EP 126 | The Disturbing Truth About the War on Masculinity w/ Prof. Nancy Pearcey | Redeeming Truth
Pastor Jon Benzigner interviews author Nancy Pearcey on her research into the "toxic war on masculinity." They trace the historical roots back to the Industrial Revolution's negative impacts on family dynamics and fathers' influence. Pearcey explains how scriptural concepts of biblical manhood have been replaced by secular cultural scripts.
This episode offers practical guidance for churches to build up healthy masculinity and reach out to struggling men and boys.

this also happened in psychology in the 80s - you need to be more in touch men, express things your father couldn't do emotionally, you can cry, give yourself permission, and be more sensitive as if you had a feminine side to you they wished you believed. As one pastor Pickerill used to say, "paid friends" and at $350 an hour, well paid in a handsome way.

that is so true - without the image of a Father to lead and guide, many boys thought, well I'll show him I'm a man, so to be big at say 18, they drank or smoke; to be big, they knew before marriage what it was to be with a woman. to be big, they would race in cars they could not afford. This is the toll of the parent who had no time to show young Johnny these things were not needed to become manly.

Oh yes, I remember this in the cross-training and becoming culturally sensitive days of the '90s when I was a CPS worker for LA County, the Clinton then Bush administration had a profound influence on being culturally politically correct and careful not to God forbid, offend anyone. this also happened when I entered the public education field as a teacher, Jesus or Christian beliefs are not tolerated here (other religions welcome - Buddha, Muslim). Check those at the door, never speak them in your classroom.

there has always been SIN and sinners - only back in the day of say early Disney in a primarily moral and Christian nation then, the ones that wanted to express their "art" were not allowed to because they realized it wouldn't sell, and it would hurt the company, recent examples: Target/Budweiser

the reason some protest at headship leading, or guiding a family is the same reason they do not care for anything of God or godliness, not submit, not doing what anyone tells them to do, not feeling it, don't care, and so rebellion and ridicule follow. I'm doing it my way aka Frank Sinatra.

it makes sense the powerful influence of a father - because a girl seeks to marry one who is a lot like their dad, and more so if he is a dad of integrity, honesty, hard working, God-fearing and faith-believing. A boy on the other hand if left to himself will eat all the candy and cake he wants til his teeth rot, play video games all day, never know what a rake or lawn mower is, and have absolutely zero outdoor skills. He seeks to learn to be a man from his father or emulate men like that he admires.

Without a man in the house, there can be no peace or security - protection. In the same way without God in our hearts and lives there is no protection or peace. God provides - God protects.

those who were isolated half a century ago were considered strange or weird until gangs came along telling them they belonged to such a lifestyle. Children need their fathers, it is like operating with one arm or leg when you have two. They may have been ridiculed as loners or losers, but where was the church at the time of opportunity then?

Sociology, Psychology, and Philosophical studies will never make a good man, there is none, save one - Christ. Man had a perfect heart that was broken when he rebelled to do as he pleased; the only way a man will become regenerated, a new creature, is His encounter w Jesus, getting to know Him in prayer, walking w Him, reading His Word so he can know his will and follow the path God laid out for him. Well-meaning as any book or commentator is, it will never substitute for the words that truly feed and nurture, which will always live, God's Word.

to the casual, nothing is formal, nothing is sacred, meaning is blurred, and so why pay attention to rules or respect them, rules don't actually apply to me, just for the real bad guy, or that other guy; thus without reflection/deep thought these will go on sinning worse than those who are worldly because they once tasted the goodness of God, and trashed it - as if something to not treasure or value.

Bandwagon or cultural Christians - you really have to wonder if these were saved at any point in their life; if there is no investment, no bonafide serious commitment to the things of God, then how different are those from doing as they please. Once seared a conscience is never the same. I won't deny there was an altar call, or when someone said who wants to be like Jesus, live forever, and go to heaven that several hands didn't go up - what I am saying - is that many churches and leaders never followed up, let them go thru the doors happy go lucky, some never to be seen again, and in doing so, you have many a man or woman who thinks they are safe or saved, but really have not been properly discipled or taught. Shouldn't we learn from Jesus that even after 3 years of day-to-day teaching, the 12 did nt really get it, until the day of His Resurrection, giving them a hope they never had, and the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit gave them the power they did not have in themselves anymore, to desire to follow God, and actually follow. If the secular or carnal Christian (who makes excuses and indulgences) doesn't know any better, how will they unless they are challenged, and reached? The laundry is still dirty until you use soap and bleach.

There is no such thing as masculine toxicity. Thus was a term coined in a prison were men got so violent that the phrase was formed. Its masculine men. I have been in a very toxic relationship and was treated so badly that my memory started to fail i started living my life on the edge and yet i just stayed in this relationship. Then God deliverd me and broke that relationship in 6 hours. But its left me in a place where i dont want a woman in my life

This lady is CONFIRMING that men changed and become self obsessed and never did give up adultery While religious leaders promote eay marriage for men like old days They never mention how adultery (Jesus said divorce was the solution to adultery but pastors refuse to preach it)

This is true as well but we cannot forget that a lot of men are ungodly and it affects the whole family. This happened once we let go of the Bible expectations of men and women. Also, let's include pornography which is rampant even among church members which again affects the whole family.
