Hi Kyle! I actually really liked your video, you honestly showcased my whole channel much more skillfully than I ever have, so thank you! Your counterarguments against my video were completely valid. I made that video back when I had like 80 subscribers and didn't put much thought into it. Once I got more well-known I realized that my arguments in that video were very poor and didn't address the fundamental debates. So I promise you all that I'll make an updated video, and that I'll continue to look into Orthodoxy with an open mind. God bless, Redeemed Zoomer

So glad to hear you're looking into Orthodoxy more seriously and no longer dismiss them because they're poor (even though for most of the Middle Ages the Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantine Empire was richer than most of Western Europe and that changed only at the end of the Middle Ages with the Conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Empire in 1453 and conicided with the voyages of Christopher Columbus to the Americas a few decades later -1492 to 1504-).

As someone who was Protestant for 20 years, it is basically a self-help seminar with a band. I'm not bashing Protestants in general or as people, I know some really good, God fearing Prots. But most "mainstream" Protestant/Evangelical churches are built on these celebrity pastors that are far removed from the historic church.

I don't think that modern reformed protestants really understand their own teacher John Calvin's perspective on idolatry. Yes it's true that Calvin believed that icons and statues and the church itself were idols, but it wasn't anything inherently wrong with artistic depictions, it was because to him any time that we believe or think or say anything that potentially misrepresents God in any way that is idolatry. And according to him as humans we are constantly doing that. He believed in a super minimalist form of religion where the less that is said in worship, the less decorated the church is, the more simply you dress, the better, because the more we put into our religion in terms of material expression the more at risk we are of committing idolatry. Obviously modern reformed protestants don't really put much effort into practicing this and they've just adopted Calvin's view that pictures of God and saints are bad and forgotten about the rest of it.

As a former Presbyterian, this is absolutely true. The apostacy is extremely high, most of the churches became Liberal. The leading Presbyterian Church in South Africa (Dutch Reformed actually) has lost most of its following and the majority of their churches are empty and closing up doors. My grandfather is a pastor in the Dutch Reformed church and I think he rejects the virgin conception and the physical ressurection (I herd it from another pastor but I am to scared to ask him). One thing I’ve come to notice and admire about orthodoxy is that we don’t go out of our way to “reform” or “change” people. Orthodoxy in and of itself draws people in. As a born Hindu, I now feel like a stranger and awkward when my mum needs me to drive her to temple. I ask if I can stay in the car, she insists I go in, and so I do, and it doesn’t feel like home anymore. I’m looking forward to leaving the whole time

The whole point Zoomer is missing is that Tradition agrees with the Bible. Most Orthodox people admit that the Fathers had many disagreements and were even wrong about some things. But those are the things that aren’t dogma in the Church. Dogma is universally agreed upon by the Fathers because it doesn’t contradict Scripture. Even if it isn’t super explicitly stated in the Scripture, our Tradition sees through the more ambiguous verses by the power of the Holy Spirit to draw out their full meaning.

As a Bulgarian Orthodox - we are poorer than the West because of centuries long Ottoman rule and later Soviet regime. My country used to be an empire in the Middle ages, before the muslims came and invaded us. After we were freed from them, we developed very fast (during that time Orthodoxy was taught in schools and people were VERY religious) but only a few decades later communism came and essentially destroyed our progress. Protestants intentionally don't teach that because deep down they know they're wrong about theology. They connect their religion to superficial success and nationalism and the real thing that they worship is money. Great video, Kyle, thank you for defending the one true fate!

Lord, have mercy. 🤦‍♂️ The Truth can't be measured by "sophistication" of a civilization. This is such a Protestant mindset. It's has the same vibe as "I used to be poor & I was suffering. But now because I go to church, I pray, & I give alms so often, I'm now rich & I can buy a nice car. I'm automatically blessed. Hallelujah!" So shallow. THIS IS THE ONE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! I've been lutheran/presbyterian my whole life and have been in the church in the PCUSA, but I can't continue to believe in all this liberal BS, and after watching Redeemed Zoomer I came to Kyle to learn about Orthodoxy. Still very confused theologically and normally would agree with pretty much anything he said because he also is in the PCUSA but you've changed my mind a bit Kyle and I want to thank you for that. I'd like to ask a few questions, but I understand if no one replys- just trying to figure out some key problems I have. 1. I understand that politically we should have removed the Filioque, and I know that John 15:26 says directly that it proceeds from the father, but it also says in other passages that it is the spirit of Christ. Does the father who is also Jesus(in essence) send it down, and Jesus in this passage in John talking about that, and to my other point, is Jesus sending the spirit down from heaven through Himself who is subsequently the father as they are of the same essence? Also, why do we need to ask a someone (saint) in heaven to pray for us? It says directly in the Bible that none shall go to the Father except through Jesus- why is it a halfway point? I can understand veneration and I want to at least respect them but I'm confused here as well. Also, if the east is so mystical, why do we need to create ideas of what reality could be like through things like the essence-energies distinction? Im confused and wondering why we shouldn't just wait until heaven to figure that out. I also believe in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist but I know there's scripture to back you up on that so I guess I'm trying to understand if its literal canabalism or something else.(Also in the churches why if we want to only worship God do you have saints occupying a space meant only for Him?) Thank you for taking the time to read this if you have, but this is important and I wanted to ask at least someone if I could. I know I sound heretical(at least in the last 2 questions) and I know that the PCUSA Church has SERIOUS problems, and just trying to make everything theologically come together. -Also, pray for Serbia☦

Filioque has a very specific meaning of procession from Father AND the Son. procession means something very specific. 2. "why do we need to ask a someone (saint) in heaven to pray for us" Why wouldn't we want someone to pray for us? We ask everyone to pray for us including the Saints: orthodoxinfo.com/inquirers/invocationofsaints.aspx This is also mentioned in revelation. 3. "Bible that none shall go to the Father except through Jesus-" are you referring to John 14:6 "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." this is just talking that there is no salvation without Jesus Christ.. I have a video called Praying to Saints is Demonic.. REFUTED.. may help you. 4. "hy do we need to create ideas of what reality could be like" Icons are meant to be historical, and we are showing respect to the Saints, Angels. God etc etc.. 7th council goes over this: orthodoxwiki.org/Seventh_Ecumenical_Council 5. " literal canabalism" no it isn't cannibalism because that would be eating dead flesh... Eucharist is real presence, spiritual nourishment and UNDER the guise of bread of wine. NOT cannibalism!! 6. "only worship God do you have saints occupying a space meant only for Him?" we don't worship the Saints. we worship God alone, we just venerate Saints. Join the discord: discord.com/invite/wtqDsy4eVs we have many people that can answer your questions. Get the Book Rock & Sand by Fr Josiah Trentham (will help answer your questions). Lutheran Satire is actually a pretty good on-ramp for low-church Protestants because he articulates Luther’s correct positions on the Eucharist and the Trinity. He also roasts the current Pope 😂 This helped me notice that current Protestantism is divorced from historical Luther (who was also divorced from EO), a critical point that Rock and Sand brought up that Protestantism is chronically revisionist and progressive. I recommend mentioning these good points if you create a review/response to him.

protestant here, most of his arguments in that video were just self explanatory if you watched his other videos. he would often site the church fathers and the early church, in the question of authority protestants believe that the bible has things that you need to believe since they are explicitly said, and things that you cannot believe since the bible explicitly says not to. that is why we all need to agree in the trinity, niceen creed ect. if you are just reading this through quickly then you can miss some points as well so, strap your seat belts on, also dont take this as an insult brothers, meerly here to preach the gospel the reason why protestants believe you can split is because the holy spirit still remains in churches that have split, "why would they still have the holy spirit if they have different beliefs and interpretations?" having different interpretations is alright because by studying and reading the bible more, they are able to reach the same interpretation as other protestants. obviously we are imperfect, we are not going to look like a carbon copy of each other, but the holy spirit isnt just some magical thing that can change us immediately, we are able to reject it and such an example of this would be presbyterian and baptists, a baptist would be much more acceptable to images of angles and jesus and statues of jesus, while a presbyterian would either be skeptical of images and statues of jesus and outright discourage any drawing, statue or graven image of an object due to the second commandment. does this make baptists a untrue church from a presbyterian point of view? while we can discourage the fact of them not upholding the second commandment, take into consideration that baptists can and will tell their church to not make any paintings or graven of angles no more, did that mean that they changed their mind or that they accepted the holy spirit and changed? this is the reason why many protestants see orthodoxy worse than allowing change within churches is the things that makes tradition overall harmful for the church, since if we stick with one belief only and never change it, what happens when we are revealed that a belief of ours is wrong? we need to submit to the authority of the bible and not to the church's leaders. God bless.

We need a mix as many protestant churches like to take bible verses out of context, stripping them of meaning. This allows false teachers to claim stuff like homosexuality, transgenderism, and multi spiritualism (aka paganism) to be in accordance. Anyone who sits down and actually reads the bible and takes it for fact knows those things are sins and against the word. We need strong people in the church who can tell when, disprove, and remove false teachings from the church. Issue in protestantism is when this happens the church splits leading half to death and half to life. Thats why the catholic and orthodox churches are structures itself the way they are currently structured. Furthermore all protestant churches use bibles that are made by a heretic who removed books, and teachings from the scriptures. For that reason alone I can’t tie myself to any protestant denomination, yet the catholics also proven themselves false leaving me with non denominational and orthodoxy as paths for my choosing.

"believe since the bible explicitly says not to." but this is the problem. you have thousands of denominations all operating on the belief of Sola Scriptura YET coming to different conclusions... HOW do you know you are interpreting the Bible correctly? please check out my video Protestantism Debunked in 15 minutes! "having different interpretations is alright" but if you read the Church Fathers it is not just different opinions, it is either orthodox or heterodox teaching.. theology is VERY important! "his make baptists a untrue church from a presbyterian point of view" well yes, Traditional they have been OUTSPOKEN against each other.. It is only a modern phenomenon, as things get watered down that they stop caring about difference... And NONE of the Protestants have monasteries. Monastic life has always been essential to Christianity! "things that makes tradition overall harmful... revealed that a belief of ours is wrong" so could the Church be wrong about the Trinity? Heaven? Eucharist? Baptism? The Church is established by Christ AND guided by the Holy Spirit.. This exact criticism is talked about in Rock & Sand By Fr Josiah Trenham.. This OPENS up the box to re-invent the wheel every century instead of follow the Tradition handed down from the Apostles = Jesus... "authority of the bible and not to the church's leaders. " where did the Bible come from? why do you accept Church's leadership to give cannon of the Bible??? HOW do you know you are interpreting the Bible correctly? watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpzcapiKgK-hqtE

@@OrthodoxKyle hey, that was a fast response lol yes, we have "thousands" of denominations all operating on sola scriptura, and we do come to different conclusions. yet the church fathers were varied as well and all had different beliefs, so does that mean that the holy spirit wasn't guiding them according to that reasoning? yes, you are correct that the church fathers believed in either orthodoxy or heterodox teaching, yet the church fathers also believed in one true catholic church, so why arent you submitting to the roman catholic tradition? are you a heretic teaching heterodox! yes, baptist and presbyterian have historically been outspoken to each other, and still are. yet, both of use, baptist and presbyterians have also agreed on many things historically which is why i bring up the holy spirit where, since baptists dont have as strict policies, they are able to teach the correct teachings and follow all of the 10 commandments and repent. and yes, monasteries have also been a part if christian life, but so has temples for Gods work, circumcision, being a jew, and following a jewish life style. yet all of these things were solved by St. Paul thousands of years ago, why dwell on the same problem that has been solved and told onto you thousands of years ago, do you not know that St. Paul has told us to not dwell onto these issues since you can be circumcised and still be as if you were uncircumcised, same should be said for monasteries, you can go to one but does that make you better than one who just goes to church to eat his spiritual food? no, the church cannot be wrong about the trinity, heaven, eucharist and baptism because they are explicitly said, yet once when tradition gets in the way of the basic commandments that God himself gave unto us, then that would be against not only to our self but to the holy spirit. tradition is a good thing if we make the right things into tradition, trinity, heaven, eucharist and baptism being an example, but if we make graven images, saying that our good works are not that of the holy spirit, denying the good the holy spirit has done onto us and call that something good that we should uphold and saying its heretical if we break the most fundamentals of commandments, then with honesty that is not good for the church. the bible didn't come from church leaders, for there was no church to make the word of the bible, it was God himself who made the bible made the church and yet many church leaders have said otherwise, where did the church come from? the church cannot make the church so how can it make the bible? when you listen more to the church leaders than the word that has been given onto you that leads to things like progressive churches, cults and heretical leaders, "the church made the bible so listen to me not the bible!", is that what God taught? there is only one leader we should listen to with a full heart and he is one that is always with us, and he is the only church leader. many protestants dont see either roman catholic or eastern orthodox as a true church due to these things, some protestants like redeemed zoomer do show sympathy to the orthodoxy and still say theyre christian. in my opinion i can only see Gods judgment and see how much others abide by it. i pray for you either way, that you may soon read what is written and truly look into it. blessings

I love your arguments. However, I tend to look at the Book of Job as a parable against legalism (or even the prosperity Gospel kind of thinking), not merely evidence that bad things can happen to good people. I think that story subtly hints that Job, while he was (perfectly?) lawful, he was lawful for his own sake. He did not have a relationship with God; he did not love the good for goodness’ sake alone.
@OrthodoxKyle

Well Orthodoxy isn't legalistic... But fighting heresy is important. I think the story of Job is about how bad things happen, for seemingly random reasons.. but we need to trust in God's providence... we cannot overthink things!

The best point that can be made agaisnt the various Protestant sects is that the Bible isn't a "holy book" because Jesus said so. I disagree with the Eastern Orthodox's teaching on salvation. The Bible clearly teaches that God is the initiator of our salvation and keeper. Christ told Nicodemus he had to be born from above of the Holy Spirit. Christ also told the father that of all He had given Him, He had lost none except the son of perdition (Judas Isacariot). If we could lose our salvation, that would mean we could frustrate God's work of salvation. It would mean Christ's death on the cross was not effectual for those that perish. It makes no sense that Christ's sacrifice was not sufficient. John 1: 12-13 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Part of 1 Corinthians 10:22 Are we stronger than he?

13:43 The Holy Spirit is indeed called the "Spirit of Christ" or "Spirit of the Son", but He is also called "the Spirit of Elijah" (2Kg; Lk) or "the Spirit of the Prophets" (1Cor). This is not about the eternal procession of the Spirit, the only place that the eternal procession is explained is in the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John: "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me." The Father proceded the Spirit for the Son, thats why Jesus said: "All things that the Father hath are mine", not that he participated in the eternal procession of the Spirit, but that in the Trinitarian life the Father gave the Spirit to him, and He gave it back to the Father in an eternal act of Love. If the westerns at the time were wanting to add to the Creed because they thought that it was biblical they should have called an ecumenical council and them debated the question. The Orthodox did not accept the Filioque because it was NOT biblical, nor patristic. It is "biblical" only in the surface, just like prot "sola fide" is "biblical.
