I wouldn't feel right winning a grand tour if I wasn't the strongest rider. I'm not even a fan of gifted stages, but that's at least more understandable. But gifting the whole tour...? I don't like it. I'm not saying that Sepp isn't for sure, but we won't know if he can hang with Jonas and Primoz if they don't attack at any point. And with Remco out of the GC, they won't really have a reason to attack. I really hope they go against each other on the Angliru and see if Sepp can hang with the other two there. He doesn't even need to beat them, but if he can stay in the GC lead after that stage, then the other two can work for him for the rest of the Vuelta in my opinion.

I am a fan of Kuss for sure. But, at the end of the day, it should be earned. For those of us old enough to remember Lemond vs Bernard Hinault (the Badger) that is how it went down. Lemond earned that TDF win, through and through, it was not gifted to him...@@Tommi462

About Remco's off day: on the rest day, his coach made Remco take total rest without putting the legs under tension. Probably because fatigue was already building up. But it backfired!. in the time trial, Remco did not reach his numbers and had heavy legs at the start. He expected to win the TT and distance his GC Rivals but it was not as much as he hoped for. Remco get's worried. Add that, to all the pressure on Remco to beat Jumbo in the high mountains, it just cut his legs off. That is not to say, that fatigue building up was not a factor. When all the pressure went off because the GC was gone, it gave him super legs at stage 14. No rider is under as much pressure as Remco Evenepoel and he popped and resurrected. Respect!

@@danielrussell9416 Hardly, Landis was down a lot less time, and subsequently they obviously were not goign to let him go, but he basically humiliated them all, drove off very early while the frontrunners then licked their wounds, and had their entire teams trying to claw back the time, but Landis drove so fast he took back all the time he lost the day before and then some. Remco lost 27 minutes, clearly once he saw he was down 10-15m after a while, he realised he wouldn't be a factor for the GC, so he finished the rest at a snails pace, conserving all his energy, hoping for a stage win the day after or beyond. Guys, this is not a "surprising" result. Here's how it works when a top GC contender has a bad day: once they know they're not gonna be in top 5/10 contention, they go as easy as they can, to both lose as much time as possible (so no one worries when they try to get in a break the next day) and also to save their legs to win another day. Once you're out of the GC, all that counts is more stage wins. This win was great, but VERY predictable.

Was it really a "return to form" for Remco, or did he just realize GC was out of reach the day before and decide to conserve as much energy as possible for a strong next stage?

@@frankchan5547 Again, your comment shows that you don't know what the term "pyrrhic victory" means. It's a victory that comes at such a great cost that it endangers your ultimate goal. It means you win the battle but at such a cost that it will lose you the war. But Remco's war was already lost the day before. This victory does not, in any way, make it less likely that Remco will win the Vuelta. Hence it wasn't a pyrrhic victory.

I don't think it's a redemption. Team Jumbo Visma just let go of Remco who is no longer a threat to the red jersey. It's just a consolation prize for Remco who is no match to TJV big three.

Its cool that Kuss is leading, but I want the best man to win the race too. Its tricky with JV, but if there's a way all three can race without hurting their 1-2-3 standing, that would be epic to see who comes out on top... I still think Kuss can keep the lead, but it would be great to see the top 3 race each other.

GCN Commentators' gushing over Remco's 'redemption' throughout much of yesterday's stage was nauseating. Remco cracked the day before and then eased off in order to go for stages. Nothing that incredible about it.

Remco rode that stage like a one day classic and to prove a point to himself more than anything else. But his GT is gone and perhaps he can salvage a top 10 position in Madrid. It shows that his failure yesterday was mental more than physical.

The Floyd Landis comeback stage was much more remarkable than Evenopoel's, but that accomplishment will not be discussed for obvious reasons. After such a remarkable comeback like that, I hope Evenopoel's stage win drug test will be negative.
