootan That's what they mentioned on the show. But I'd want to see the difference, really. Anyway, for me it was just a temporary frustration. There's no way I'd move to a Q2 because to me the m10 m already does a spectacular job. I am happy you're answering this post, but the specifics would be where you'd have a discussion. Hence, if you said, "f stops" or "focus" or "stabilisation" or "video", then it might be a specific to talk about. Just "it's better" is a good idea, and probably true, but it may not help when it comes to specifics.

Moving from the Q to Q2-M is my ambition, and I wondered if it’s true that moving up to 47 megapixels on the Q2-M will mean it’s more difficult to obtain critical sharpness because of the increased detail and resolution...in other words do you have to be even more careful to achieve perfect focus because of all that increase in resolution and details...? Loved the show and saving up to get th Q3-M

So, focus isn't the issue. The camera and lens combo does a fantastic job of nailing critical focus. Rather, the issue comes down to broader technique, keeping sway and motion to a minimum. Here, we've found notching up a little on minimum shutter speed helps a lot. And with the massive jump in ISO performance, keeping up a faster shutter speed is not an issue.

That is correct. Apart from the styling of the paint finish, leatherette covering and color of the engravings, the Q2 and Q2M share identical physical dimensions. A fitted half case for the Q2 will fit the Q2M.

Why can’t Leica add a bulb setting and longer shutter speed settings via a firmware update?

What would you set your camera at in relatively dark conditions to avoid too much grain? At 12500 iso, f8, 1/125 can be a struggle in a restaurant. I’ve found that if I reveal the shadows, I get a grainy effect.

Open up your aperture to full to reduce ISO.

A photographer in Spain or Portugal shoots in Black and white and he turns the picture into a silver oxide photograph. Can you do a camera talk about the steps needed to use the Leica Q2M and produce silver oxide pictures similar to his?

Interesting point. And don't forget that the Q2M has a leaf shutter versus the M10M which has a vertical focal plane shutter. But.... I'd also argue that the M's more substantial mass provides some additional stability when shooting at slower shutter speeds.

I love my Q but I was always a bit annoyed about distorted edges... still happening?

Could be the revised microlens structure on the sensor, but the edges of the frame look great on the Q2M.

@@RedDotForum the look sharp and good but to my opinion there’s an artificial distortion (or correction) happening there, no way it happens with a 28mm lens on M... that’s my guess but don’t have a 28mm to test 😅

Another Question - I regularly use a 16mm and 35mm prime on my xpro3 aka the poor mans Leica. Do you think the 28mm on the Q2 would be a great compromise for those focal length? I zoom with my feet often and I think it will be more than fine... I also think that the 28mm on the Q2 is far superior than both the 16mm and 35mm fuji lenses. You thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

I think your talking different things here,Fuji vs Leica is orange vs Apple,they have nothing in common in handing,operating,style and functional.So Fuji is not poor man’s Leica. First,we are talking two times sensor size,almost two times resolutions.this is cliche,bigger sensor is better Second is Leica q lens is superb.I could not think any Fuji 28 equivalent is even can come close. Q is not a system camera,it is a compact camera,there are no compromises,it targeted at a specific audience.

@@xiayu6665 I ended up getting an M10 and a 21mm Elmrit also picked up a 50mm from TTartisan and a 35mm (to see which focal length that I actually wanted to invest in natively). I regret nothing. I'll get a q2 as my second body. I enjoyed fuji and don't really have anything bad to say about the gear... I'll be using Leica for the foreseeable future.

Another way to look at it, you buy a Summilux 28mm 1.7 lens and get a free monochrome camera ;-) I am a fan of FF 24 Mp (chose my Q-P over the 48MP Q2, where money was no problem) cause I think that is the best combi. And I would even buy that camera if it was only 12 MP camera (think about that when you have time to kill hehehe ) !!! 24 MP will give you leverage enough to print big and if you are in need to alter so much in post, you better off learning how to shoot better in SOOC ;-) Love the Q for all the reason your mentioned and I can advice everybody, get a (maybe used) Q as a carry on camera

I would have thought if Leica wanted to put a 24MP sensor in the monochrome they would have done it, must have their reasons, also they can't please everyone. I have 12, 24, 42.5 and the Q2 47mp sensors on my various cameras and each is fine for the camera its in. I'm sure it's all done for a purpose.

@@patrickhao8473 Image quality on the Monochrom is much, much finer. Higher resolution, less noise, increased lower-light options. Color digicams are really a kludge.

The Q2 and Q2 Monochrom have a fixed 28mm lens. It is not interchangeable.

Sent my Oberwerth Harry and Sally and William back (bought both at same time) as I found the shoulder pad a Terrible design fault. It doesn’t glide along the strap. Exchanged a few emails with Oberwerth design team and the said they are to update it soon. Apart from that, beautiful bag. I alternatively purchase a Billingham which you can add a separate shoulder pad that in really comfortable and it also glides up and down the strap.

I been along time Sony shooter but just picked up a q2. Even though I love the q2 the Sony is so much quicker, better focus and so much easier to use.. two things that drive me nuts with the q2. Auto focus, does not work well.. never focuses on what I want it to. The eye auto focus on the Sony is like a cheat mode. Also another things that drives me nuts is the auto view finder/back screen. If I want to take a quick shot of something it always thinks my eye is up on the view finder not allowing the back screen to show. This use to happen all the time on my a7rii but Sony did something to update the riii model and it works flawlessly.
