NaruHina Canon is Trash | A Timestamped Analysis

I roast canon NaruHina for 27 minutes, basically. It’s the most lackluster, underdeveloped ship I have ever seen. Like, I’ve read plenty of fan fiction with characters who’ve never talked in the series and they get better writing and chemistry building then NaruHina. Kishimoto, his editors, and Studio Perriot may as well just lower me to my grave so they can let me down one last time.
That being said, if anyone has recommendations for any decent Naruto fanfics, especially with Sakura, an OC/Self-insert, or maybe someone else, maybe even Hinata Idk, just paste it my way in the comments below.

The chemistry between their characters was so minimal because of their lack of interactions and Hinatas constant love for Naruto and his disinterest in the manga makes it only more sadder. The fact that SP had to make a whole movie AND involve a genjutsu and space aliens to make them end up together ON TOP of Neji’s unnecessary death makes me side eye the canon couple forever.

Not to mention that Naruhina as a ship, is just as toxic contrast to the Sakura's with Sasuke. Hinata views Sakura as her enemy, but Sakura respected her as an individual and didn't seem to have ill intentions towards her. Narusaku could have potential as a healthy ship, only if Sasuke and Hinata were out of the picture, since both of them looked like toxic characters without a personality.

Plus Neji reforming the clan could have ended his character arc beautifully, especially because he can stop future generations being treated like him and honor a legacy that would have made a girl like Hinata thrive better in the clan. Hinata is one of my favorite characters but I second this. I loved Jiraiya and Itachi and Neji, and they still died, so I would’ve probably been okay with Hinata’s death. It would’ve made sense, but honestly Neji was protecting Hinata which also makes sense. Unfortunately he’s doing exactly what he was trying to avoid most of his life Either way, I would’ve just been yelling at my brother “HE KILLED HINATA OFF!!!” for weeks like I did for the other three, but I wouldn’t have shed a tear lol. It would just be shock but it would’ve been such a good shock. Hinata dying to save Naruto would’ve just made Hinata fans like her even more, no lie

The Ino and Sai pairing is also poorly written and poorly executed. When they meet, Ino is only interested in him because according to her he looked like Sasuke and Sai only calls her "pretty". thinking that she really is ugly to prevent her from hitting him like Sakura... That was all for them to end up together in the end as seen in chapter 700 of the manga. There are people who defend this couple because in Boruto they are seen to be happy together and in the Shikamaru Hidden novel they show you how Sai corresponds to Ino BUT it is still forced because following the original manga there was ZERO chemistry between Sai and Ino. Not to mention the fact that Ino was still interested in Sasuke in the ninja war (which made no sense because the series never developed a link between the 2 characters, Sasuke never spoke to Ino and Ino never saw Sasuke again until the war... but that's a separate issue) shows that Sai was a replacement. I love Naruto but the Romance and the female caracthers are relly BAD written.😫

I actually like Ino/Sai. It's not my go-to, but out of the mess of the ending, its not the worst pairing out there. I don't think Kishimoto intended that pairing because it was definitely hella random. Pretty sure it was just something thrown together because they needed parents for the next gen kids, like Choji/Karui (another example of random, but it works), and Ino liked him enough to add to her harem. At least they treat each other better then NH or SS 🤷🏽‍♀️ And funny enough, I've always known that Ino held a burning torch for Sasuke even after Sakura and her made up pre-Shippuden. I think she mostly just kept it to herself, but it was an open secret basically. She was canonically the first of the characters to crush on Sasuke, and any time Sasuke is brought up in front of her, she reacts. Even her Tsykuyomi dream had Sasuke and Sai fighting over her. Other then that, you're not wrong that romance and female characters are Kishimoto's worse nightmares.

@@DayDayDoes I still say Ino/Chouji would have been the best pairing for Ino since the biggest issue with Ino's love that we've seen is that she bases it on being physically good looking over everything else. Sasuke and Sai's personalities didn't matter to her, only their looks. Chouji would have been a good example of her evolving beyond that shallow perspective. Chouji would have been the flip - acknowledging problems with his physical looks and slovenly personality. Which I thought they were moving towards in Shippuden because he's more muscle than fat at 15/16, and seemed to put more effort in his hairstyle and clothing to come off as more attractive.

My problem with NaruHina is this: 1. It was poorly written to the point it feels like it only happened because the fans wanted it to happen. 2. Hinata’s main motivation and her as a character became about Naruto. 3. It takes them an entire fucking movie to even get together despite her confessing her love for him during the Pein arc. 4. Neji was killed off for this ship. 5. Hinata became a damn housewife. 6. Hinata has so much wasted potential where they never acknowledged the way her father treated her, never had her help to fix her clans problems with Neji, never became clan head. Nada. Zero. 7. They didn’t make Hinata standout more. This girl created TWO original jutsus and we rarely saw either of them. Hell one of them was in a damn filler episode and that’s it.

I can make this simple The Naruto manga has 13,728 pages total from the beginning to the end of Gaiden. Yes, I counted. In those pages, Naruto and Hinata interacted exactly 37 pages. Arguably 7 of those pages were shoehorned in to tie in with that stupid movie. That is exactly 0.02% of the manga. The movie sums it up Sakura: "Hey Naruto, maybe you should walk Hinata home." Naruto: "Why?"

If at a glance it’s making you side eye, that’s how you know it’s a terrible pairing. There’s nothing wrong with having some romance in shonen, it’s how you execute it that matters. If there’s a lack of chemistry between characters in platonic form, don’t pursue it as a canon pairing. Simple as that.

SasuSaku is equally as pathetic: Sasuke honest-to-God does NOT reciprocate her feelings, he's rejected Sakura at least twice, and when they encounter each other again 3 years later at Orochimaru's hideout, Sasuke himself straight up says that he's resolved to sever the bond between them... yet Sakura’s still hung up on him and on him returning to Konoha. Granted Sakura and Naruto were under the impression, even after that encounter, that Orochimaru was going to take possession of his body, they were *genuinely* concerned for his safety, yet even after learning of Sasuke's slaying Orochimaru, they're still clinging to the idea of him coming home.

I hate how “The Last” ruined both Naruto and Hinata’s characters. Hinata went from competent ninja to damsel in distress unable to fight or protect herself. Naruto apparently only liked Sakura out of a rivalry with Sasuke which makes Naruto look shallow and hypocritical. Plus it totally abolished Naruto’s whole “I hate people who lie to themselves” motive. Even Sai asks Naruto in the beginning of Shippuden why he never confessed to Sakura, Naruto says he was unable to fulfill his promise to her. Naruto still very clearly liked Sakura even after she begged him to bring Sasuke back. This ship like every other one in the show was poorly planned.

For me, Hinata is the living embodiment of Japan’s flavor of sexism. A culture and society where women are expected to be nothing more than submissive and subservient accessories for the men in their lives. While Hinata was a child, all she wanted was to be in love with Naruto and support him; because god forbid she had any of her own dreams or desires. When she becomes an adult, her career as a shinobi is effectively over as she’s nothing but a domestic housewife who looks after her husband's children while he has the freedom to actually have a life. Because that’s all women are good for, they’re just objects of affection for men to obtain and once that is done all they’re good for is looking after the kids. They, and Hinata by extension, will never challenge their husbands and only exist to satisfy and please them when they are needed & when they are not needed, they are expected to step aside and do nothing as the men in their lives take action and make all the real decisions. Obviously, western civilization’s track record with feminism isn’t much better, but Hinata is proof that we don’t possess a monopoly over gender inequality. I honestly believe this is why Hinata was so popular with studio Pierrot and the male-targeted demographic of Shonen Jump. A shy and timid girl who inexplicably devoted her whole life to loving you with little to no explanation grows up and is still obsessed with you. Add in her new “attractive” character design and gee, I wonder why she was so popular. Also, just to be clear, I’m not saying that’s the only reason to like Hinata, you can like her for any reason. But let’s be honest, that’s the main reason most guys liked her and that’s definitely the reason studio Pierrot loved her. In contrast, Sakura was the girl who dumped us, who defied us because she was into the cool dark popular guy and how dare she not reciprocate our feelings. Obviously, it’s more complicated than that, and Kishimoto did her no favors as the story progressed, but that’s one of the real reasons why Sakura was so hated back in the day. She rejected Naruto, which meant she rejected us (and by us, I’m mostly referring to the male-targeted demographic of Shonen Jump) and we rejected her so we could be with the girl who was given no reason to exist other than being in love with us. It’s because of stuff that I just can’t go back and enjoy Naruto anymore. The adventure of a kid in the Ninja world and trying to change it for the better just bogged down in so much BS, not just the romance, and in the end, it was painfully clear that Kishimoto just stopped caring about his own story at some point. He used Kaguya to get rid of Madara and Obito. Naruto didn’t really change or save the Ninja world and just reinforced the shinobi status quo. In the end, he took a romance that he, Oda, and his own wife said was based on their real-life relationship and threw it all away.

@@rhuonaChanel While the Hyuga storyline did involve Hinata, it was mainly driven by Neiji (Hinata's male cousin), Hizashi (Her Uncle), and Hiashi (Her father). Hiashi and Hizashi were the ones who forced this rivalry onto Neiji through the former's efforts to enforce it and the latter's desire to resist it. Neiji was the one who suffered the most due to the cursed mark and was the one who convinced Hiashi that he was wrong. Hiashi was the one who apologized to Neiji after his fight with Naruto finally gave Neiji some degree of freedom. Outside of being kidnapped (Helpless damsel in distress) and being beaten to a bloody pulp by Neiji (hooray for violence against women) Hinata had absolutely zero involvement in the storyline. And what happens once Hiashi forgives Neiji, the Hyuga storyline and conflict come to an end and are never touched upon again for the rest of the story. Why? Because the Hyuga storyline wasn't about Hinata, it was about Neiji. Also, it's kind of weird that Hinata's mother and aunt (Neiji's mother) don't seem to exist, it's almost like only the male characters in Naruto matter and actually get to do stuff. I do agree that there were reasons why Sakura left a bad first impression. Her bullying an orphan being the worst. However, the point isn't that she rejected Naruto, it's that she rejected the audience surrogate that most of the audience projected themselves onto. When Sakura rejected Naruto, she reminded most guys of the times when they were rejected by the girl they liked because she wanted to be with someone else and they in turn came to resent her. Combine those feelings of animosity with several genuine bad creative choices and poor handling from Kishimoto and it's no wonder why she was so hated. However, rather than direct that energy into critiquing the author and his writing in a healthy and constructive fashion, they instead chose to attack the fictional character. Sakura was definitely done dirty by Kishimoto and any criticism of the handling of the character should go to him. However, the audience didn't do that and instead did everything in their power to destroy Sakura's reputation with the shipping war against Hinata only dumping an ocean of gas on the fire. The only saving grace is that voice actors can hide in their recording booths and Twitter didn't exist until the late 2000s, so the voice actress was safe from harassment. But believe me, this has happened so many times that it's just sad.

@@Katokhann I can't give you a scholarly source or citation to back up my claim, it's just a general phenomenon that is quite common and hard to ignore. Also, keep in mind I'm not saying this is some universal rule or principle that explains why everyone hated Sakura, it's a contributing factor that most of her haters aren't consciously aware of and will deny if you bring it up because it will delegitimize their arguments against her. Most audiences are generally hardwired to project themselves onto the character or relate to their struggle and the author encourages this mindset to keep them engaged and invested in the story so they continue receiving their support. Since Shonen Jump is mostly geared toward teenage/young adult males, they'll subconsciously bring their experiences and connect them with Naruto's story. This helps us empathize with Naruto and we in turn come to feel his emotions while adding our own into the mix. So when Sakura rejected Naruto, we weren't motivated to want Naruto to prove her wrong and end up with her, we instead wound up resenting her for rejecting Naruto and by extension us. Unfortunately a large of chuck of my argument depends on first-hand account during time of release. Growing up reading and watching Naruto, one thing that was almost completely impossible to avoid was the incredibly bad reception that Sakura and Sakura alone received. There were entire message boards, KZbin videos, and early memes that were focused entirely on denigrating Sakura as a character, denying any positive attributes or contributions she had as a character, blaming her for anything that goes wrong in the story in the most severe way (for example, people still blame Sakura for not destroying Obito's Rinnegan and dooming the world and not Kishimoto for breaking every rule in his story by asspulling Madara into the Kamui dimension) and insulting her at any opportunity. Believe me "Useless" was the kindest thing 2000s edgy teenagers called her back in the day. Granted, part of the problem is as you mentioned, Kishimoto's bad writing of female characters, and since Sakura was the main character, he unintentionally kept giving the audience more and more reasons to dislike her. Sakura made a terrible first impression as most of her initial interactions and relationship with Naruto was incredibly harsh and cold, in addition to being overly obsessed with Sasuke. This was further compounded by her being "useless" during most of part I as she contributed very little of value to the story. Combine all that animosity with the shipping war against Hinata, and it was the perfect storm that made Sakura into one of the most infamous characters in the early to mid-2000s internet. However, this same lackluster writing was a staple across most of the female cast in Naruto, yet it was only Sakura who was widely despised for most of the story until Kaguya's appearance. Meanwhile, someone like Hinata, who outside of the Pain Arc, contributed even less to the story and personality is basically "I love Naruto", is widely beloved and admired. Sure all the aforementioned reasons from above are enough to make any character unpopular, but why was the hatred against her so widespread and so personal at times that so many felt the need to tarnish her reputation and rarely criticize the author writing her. To put things bluntly, your average teenager and young adult doesn't have the best media literacy and instead of criticizing Kishimoto for poorly writing a female character, they blamed Sakura for ruining Naruto and wanted him to be with Hinata because she was the "better" option. This brings us back to the core of the issue, people hated Sakura and loved Hinata, and we can see that in their relationship with Naruto, the main character that most of the audience projected. One is the girl who dumped Naruto and went on to become one of the most despised characters in anime and the other is one who was created solely to love the main character and went on to become beloved despite appearing in less than 2% of the story. Again, just to be clear, not everyone thinks or feels like this, but a major subconscious reason for the wide gap in reception can be boiled down to that one difference. We wanted to be Naruto, Sakura hated and rejected Naruto, so we came to hate and reject her, and Hinata was always to devote her entire existence to making us happy, so we wanted to be with her. In short, Sakura was that first crush who crushed our hearts and we never forgave her for that and did everything in our power to destroy her. Meanwhile, Hinata was that shy, submissive girl who grew up to be super hot and only wanted to love us. One is bitter crushing reality and the other is idealized male fantasy. This happens a lot of times with plenty of female characters who are hated because they don't do what the male audience wants them to do. Look at Skylar White from Breaking White, Lori Grimes from Walking Dead, and when it comes to anime, there's no case worse than Sakura Haruno. Lastly, yes, Hinata and Neiji were in a match, but Kishimoto purposely chose to make the scene as graphic and painful as possible for the sake of Neiji's story and Hinata suffered as a result of that choice. He could have just had Neiji harmlessly knock Hinata unconscious, make a sneer, or shout some trash talk at her, and the same point of Neiji not liking the main family would have been made. Instead, he had Neiji nearly kill her and he never suffered any consequences for that choice. Meanwhile, the only lasting impact of Hinata being brutalized is motivating Naruto to defeat Neiji. In the end, Hinata's suffering and pain were irrelevant to her story, she was nearly killed, but it didn't bother her, as long as she got to see Naruto succeed, that's all she cared about.

The "It's a shonen" excuse most people bring up is such a lazy excuse. Both Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Inuyasha were also shonen but Edward/Winry and Inuyasha/Kagome were better developed in a shorter overall runtime than NaruHina ever was in 700+ chapters/episodes. What gets me about this pairing is that it's sooooo easy to fix. Just have them talk after Hinata's sacrifice during the Pain arc and have Hinata slowly grow more confident from there, that's it. Maybe have her finally standing up to her abusive father, maybe even have her finally embrace her role as the Hyuuga heir with Neji's support and some sisterly bonding with Hanabi. Just something other than chasing after Naruto for once! It would have been a great way to develop Hinata as a character because she has no reason to act like the stereotypical shy girl at that point in the series. She just stood up to the strongest villain they ever faced at the time! There's literally no reason for her to go back to being a doormat post Pain. It's like whenever her character looks like it's finally taking a step forward, it takes a few steps back and I just can't help but feel disappointed in her wasted potential. There was a filler episode that was about Hinata and Hanabi and it actually brought up a pretty interesting topic. The conflict was that Hinata was struggling to balance having to train being the heir while also trying to be a loving older sister to Hanabi. It was the reason why Hanabi kinda looked down on her for a little while. Why Kishimoto didn't capitalise on this, I don't know. But hey, he was fine taking some filler elements like the Seven Ninja Swordsmen characters that nobody remembers but he still made canon in the manga though! Lol With that said, you could also have Naruto notice her for it and maybe start to feel something for her seeing this new side to her that we would eventually see in Boruto instead of making him go back to Sakura over and over and putting him in that very insulting genjutsu guilt trip in the Last. Like in theory, it's a good pairing, I can totally see the appeal and their personalities contrast each other in the right ways that they could actually work off each other well enough. But like Hinata herself, the pairing is just wasted potential written by an author who actively refused to take advantage all of the tools he was given. It really had the makings of a great pairing and it just sucks it was wasted that even his own wife called him out on. That's when you know he royally messed up with this pairing despite what the obsessive fanboys say, lol The problem really is that Kishimoto prioritised trolling to get more views (that's literally the reason why he kept teasing with that ham-fisted love square, he admitted to it) instead of actually working on it and with SasuSaku..... yeah that was just dead on arrival, xD

I've had the same thoughts as you for a while now and the Last is what made me realise why NaruHina was such a disappointment even though I used to think it was cute back in the day. Honestly, Hinata to me is just a character that got done real dirty. Her character in part 1 was genuinely interesting with her conflict with Neji. The issue is Kishi, and especially Studio Perriot, saw the dollar signs with her and turned her into a generic waifu bait. She had the makings of a great character and the thought of her growing from a shy girl with anxiety issues, pressured by her conservative clan and becoming more independent and confident as she slowly breaks out from her stubborn father's ways is very appealing and inspiring. Not to mention that would be a brilliant way to parallel her story to Naruto's too since Naruto was more or less dealing with the same thing but from the opposite end of the spectrum. It really was there and it's so annoying how it wasn't utilised! Ughh, lol She could've been a female version of Itachi too when you really think about it. A lot of people don't see the parallels between them but it's there. Like they're both older siblings with huge amounts of pressure put on them by their strict dads, they both come from a prestigious clan famous for their eyes and is expected to continue the legacy of said clan, they both have younger siblings that look up to them greatly and were really attached to them as little kids but their relationship got strained due to clan stuff getting in the way and so on. The only difference is Hinata had confidence issues while Itachi did not. The fact that Itachi got what he got really tells me how Hinata could've been so much better and why Kishimoto really has no excuse. And about the filler I mentioned, it's funny because apparently that filler only came to be because Kishimoto really liked Disney's Frozen at the time and he really liked the sisterly relationship aspect it had. Why he never bothered to capitalise on that, I'll never know, lol And yeah, I agree that most people love NaruHina because of the potential it has, not for what it really is. Like whenever I ask them what moments they could think of that makes them so great besides what happened in the Pain and War arcs, they don't really have anything else, lol ShikaTema moments are much easier to pinpoint than NaruHina for a lot of people and that says a lot, lol Honestly, the only great moments for this pairing for me is in Boruto. The first one is when they checked on their kids while they were sleeping. It was cute seeing them act like loving parents and seeing Hinata comfort Naruto about feeling like a disappointing dad. Another is when they were shopping for clothes and Hinata excitedly picked out cute shirts for Naruto to wear that he was embarrassed to try on but in a fun, usual married couple banter way. They had genuine chemistry in those scenes and they ironically add to my frustration with the pairing itaelf. Those moments really show the potential this pairing has/has always had and it keeps annoying me how they actively refused and still kind of are refusing to take advantage of it. Seriously, I've never seen a pairing that's this easy to not mess up and yet somehow they keep finding ways to do it. Like how hard is it to just have them talk? Also, no, Inuyasha could arguably be about romance but even then, romance wasn't the only major focus. Inuyasha was also dealing with stuff like how his brother is kind of a jerk, grieving Kikyo, the rivalry with Koga and Naraku planning to corrupt everything. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is far from being a pure romance. The main driving force behind that show was that Ed was guilty he made Al the way he is and is determined to heal his little brother and have his closure with his deceased mother. Winry played a major role but Ed's story did not revolve around her. Meanwhile Kishimoto tried making romance look like such a big deal with stuff like Sasuke's departure, Hinata's confession and the Last yet he actively refused to do anything with it. You can't blame people for criticising him for it because he's the one who put it there. He could've easily just not do any of that if he wasn't interested but he still did it anyway. Like seriously, what was the bloody point of Hinata's confession other than to trigger Naruto's kyuubi transformation? That wasn't brought up again and the main cast acts like it never even happened. Hell, even Naruto and Hinata act like it never even happened. It makes her sacrifice seem even more useless when you realise literally anyone could've done what Hinata did there and it would've achieved the same thing since Naruto was close to his boiling point with Nagato during that time. Can you imagine if it were Sasuke, Gaara or Iruka that were in Hinata's position? Naruto would've been fuming, lol At least Winry and Ed grew closer with each moment they had together. Not to mention the author didn't make a huge fuss about it like Kishi did. A lot of their interaction were just casual conversations with some humor thrown in. The only moment that was treated like a huge deal was Ed defending Winry from Scar but that scene served multiple purposes other than the romance like Scar's development as a character and Winry's backstory. By contrast, the Naruto/Hinata moments were constantly treated like a huge deal and were done specifically to bring them closer. Obito literally stopped his onslaught just so Hinata and Naruto could have their little moment even though he was very determined to break Naruto's spirit during the war and how nice of Nagato to actually let Hinata monologue for a bit when he was very determined to take Naruto at all costs as soon as possible prior to Hinata's intervention, lol The fact that Neji's death was brushed over in favor of the handholding scene is kinda messed up when you really think about it. Hinata barely even reacted to his death and only focused on Naruto's strong hand sends some pretty mixed messages. After these moments took place, the story acted like they never even happened because they kept going back to the same tired dense guy/shy girl jokes until the Last came to do same damage control and it didn't even do it that well but that's a discussion for another day. Like one pairing keeps moving forward while the other keeps making huge steps, but takes even bigger leaps backwards at the same time, you see what I'm saying? The fact that Winry could just say she's in love with Edward so nonchalantly as a teen while she fixes Ed's arm as he complains about it while Hinata was still a stuttering mess in front of Naruto as an adult in the Last even after her confession and their handholding during the war tells us everything we need to know. Also, the Last's very existence destroys your entire argument. If romance wasn't supposed to be a big deal, why was the final movie that focused on the original cast a romance? Kishi literally admitted to trolling the audience with the romance and had no plans for any of it. He just wanted easy clicks. It's not a case of whether these stories are romance or not, it's just that one had great development while the other did not while coming from the same genre, simple as that.

the real terrible part is when you read/watch part 1 and you can see kishimoto’s passion-- the established foundations for certain relationships are enjoyable and fleshed out. The whole thing is so messed up in many ways, and I'm going to explain what bothers me about Hinata, her stans and NaruHina ship. 1.) Hinata - This is personalized. I just can't like her. I tried to give her a chance and understand her, and I do feel sorry cause she was being abounded as a child in her clan, but that's it. People like to say she was always there for Naruto, but my question is where? If she cared that much, why didn't she approached to Naruto and became his friend. We all know Naruto was always seen as "monster" because of nine tails he had inside him, and that was why he had no friends in the beginning. I've seen people say things like; "She saved him from loneliness," but my question is where? She just stalked him and talked when it was necessary. 2.) Chunin exams - Okay, she tried to fight Neji, who she was afraid of. Cool, but what about supporting your teammate? People like to shit on Sakura for being "bad," but that girl cheered for Naruto and showed her support all the way. Hinata literally said; "I'd cheer for you Naruto, but I can't because of Kiba". I can understand where she comes from, but I still think that's sad because Hinata, Kiba and Shino are team and should've support each other and cheer during exam. I didn't see Hinata cheer for Kiba or Shino. That's just unfair and it just proves that you are a bad teammate. Update: I forgot to mention that she gave a healing cream to Naruto, who was doing fine but in background you can see Kiba being hurt and all. It's just rude and unfair. 3.) I'm disgusted that people like to bodyshame Sakura for being flat (as if it's bad thing) and people only like Hinata because of her big curves and her shy, kawaii personality. Of course not everyone likes Hinata for her breast size, but most people do. You can see any post related to Hinata's looks, and you'll see people say; "Better than flat Trashcan". 4.) People like to say how Sakura is useless because she "doesn't do anything". I agree that in the beginning she didn't do much, but during chunin exam arc, she cut her own hair which represents huge shift for her cause she decided to train to become stronger so she can protect those dear to her. She was trained by Tsunade, one of the best medical ninja's. If you watched Naruto, you know rules for medical ninjas; you don't go on fronts to fight because you are supposed to be the last person who dies because you heal for God's sake. I'm sure Sakura would go out and help Naruto and other fight if she wasn't medical ninja, but since she was, she couldn't. Hinata just decided to randomly jump in order to protect Nartuo, but no one thinks what consequences her actions could have. It could bring everyone present there in even more danger than they already were. Hinata could die there among with Naruto and others, so her sacrifice wasn't something "too powerful" in my opinion. 5.) Naruto and Hinata just don't make sense. I admit that I'm a huge Sakura stan and huge NaruSaku shipper, so my opinion can be more biased, but I can't believe that Naruto ended with Hinata. They barely interacted in all those 700 episodes just for you to get caught in some silly genjutsu and fall in love. It's unrealistic, especially since you loved Sakura for so long and Sakura slowly but surely started developing feelings for Naruto and plus Kishimoto's teasing us with the possible Canon ship. Next thing, Kushina told Naruto to find somebody like her and we all know Sakura is the only girl that fits that kind of standard (hot headed, short temper, anger issues,...) and plus again, Kishimoto doing so many references on compatibility of those two. Next, when you look aestheticly at Naruto and Hinata, she just doesn't fit. Naruto has more brighter colors and is loud, clumsy, goofy while Hinata is completely opposite; shy, dark colors and so on. You might think the opposite is attracting, but it's not always like that. Sakura, on the other hand is more like Naruto. When you look at them, especially in Shippuden, you can see how much close they got to each other and they are being goofy to each other and you can see appreciation for each other's. "But Sakura was always in love with Sasuke and lied to Naruto about her feelings". Okay, she had crush, but who can't guarantee that she didn't fell in love with Naruto later. Check out Chatte Georgiana's video "Why NaruSaku didn't happen" on this topic. She made amazing points about this. Sakura's approach to this might be controversial, but it was definitely coming from place of love. She didn't want Naruto to suffer physically and emotionally anymore in searching for Sasuke and she decided to be "hated" by Naruto rather than put him through pain even more. 6.) Neji's death. Neji is my number one favorite male character in Naruto and seeing him die didn't only break my heart, but it also didn't make sense, especially since he could dodge sticks with his rotation technique, but they had to kill him in order for Naruto and Hinata to get closer which is bullshit. Not to mention that Hinata was left as the only heir of Hyuga clan (Hanabi was too little to take such responsibility) and once she got married to Naruto, she basically abounded her clan. She didn't even tried to fix rules for branch and main side of clan and make it better. We all know Neji was always viewed as "less worth" just because of being part of branch side of Hyuga clan and a curse mark on his forehead. When you think about it, that might bring harm to future Hyuga generation who are part of branch side, so it just proves Hinata's carelessness about safety of her clan. Update: I forgot to mention how Hinata was thinking about Naruto's big, warm hand meanwhile your cousin died right in front of your eyes. It's so sad and disgusting. I know this is really long comment and if you read it all congratulations. I just want to say that regardless of whether you are NaruHina or NaruSaku shipper, you have to admit that the way Naruto and Hinata got together didn't make sense.

for the body shaming part, I won hundred percent agree. It does piss me off when they make jokes at Sakura’s chest size because who cares especially when 90% of the women in the series giant boobs which I might scared the hell out of me. Part of the reason I like sacral so much is because she isn’t the typical giant boobs. Bad ass but instead, just a simple, ordinary bad ass when Kishimoto isn’t being a dumb ass. I love girls with smaller boobs and it drives me nuts that unless the character is drawn like she’s 12 but actually she’s 300 years old because she’s a witch. The default for female characters is usually giant boobs.

I couldn't agree more on what you said and I am genuinely glad you see Sakura for whom she is and not for the image other people make for her and hate it. She could understand Naruto more on a deeper basis than Hinata and that is a fact. Hinata was delusional about her dreams of staying by Naruto's side, without doing anything interesting that could affect him much or the series. She was talented and was born from a powerfull family, but her talent didn't reach much potential because she was a side chick (side character). Sakura was unfortunate compared to Hinata, because despite her crush on Sasuke, he treated her like crap. And she was also the main character that got the most hate for just existing, now that was the real tragic sad thing. Not Hinata simping for Naruto.

That's because Naruhina was never meant to be... Plot and dynamic wise Naruto was written (yes, written! Because the anime changed so much stuff...) for Sakura to end up with Naruto. It is a triangle, where Sakura likes the "genius"\"cool" guy but eventually falls in love with Naruto who earns her affection ny showing his determination and unwavering love. Naruto story was supposed to be one from 0 to hero in all aspects of his life, including his love life, where it is shown that if you work at it you can earn the love of your life. But from death threats to Studio Pierrot distorting Sakura's character to favoring Hinata giving her scenes that never showed up in the manga (like amping on her sexyness even as a child with the dancing over water scene that is not cannon) to Studio Pierrot + Editors forbidding Kishimoto to delve into Sakura's character (he wanted to write an arc only for her journey) to Studio Pierrot+ Editors wanting to continue Naruto to Boruto (to which Kishimoto has nothing to do with exccept having his name associated with). Hinata was basically manipulated into becoming a vessel for his kids to have those weird ass eyes/okotsuki powers only for Boruto to exist. It is a retcon, much like "The last" and much like Kaguya (Madara was meant to be final villain ad it is foreshadowed from the beginning of the plot but hey if they defeated the big bad and all villages united where would there be conflict? So they had to pull Kaguya from their ass). So Kishimoto let his intended pairing be destroyed (sakura x Naruto), killed neji (when no else died and also when he had his 64 palm jutsu that could perfectly avoid those freaking sticks) and made a freaking retcon that completely denies the characters development and personality!!! It would have been so much better seeing Sakura get over Sasuke (which I believe she did and she loved Naruto because there are many scenes in the manga, during shippuden, where Sakura almost breaks when she thinks something will happen to Naruto, where she says she only worries about him and there js even the panel in the war arc where both Naruto and Sasuke will probably die and her image is over Naruto and Karin over Sasuke, and Sakura says "don't die on me, Naruto!!" soo...) and having Naruto realize all of his dreams (he always said he never goes back on his word and never gives up so he should be with his first love). They would have a beautiful relationship, filled with laughter, love, understanding and friendship. Sasuke should have died, in my opinion, or never return to Konoha (much like he does now) and be with Karin who understands his pain as a criminal and an Orochimaru pawn, and losing her clan, much like him. Hinata should reflect, after losing Naruto to Sakura on how she should fight to become more powerful and be in charge of the Hyuga Clan as the head (instead of becoming a mousy housewife) and be married to either Kibad or Shino who showed her support several times and were part of her team. This could also give more relevancy to these forgotten characters and let us a husband in a more supportive role having Hinata being the powerhouse. They could still make Boruto... They could lean into having Sakura and Naruto child learning the 100 seals and learn 8 gate and become a broken ninja that could use 8 gate to the max without harming his body (8 gate was what basically rivaled Madara in his final form). Have Sasuke repent and not have children (let the uchiha clan die with him) or have kids and hide them from the villages oe have them be a special op ninja that protected villages from the shadows. Have Hinata and her husband go to a tier beyond the byakugan they know and have kids that are raised free from the shackles of the branch families (master/servant relationship). They could still have Okotsuki... Maybe it would be such a great threat that the new generation could only keep them at bay and only an uchiha and byakugan child could fight them (like Hinata kid having a child with Sasuke kid) I think it would work so much better, especially because Hinata never loved Naruto, in my perspective. What she had was infatuation. She barely talked/interacted with him, she never knew him deep down... Sakura,however, grew up witth him, she was always there for him, she supported him, protected him, saved him and was the first to believe in him and defend him. That is real love. Hinata could grow into her own woman and become strong hearted and find a peaceful, supportive love. Now all these cannon couples are a hot mess... The only cannon couple that makes sense is Temari x Shikamaru. Even Ino how come she ended up with Sai? She always found him similar to Sasuke and handsome, her purpose was entirely superficial ... I always found more interesting for Ino to stay with Choji. She kept calling him pig and fat because she was always a very vain and superficial girl. I found it could be cool for her to overcome her appearance wise preferences and stay with Choji who is a sweetheart that was always there for her. And don't let me start on Orochimaru being allowed to ne a father and go around Konoha like he didn't do tons of underground and nefarious experiments on kids, either deforming or killing many in the process... Boruto is a mess... They only care for end results (powers) they have no care for coherence/plot/character growth + personality.

You hit the nail 100% on the head. After the Pain arc Hinata was decided to be the love interest for Naruto because the studio liked her. I honestly believe that's what lead to that horrible fake confession that made everyone pretty much hate Sakura afterwards. Because she had no one to be with at the end they just stuck her with Sasuke because they needed more kids for Boruto(which is like the Korra to the last air bender. Which ironically enough screwed up the end because ending couples the exact same way.) I have always liked Sakura as a character, and even though Kishimoto sucks at writing women; she did have an arc until it was completely undone because "Sasuke-Kun". Sakura was a shy girl who got picked on because of her forehead. When Ino helps her against bullies, she imitates Ino because she wants to be confident like her. A big part of the reason she likes Sasuke(something that people forget) is because he was the cool, popular guy that Ino liked. Its the reason she also grows her hair out just like Ino did, because Sasuke liked long hair. That's why it's so symbolic when she cuts her hair during her fight at the forest of death. It's a sign of her becoming more independent(something Ino later does). The same reason she keeps it short even after the time skip. in early shippuden she barely mentions or thinks about Sasuke unless its in relation to Naruto. People argue that she's useless(mainly people who favor Hinata) and while it's true that she needed more fights to be able to show her skills; as well as more training moments I chock that up to Kishimoto. She does a lot more during the Pain invasion than Hinata(all Hinata does is fight Pain, which is only one page in the manga, and only serves for Naruto to go Kyubii mode). Sakura was fighting Animal summons left and right and healing people. She also was also a great asset in the war as a fighter and medic. Anyway she was done a great disservice in the end when she ignores all the trauma, abuse, and murder attempts by Sasuke because he says "I'm sorry" gets a forehead poke and a "thanks" only to be abandoned again, and then abandoned a second time for 12 years when she had kid. It's a horrific message for for both the girls and boys who read/watched the manga/series. Shipping aside, Naruto and Sakura are entertaining to watch together. the canon couples are either boring or extremely problematic (except Shikamaru/Temari even thought, I honestly never liked Shikamaru all that much. I honestly don't know why). I feel like their home life would have been very funny to watch, and they wouldn't look as miserable as they look in Boruto.

It's honestly really sad. Hinata had so much potential as a character, not even just as a love interest, but as an iconic character within the franchise who a lot of people adored. Her showing at the Chunin exams was a huge surprise and really showed just how much potential she had, when given the proper motivation. Then she basically just got delegated to being a side character again whose only purpose was to simp over Naruto. Some of the part 1 filler did a decent job of propping her up for a bit, namely the episode where she creates the 64 palms defense; issue being that it's literally not even. The fact that she is now essentially just a background character in Boruto is especially egregious.

I like Naruto/Hinata from a concept perspective, though that’s mostly for part 1. It could work if built upon properly and having them interact and improve their relationship gradually. I think a lot of the issues with Hinata are from the lack of time being in the story. Aside from her crush on Naruto and her status in her clan, the dynamics of her relationship with her father and Neji, we really don’t know who Hinata is or what her goals and desires are. There’s so many directions they could have went with Hinata because she was virtually a blank canvas and what we ended up getting was (at least in my opinion) a doll whose sole purpose in life was to get the man she wanted and bear his children. A shy girl with emotional baggage with a crush on what was virtually public enemy number one outside of the Uchiha clan should have been if nothing else more interesting than what we actually have. It’s unfortunate because the Hinata in part one didn’t change any aside from the calendar to the Hinata in part 2. And after everything Naruto went through he gets a huge character regression to the point I don’t recognize my mans? The pairing I grew up wanting and the one that we got are not the same and it’s just so disappointing.

24:10 On the Hiashi thing, the father-daughter thing should have been addressed in shippuden, either in an arc for sorting the hyugas issue or in a life & death moment in the war arc. Or even become the main underlying theme of the Last movie. It would be great to see Hiashi change his stance and give way to Hinata, but because it is never addressed, his loving grandpa persona in boruto is a whiplash. Plus, i also think in real life, people's opinions change ad they grow. What you thiught was right in your teens might not be so in your twenties. If that is so, then we should give people a measure of leeway for gaining more experience, seeing a different perspective and changing their minds on the beliefs they had earlier on in life.

The funny thing is I actually like the naruhina ship, but everything you said is right. Theyre a forced ship with no cannon chemistry, they do not deserve to be endgame. I havent watched any boruto yet so I cant talk much on that, but your description of their relationship as adults hurts. 6:15 Also just a quick jump on the sakura hate train for a second, anything sakura did to keep people alive during the battle against pain was rendered irrelevant when nagato brought all the dead back to life. Longtime Naruto fan here I remember being a tiny boy on the playground talking to my friends about the debut episode of Naruto and I never stopped loving the series ever since... until Kaguya I guess. The Neji dying thing is something I'm pretty mixed on. I really don't like it as a a forced scene for the sake of the NaruHina relationship. It was already a heartbreaking moment with feelings I still process, but the suggestion it's just for Hinata's socially disabled ass makes me sick. Neji giving his life for the young man who taught him that fate is bendable was so perfect for me. It's no longer that when it's about Hinata.

It had a lot of Naruhina moments and Hinata is a badass in those filler episodes, she's not "just a bland" character as you describe her as. This video got me think about Sessrin and how their relationship is handled. I’m not really familiar with the Naruto franchise, but I have heard about its poorly handled representation of its females characters. For the way the Naruhina ship is described is pretty messed up, in compare with Sessrin, Rin is mostly around Sesshomaru for the majority of her screen time yet was given a background which explains her reasoning & was given autonomy by Sesshomaru himself. It’s just a shame Yashahime didn’t explore their relationship more or that the sequel just went from a show with potential to a disappointing & infuriating sequel. Thank you. I never saw the appeal of NaruHina. It was nothing but a childhood unrequited love on Hinata's part. Naruto never showed interest in her. She was just another face in the crowd. Her personality was loving Naruto, and that’s just sad and pathetic. Hinata could have had potential to grow if she would have let go of her stupid crush on Naruto. Instead of doing things to get him to notice her, why didn't she do things for herself? Just like how she saw Naruto grow and build himself up, she could have done the same for herself. But no, it was just "N-Naruto kun" and faint. She didn't grow as a character at all, and was rewarded for doing absolutely nothing. I would say that they are couples that made for an interesting dynamic, but the story that wanted to be told did not allow for that, necessarily many things had to change as well as the direction of the story for them to be credible, especially Sasuke who reaches a point sees himself as the final boss to defeat and see how the path of revenge consumed him completely, and only a tragic end awaits what was once team 7.

You are spitting FACTS with this one! While this ship definitely isn't as toxic/problematic/etc. as Sasusaku, it honestly bothers me WAY MORE because it has just no development until The Last. And if you NEED a (bad) movie to create and justify the ship, there's a problem. At least Sasusaku was a consistent possibility from the beginning, even if Sakura definitely SHOULD have moved on considering... everything. Personally the fact that Naruto and Hinata interact for less than 50 pages out of a 700 chapter series AND she literally confesses to him only for him to forget and never address it tells me everything I need to know. And then after their "bonding moment" at the cost of Neji's life he STILL calls Sakura his girlfriend? Yeah, no. You're so right about the character assassination in The Last, too. Naruto KNEW what love was and they really had to retcon that to make their terrible ship work? They couldn't have just had him either confess to Sakura and get rejected, or move on after seeing she'll always love Sasuke? It would have been EASY to end the lingering thread of Naruto's feelings for Sakura, but they chose the worst most stupid option possible. Dunno if you're familiar with Bleach, but Studio Perriot had a similar bias with that one where it favored Rukia and Ichiruki at the expense of Orihime and Ichihime. And Ichihime was canon in the end (which upset a lot of anime-only fans since the studio had really tried to downplay it), but it ended up being Naruhina done WAY right IMO. Hinata was irrelevant to the end while Orihime slowly progressed from a side character crushing on Ichigo to the main heroine fighting the final battle at his side. Tite Kubo stuck to his original plan (Ichihime was obvious in the pilot chapter that got the series officially greenlit!), and the majority of fans knew which ships were coming. It's only the ones clinging to a ship and story dynamic that had faded out 300+ chapters ago that were salty. We'll never know if it's true that Naruhina/Sasusaku was the original plan or just a bad excuse by Kishimoto. I honestly hope it's the latter, because I'd prefer to think he had to cave from pressure from his editors and "fans" than to think his writing was THAT BAD. The endgame ships should never be a plot twist - that's the one thing readers need to see development for. And Narusaku, the "red herring", got ALL the development. It had flaws but it would have made sense as canon which is more than I can say for what we got instead.

Unpopular opinion: most (if not all) romance in Naruto kinda sucks. Some to a medium, some to an extreme degree. I would much rather there weren't any pairings and we finished the series sometime after the war, no significant timeskips involved. Perhaps that moment when Naruto and Sasuke say their goodbyes once again, with Sasuke embarking on another journey and with audience not knowing how any of future relationships will turn up, but feeling hopeful that they all will likely find their happy endings. Whatever those might be.

If that's not getting kicked out idk what is. Maybe she lived in the compound after she was kicked but we see her training outside of the compounds until her palms bled in her backstory, so we don't know it for sure, but living in the compound is probably worse for her considering Hiashi. Neji in his fight mentions her past trauma as "mental and physical suffering" so she was probably beaten day in and out as a child by Hiashi too, which probably do explain why she's acting like an abuse victim.

It's because kishimoto didn't plan on naruhina and he basically said as much... The minato one shot last year had at least 3 references to sakura and naruro. Every manga kishimoto has done apart from naruto has someone like sakura and his twin is the same way and it isn't for no reason... Apart from several hints on sakura and naruto and the comparisons to sakura and chichi the whole love triangle is very similar to one in dai no daibouken. Except in dai no daibouken the hinata parallel got rejected and sasuke's parallel rejected sakura's while sakura and naruto's relationship is left as the obvious conclusion... So in my view kishimoto simply went for something he didn't want to do because he thought sakura was too unpopular to keep as naruto's love interest. Of course in naruto he ignored hinata his parallel straight out rejected her and screamed his love for sakura's parallel

Personally, I support narutoxshikamaru. Granted, I don’t think he was necessarily gay, but I would lean towards Shikamaru being bi or asexual with his general lack of sexual interest in people (except Temari) and him finding women troublesome and only saying he wants a wife and two kids as his duty and what’s expected of him as clan head and is less troublesome than a non-typical relationship. I think of everyone with good chemistry; it would be these two. Shikamaru never mistreated naruto and included him in games as children, even asking his dad why the adults treated Naruto badly. Moreover, I think out of all the characters, Shikamaru was one of the first to believe naruto could be Hokage and was even willing to support/aid him in achieving his goal. Not to mention them bonding with each other over the deaths of their senseis. Them being there for and supporting each other when they needed it. I think it would be understandable for interest and a relationship to grow between the two. Not to mention them working together as adults in the Hokage tower could strengthen/stabilize their relationship, as compared to any other couple where being Hokage/busy working all the time could create a wedge in a relationship. They also fill in each other gaps, with naruto pushing Shikamaru, and Shikamaru being the voice of reason on things naruto may have overlooked/forgotten.

Lets just be honest here, every couple in Naruto spare maybe Shikamaru and Temari, is poorly written. Kishimoto is absolutely terrible at writing relationships between characters.

Girl I get that Neji dying was tragic, but if it wasn’t for pressure from editors this would’ve been the reality: - Sasuke and Sakura don’t even exist as characters (Kishimoto originally pitched a manga with just Naruto, Kurama, Hinata, Iruka, Kakashi, Gaara and Shikamaru). Hinata wasn’t meant to be a kunoichi but just a love interest. Editors suggested Sakura for a love triangle story and Sasuke as an arch rival, then shifted the love triangle to team 7. - Neji dies in the Kidomaru fight - Rock Lee dies in the fight with Gaara - Kurama as the final villain (the tailed beasts were made up later and no Akatsuki before Sasuke was included) Kishi had no clue what to do with Neji after the Kidomaru fight. By the time we reach the shinobi war arc and then the fight with Kaguya, the whole story is very very different and all about the clans. Naruto and Hinata had to get together not because of romance, but to move the story forward. If Naruto had a child with Sakura it would have been a nerf for the whole verse due to how the power system works. Which is why I find that it would have been best if Sasuke had a kid with Karin and Sakura had one with Lee. An Uchiha/Uzumaki kid and an 8 gates + 100 seals kid would’ve deffo boosted the verse (+ would have made for a better relationship dynamic for Sakura). But I think Kishi paired Sakura and Sasuke because I remember him mentioning in the past that he based Sasuke off himself and Sakura off his wife (as well as Naruto and Hinata off his brother and sister-in-law). Or something like that. So his wife would’ve been fuming if the two had different partners 😅

Hinata reminds me of Marinette Dupain Cheng, from a show called Miraculous Ladybug. She stalks Adrien, her crush in the same way Hinata was doing for Naruto, which honestly I find relatable, but it came across as simping and it wasn't a good thing. While I do find Hinata sexy, hot and strong I still think Sakura was actually brave enough to put up with people hating on her, rather than submitting to the male gaze and what guys want like Hinata did. She refused to be just a fanservice and have guys dehumanize her. And only Sasuke noticed that. Sakura was given little credit for what she did for Naruto, despite having her own relationship with Sasuke. She was trained by Tsunade for fucks sake. And she was just as hardworking as Hinata was. But was still overhated contrast to Hinata, who was overrated by Hinata fans. Hinata's character is closer to Sasuke's personality, because they both are introverted and she wasn't an extrovert person like Naruto was or as social as Sakura was.
