Glad Kyle mentioned the behavior of some Orthobros and Orthodox people in general. If someone is trying to learn what the true path is, we shouldn't laugh at them and dismiss them, even if they are wrong. RZ is still young (21), he definitely has some problems with pride (which he admits with his X behavior), and is also easily hurt as a young man with sudden massive following, probably thinking God is using him to change the world and "restore the Protestant church"

I really hope Zoomers Bitterness towards Orthodoxy will just be a passing phase, that he will turn away from. A big part of the bitterness seems to me that Zoomer started and invested a ton of time and energy into project Reconquista, his mission to somehow save the mainline protestant churches. And when he found out about Orthodoxy initially saw it as a possible ally in his cause, however soon realized that the idea of the existence of a church in no need of reform and perfectly preserved since the beginning , makes his entire project completely pointless. Strengthening this blow were many of his followers realizing this also and becoming Orthodox, no longer seeing the point in spending months to years to restoring churches that even in their original forms are built on faulty presuppositions that would just lead to the mess we have today all over again. Lets pray that Zoomer stops wasting his time patching holes in a house built on sand, and embraces a much more fulfilling purpose in the One True Church (Holy Orthodoxy). Also Great Video as always Kyle, God Bless!☦🙏

If RZ is upset about the 'Ortho-bros', he's looking too much at the earth and not enough at Christ. People will fail us. And thats ok! We are all sinners. Christ wont. And thats why we are or become Orthodox. The same Jesus who promises to be with me until the end of the age is the same Jesus that promises His Church shall not be defeated by Satan. 38:40 I'd like to add something as a Macedonian Orthodox. I like the claim "Modern science came from the western church." It completely ignores what the brothers Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius did (forgive me if i spelled their names wrong in English). They basically taught every single slav how to read and write and converted them to Holy Orthodoxy. What happened next was their students St. Clement and St. Naum continued to do their works PLUS advanced the understanding of science for the Slavic peoples. And this is just one example of many!

Hi, братле in Christ! Bulgarian Orthodox here, I completely agree with you! Redeemed Zoomer is from my experience a pretty good channel. It is aimed at zoomer young and young adult Christians, who need help growing in faith, and in that aspect, RZ's videos are usually really good. The problem is, RZ grew up in the west and naturally isn't as well versed in Orthodoxy. Because of this, he often relies on stereotypes and strawmans Orthodoxy (sadly many Orthodox in this comment section do that to him, which I find very sad, because we are essentially falling into the same sin that he does to us), which means that his videos on Orthodoxy are often misinformed. Onto your original comment, the one thing that annoyed me in a video of his, is RZ completely misinterpreted the EvE distinction of Orthodoxy and our view of research. The Catholic Church has no EvE distinction, meaning they believe the essences are the same as the energies, which makes the Catholics likelier to engage in research. Where the problem comes is that because they don't have that distinction and fail to realise God presents to us his essences and not his energies, the Catholics might clash with the science they develop. Orthodoxy however has the EvE distinction, and it is more clear to us that God is separate from His energies and the Creation. Partially because of this, the Enlightenment clashed more harshly in the west (although many Scientists were still Christian/Catholic regardless), and never did so in the East, especially Russia which was free at the time. Meanwhile, in the Balkans, we were under Ottoman occupation. Churches were the only source of culture and knowledge for the population at the time of Ottoman assimilation. That's why amongst most sane Christians here, science has never been opposed to faith, because whilst it was questioned in the west due to Enlightenment clashing with the church and failure of lack of EvE distinction, in the Balkans, the Church was the source of knowledge that had enlightened us to begin with, and although if you're not interested in science, EvE distinction might not motivate you to research like lack of it did to Catholics, but it would explain a lot that lack of it caused clashes in the west. In fact, not only did our church never get divided from research, the divide was never there! In the Orthodox world, many were undereducated and illiterate, until St St Cyril and Methodius and the Orthodox Church begun to spread. Especially so in Bulgaria (Macedonia included, which was Bulgaria at the time), which was in a very bad situation at the start of the reign of Knyaz Boris of Bulgaria, with famine, war, and division. When Knyaz Boris welcomed the five Holy students of St St Cyril and Methodius (St Climent, St Naom, etc), after their exile from Moravia and return to Bulgaria, he did so with open arms, and opened two schools for them, one in Ohrid and one in Veliki Preslav, where he'd commission the standardisation of the language and creation of the Cyrillic script, which was developed by the Five Holy Students most likely at Preslav. The Orthodox Church is what made the Slavic peoples literate! The division between faith and science not only didn't happen in the east... it never existed! Be blessed, брат! ☦✝️

Yes! Just because he's wrong, doesn't mean which should mock or strawman RZ. Instead, teach RZ the truth and show where he was wrong! RZ is a sane Christian and very helpful for young Christians. Because he grew up in the west, he is less knowledgeable about Orthodoxy and is prone to strawmanning us. A simple chat or mature debate over Teams/Discord is enough to solve the differences. For example, I remember in one video, RZ heavily misinterpreted Orthodox EvE distinction and attitude on research, relying too much on the "mystery" stereotype. That could easily be solved by just conversing with RZ. There is no thing I hate more than baseless assumptions and strawmanning, which RZ has done to us fair enough, but sadly many Orthodox online, including in this YT section have done to RZ. Like, no. Just discern what is right from wrong, actually do research, and teach him the truth.

Hello, I am an Eastern Orthodox here, who is/was (used to watch him quite a bit when I needed his videos, though not as much nowadays) a Redeemed Zoomer viewer. I wanted to say, that generally RZ is a pretty good creator. His audience is younger and young adult Christians who need a fellow brother in Christ to help them grow in faith. RZ's zoomer video orientation, for example having videos in easy-to-understand for younger audience language and building a community via building churches in Minecraft, is very useful for many in that age range. In addition, his videos aimed at that audience are generally really helpful, aiding many young Christians to grow in faith, in a fun and understanding way. In that sense, his videos are good and I really recommend them. The problem is, regarding details in other denominations he isn't (as) familiar with, his videos become weaker. Probably one of his weakest knowledge basis is that of Eastern Orthodoxy, where he has very basic knowledge on our denomination, and relies a lot on assumptions and sometimes even stereotypes. Now I am not very surprised, he is gen z western Christian, naturally he wouldn't know too much on Orthodoxy, and although it'd be best in that position to just avoid speaking about our theology, his channel is general Christian and sooner or later it becomes inevitable to mention us. Although his other videos are good, regarding the denominations he isn't as familiar with, RZ has the tendency to strawman and rely on stereotypes. What annoyed me the most is where he got the "mystery" element of Orthodoxy and completely misinterpreted our position on research via taking the complete opposite interpretation of our EvE distinction (feel free to ask me more on this if anybody wishes). Now I am a bit disappointed at his reliance on stereotypes, I am not surprised, especially I've seen many Orthodox online strawman the other denominations, especially within the toxic part of the Orthobro community. Either way, it's a bit discouraging to know that he bares inaccurate views on how our denomination functions. He also has fallen into other problems us zoomers commonly in, such as pridefulness. Including on his KZbin channel, but it isn't as bad until I saw his Instagram, which is more meme based, and pridefulness is easy to fall in. Outside of this, his video are generally okay, and I'd even recommend some to young Orthodox Christians. Sometimes, it is important to be able to discern good from bad. People aren't black and white, people can be right and wrong about different things. When it comes to yourself, prune away your bad and unholy qualities, and develop your better qualities. As for people who are mixed, listen to what is good, and cut off what is bad. I guess you could call me an Evangelical Christian, but my father is a Pentecostal pastor, so I don’t really know what I am. I’m the demographic that RZ would appeal the most to (20 years old). I feel so lost, to tell you the truth; I was born into Christianity and grew up learning a bit about theology, but I didn’t get serious about my faith till my accident, which left me a paraplegic. My life not only wants there to be God but hinges on it. I just don’t know what to do, who to follow, what to read, or how to be a “proper” Christian. Don’t get me wrong, I go to church on Sundays, I don’t drink/smoke, I do not affirm LGBT, or try to reconcile my faith with any world things, but I want to do MORE because I feel as if I am not doing enough to justify my belief. I am very, very lost.

It really bothers me that people forget the entire point of original sin was that it was knowledge without wisdom. True knowledge of God is the fusion of knowledge (the intellect) and wisdom (the nous). They have to accept the fact the intellect can lead into error, as attempting to reason things completely beyond our natural ability to understand (intellect) rather than accepting it as a mystery and taking it on faith (mysticism) is the appropriate response. RE: the engergies/essence distinction. He's not stupid. He knows exactly what St. Gregory is saying. He just refuses to see the truth. A literal "Portrait of Dorian Grey" moment. He explained intuition vs rationalism perfectly. We are clearly apart from God (the essence) but are able to know of God (the energies). If it isn't the very dictionary definition of faith, I don't know what is.
@notsocrates95296 ай бұрын
I could see how people could view that as gatekeeping or as a push towards the other side or Left Hand Path. I agree with you but that aspect of the church and Christianity was off-putting to me for decades.
@eddardgreybeard6 ай бұрын
@@notsocrates9529 I'm not gonna lie, I faced a similar thing myself. But nobody was actually able to tell me that it was knowledge of good and evil without the wisdom to know the difference. Might require a bit of maturity to understand how we tend to justify right and wrong is demonstrative of that lack of wisdom, but it really is the theme of the entire Bible. Sin entered the world not because of the disobedience towards God's command, but because we basically knew enough to get ourselves into trouble (sin has entered the world) and everything from then on out was God preparing us to receive that wisdom.

The arrogance of removing books from the Bible is wild. The church composed the Bible and martin luther himself "takes" that authority ( of the Church an infallible one) and removes books himself.
@jonathanhamilton25046 ай бұрын
To be fair, the Lutheran Bible did contain all the books of the Bible and still does in Lutheran countries to this day. It was only when the Anglicans took it out (so that they would have less pages to print) that English speaking Protestants stopped having complete Bibles. Martin Luther's Bible technically had more books in it than the Roman Catholic Bible.

Can you please research before you write misinformation, it stains the Orthodox Church, and only proves what RZ is accusing us of doing. The Lutheran Bible keeps most of the books, and Luther only aimed to reform the Catholic Church which most Orthodox agree is flawed, but made several mistakes which lead to a new denomination.

Th Orthodox kingdoms were superior culturally than the West during the Middle ages especially Byzantium. Byzantium was the richest state during that era with highly developed trade, culture, philosophy and architecture. They preserved the knowledge of ancient philosophy. Constantinople was the largest and richest city in the Medieval period. Byzantium wad the supplier of all the stocks from the Far East to Europe. Other Orthodox kingdoms like Bulgaria and Serbia were also highly developed in terms of culture, architecture, philosophy similar to Byzantium. The reaaon why Catholicism and Protestantism is spread around the world is purely of geographical reasons and luck and not because their theology is more 'correct'. The orthodox countries were decimated by constant Asian invasions and were essentially a shield for the West. Eventually greatly weakened most were slallowed by the Ottomans. The countries that became colonial empires happen to be Catholic or Protestant but this is because of their geography this has nothing to do with religion. The discovery of the new world was because after Constantinople fell, the Ottomans closed the Silk road and the West was forced to find alternative way to Asia and this led to the discovery of the New world. It was an accident. If it was not for the Orthodox kingdoms to take all the constant invasions from Asiа, the West could not prosper. Also the reason why Eastern Europe is poorer is becuase communism did A LOT of damage and esencially sealed the division between East and West and not becuse those countries are Orthodox. Russia despite being a authoritarian state in all its history was not less culturally developed than the West. I guess you see how complicated everything is. Redeemed zoomer basically says thta everything is because of what your denomination is which is far far away from the truth. He ignores history and geography completely which he should not do.

Orthobro's most of the time aren't even Orthodox, to be considered Orthodox you have to be baptised and received communion which most of them haven't even been to a church. 2 other ways of defining orthodox is starting at Catechism which some do and the other being a practicing Orthodox aka the same requirements as becoming a god-parent

I disagree with RZ on a lot of stuff. But where RZ goes too far and genuinely frustrates me is his argument that Protestantism is the true faith because they exhibit the fruits of the spirit and the evidence for that is that Nordic Protestant countries are richer and produced scientific discoveries. To me it comes across as completely racist and pretentious that God loves Nordic and Anglo people more than Eastern European, Arab and African people. It makes my blood boil. Also it’s completely unbiblical. Babylon, Rome, the Seleucids, Persia, and the Amalekites were all way richer and had way better technology than the hebrews. God is the God of the orphan, the slave, the widow, the sojourner. Not the God of the technically savvy and economically prosperous.

@@JetShanghai it’s actually liberal theology. Not liberal as in American liberalism. Liberal as in Hegelian. Hegel was a Lutheran and believed that History was the Holy Spirit and that it was meant to culminate in some higher end. For Hegel and a lot of the contemporary Lutherans that was 18th century German Lutheran society was what everything was leading towards. All of history was building up to it. That’s the dialectic he set out. RZ is basically saying that the Holy Spirit who he is implicitly associating as history itself had found its culmination in 19 century New England Presbyterianism. Problem is that liberal theology puts the cart before the horse. German Lutheran society in the day of Hegel is long gone and so it 19th century New England Presbyterianism. The Holy Spirit guides history and what exactly is being guided isn’t always self evident and is typically only ever understood in retrospect.

(Hebrews 12, 22-24) is the image of the unity of the Church Militant and the Church Triumphant not in the future, but here and now ("But you have come..."). It even lists as to who is in the Church Triumphant and it includes Saints: "spirits of just men made perfect". Because we in the Church Militant are one and the same with the Church Triumphant, why wouldn't we ask our Saints to pray on our behalf.? After all, It is much easier to get a job if someone already working in the company recommends you to the employer... right.? So... why not to ask our Saints to recommend us to the Lord.?

@@MrMorgan316 Why dont they? Dont you believe the dead believers are alive in God? Just how the Lord tells us? We even are told Elijah and Moses came down during the transfiguration. Also its common practice to ask other people to pray for you, so why not ask a saint who is perfected and right there with God? The prayer of a righteous person is more powerful than from a sinful one. We are told that as well. Also only honor God? Where did you get that from? Arent we even directly told to honor our parents as well? Honoring, Venerating ≠ Worshipping. You dont know what you are talking about at all.

I noticed that a lot of criticism of Zoomer's points (not all, but a lot) are boiling down to something like, "well, you're attributing western theology using Roman Catholics who would disagree with your Protestantism." However, I think these criticisms in particular fail to realize the focus of Zoomer's video. This video focuses on what Protestants and Catholics agree on and how that differs from Orthodoxy. In the tree-diagram he uses, there's a portion of the western branch, prior to the splitting of Protestantism from Catholicism. The focus of this video is on only that part of the tree, the part after the Great Schism, where the west differs from the east, but is still prior to the Protestant Reformations, where they would then disagree. Yes, the Catholic figures he quote mines would disagree with Protestantism, but that's not the point he's trying to make. At the very beginning, his point is that there are a lot of things that Protestants and Catholics do agree on, even though they also disagree on a lot as well, they at least agree on these topics in contrast to the Orthodox.
