REDESIGNING Starter Fakemon FROM MY FANS!

Hi, I’m the artist who made the starter line that MrBonnyJohn redesigned. Let me say how thankful I am that I was able to get this opportunity to have my design critiqued by someone who had been doin this for way longer than I have. Thank you DeadBedSpread for making this video and thank you MrBonnyJohnny for giving me some valuable criticism that I can use on future designs!

​@@Mikethekappa299Yeah that was my biggest disappointment too. It's an entirely different pokemon. I didn't get Bonny's reasoning either, pokemon get man made objects on evo all the time. Abra, Grookey, Fennekin, and Timbur just to name a few. It being "just not pokemon" dosent make any sense.

​@@matthewdykeman8149The worst part was the final evo not even looking like a Pirate Captain, for one, it wasn't even an octopus, for two, and the entire design, name and all, screams "OC donut steel" with a professional finish, for three. It doesn't even look like it's part of the same line, it's just wildly different. And frankly, the changes to the dex throughout makes it sound like it evolves through UNhappiness, followed by beating a bunch of others of it's line like Bisharp needs to become Kingambit, which would make it a pretty trash starter. And all that after talking about how dark didn't mean bad, too...

I love that each of them also have some motif that *could* be aligned with day/night cycle as well: Witches are more known for being out during night; a wolf that chases the sun; pirates are usually portrayed to raid at night; and most rock/metal concerts can last all day and sometimes night. A Time themed quartet- by accident!

Very strong designs for each artist. The Bulgaclipse line looks like it transitions from one culture's mythical Sun wolves to another; it starts out Fenrir-like and ends up looking like Amatateratsu the wolf sun god from Japan mythology. I don't don't know if Froopy had that on his mind at all, but that's an additional bit of unintended depth to the design.

I don't want to spoil anything in the video so I won't say much but I love the direction that was taken with the fakemon I made and it was really interesting seeing my fakemon which took more inspiration from the earlier gens with the more monstrous designs and more general basis be turned into something that takes more inspiration from more modern pokemon designs. It was also fun seeing all the redesigns of the other pokemon to and I really liked scrolling through the original post to see all the pokemon other people had made. In the future I'll aim to work on the critiques that were made in the video as this was a big inspiration to me. Thank you for this opportunity and I hope you all good luck on future endeavors.

I just love love love Abyssarmed's design. I think Bonny nailed the typical progression of a "starter line": how it goes from cute baby to slightly modified "teenager" middle stage and then makes a massive jump from there to its final form. HOWEVER: the one (and only) critique I have for Abyssarmed is actually its name. Idk if Abyssarmed really captures it. I would have called it something along the lines of "Plundraken" (Plunder + Kraken) or "Kraquell" (Kraken + Quell). Basically, just something with Kraken in the name. Haha.

I love how the different artists bring something characteristic to themselves. Reoma brings a humble personality and is the closest to the Sugimori style that's expected. Froopy brings his own personality and sorry not sorry but the way he designs his dynamic poses is unbeatable. Bonny brings a jolly personality and even though his art style is the farthest from the Sugimori style, I think it's a great thing to differentiate his art style that way, and also the way he weaves a story concept into literally everything I've seen so far from him. And DeadBedSpread is the main man. Great sense of humour and great art. I appreciate each and every person involved in the video. Kudos!

Definitely one of your best traditional videos and I like all the redesigns. With over 100 entries you should definitely make it series so people can get more than one chance, although definitely bit shorter. Maybe each video could correspond to a type and maybe a video based off pokemon archetypes. Besides that my favorite is probably the water type. Good job to all of you.

I'll admit that timing was a hurdle I did not expect, although when you consider that we not only showed off our own Fakemon, but also a line by each of the wonderful artists, it made sense that we'd have 20 minutes on average each instead of the expected 15 - but I'll keep it in mind for next time!

I imagine Hidden Ability is Fog of War. When the Pokémon enters battle, using smoke screens it acts as intimidate but it lowers the accuracy of opposing Pokémon.

I do think that last line was meant to be more of a sports theme, like Cinderace than a music theme like Rillaboom, but I understand the reasoning. (Fun fact I thought there would be a razorback in Galar because pig iron was invented in the UK, and it made sense doing at least a two-stage steel pig Pokemon, so it's fun seeing that here in both itterations.) I also think the first form was supposed to be a base or something like that, but I don't think the dex entry made that super clear.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL OF THEM! Such amazing and creative designs! If these were a real set for a game, they would be super balanced for popularity. While I love them all, I think I would choose of the water starter. I'm typically not drawn towards the water types (I'm a grass type guy usually), but the Swabubb line feels so smooth and the colouring the the concept is very intriguing. Bosunder gives me the vibe I wanted Quaxly to turn into. Lol.

I like how it's kinda like the water starter is humanoid, the grass starter is semi-humanoid and the fire starter is non-humanoid also there is kinda the theme of water is masculine, grass is feminine and fire is neither and finally (this is a stretch) there is a 'liquid' element to them all, the grass' poison, the water's ink and the fire's...fire (it kinda looks like paint to me idk what to say).

Abyssarmed should have a special move called ink blunder where it gains accuracy by closing its eye and filling a bubble with ink and firing it at high speeds when the opponent is hit they're accuracy is reduced for 1 turn

While I love the redesign of Abyssarmed, I think that its design doesn’t have any design elements that remind me of captains or pirates. Its design reminds me most of XLR8 from Ben Ten. It looks futuristic and fast, like a scyther. 54:00 It would have been fun too keep the special mop theme by giving it a white tentacle beard. The shape language of its previous evolution could have easily transitioned its hat into a pirate hat. Also, why not keep the ship-sinking lore? It lost its kraken motif :( 54:20

Vhiragolm, that signature move sounds epic, poison type special move, that sleeps an opponent. Each turn theyre alseep. They take a tick of poison damage. And have it work the same as sleep does. With the max possible three turns of damaging sleep. Love this as an idea. To end, ive watched the whole video now, i absolutely love these starters and evolutions. Theyre incredible. In fact probably better than most of gamefreaks creations we all love. Hope one day i get to make the hard choice between these four, and then trade for them all amongst my friend via a link cable. 😅 Hopefully ill have more than two friends. Great video 🤌👍

The fire, water, and grass starters truly make an almost perfect starter trio in my opinion. They're all connected through the sun and round objects. Albeit it's a pretty loose connection to the sun with the water starter, but pirates/sailors did use the positioning of the sun and stars to navigate at sea. Then all the final evos involve some kind of round objects in their design. The berry, the gemstones, and the ink-filled water balls. They also have a nice secondary type triangle to even them out. It's wonderful. The only issue I have is with their stats, cause they're all special attackers with mid speed. Which doesn't really work cause usually each starter has a different specialty... But at the end of the day they're all super cool and I'd use all of them. Just 10/10 all around, but I'd probably choose Abyssarmed as my first choice. I've always leaned more toward water starters, and I just love the creative use of the tentacles, the storyline of the evos, and how dark and sleek it turns out in the end.... You guys are amazing artists and I'd love to see this kind of video again. You've got plenty of submissions to work with too, so it's already kinda set up too lol

Oh and I absolutely love Snoutrage too. The whole punk rocker metal vibe is right up my alley. And while he looks tough and badass, you can tell he's just a fun dude who wants to rock. And normal/steel is an awesome typing that's never been used. Sadly it gets a 4x fighting weakness, but it also gets 2 immunities and a whopping 10 resistances. Meanwhile adaptability and punk rock are kinda broken abilities for it, cause normal already hits everything but rock and steel neutrally. So with the stab and the ability boost it pretty much hits most types for practically super effective damage. Then it's steel type takes care of rock types. All it needs is a decent coverage move for steel types really, and I could definitely see it getting a fighting type move somewhere.... So it's both cool and broken af, I love it... I could see it getting banned from vgc. Sure it's got a 4x weakness, but pair it with a fast flyer to set up tail wind and it could probably just sweep 🤷

4 starters would be pretty easy to put into a game too. Like just make it so you can either get a traditional starter from the lab, or get the normal type starter as a gift from your parent or something... Could even do like a better Norman situation, where the first gym leader is your parent and once you beat him you can trade your starter for a rare normal type starter

All of these are awesome! Personal pick for the starter would be grass. I dig the design soo much. Honestly, they are all good. I just vibed with grass the most. I could tell that Froopy was a little concerned that he made his final evolution a bit too majestic, if that was a concern, i could easily see it being moved into the pseudolegendary slot. Its great.
