Redesigning Taro Yamada! ♤ || Yandere Simulator Revamp

The idea of turning the fact that Taro is often called "Boring" into part of his backstory is very creative. I wonder if turning the concept into the characters past would help with my redesigns. One character I'm currently working on a redesign for is someone who's been infantilized HARD in their media and I'm really struggling with it.

You could try making that a part of their backstory and turning it into motivation for them to yearn to want to be taken seriously and them "acting their age" Like for instance a way you could physically show they don't want to be infantalized is dressing more maturely, or their age, or using big words and trying to speak clearly and confidently but still slipping up every now and then and acting a little closer to their actual age if they are still a teen or around that age Or them pouting when someone baby's them, always reminding someone of how old they are . Just some thoughts you don't have to use them if you don't want

The main thing I dislike about the original character being infantilized is that they're mentally disabled, they're likely dyslexic since they have problems with words in general. Perhaps their dyslexia caused them to be treated like a child, and they'll attempt to use big words but their dyslexia caused them to either use the wrong words or mispronounce said word. This could actually play into how many characters are attracted to him. since taro tries his best to stay out of the "boring" archetype and participate in a lot of things, he would obviously meet some people along the way that now play as the game's "rivals"

glorious re-design!! but I feel that Taro (even if he's awkward) has something else that makes girl fell in love with him. Jokichi was a flirty guy in the 1980s mode so that's why he attracted so many girls. I feel like Taro has a charm to talk to girls that made girls feel heard and treasured so I think that's why girls want to be with him because lets be honest who wouldn't like a guy who treats you respectfully and important???

I do really like the idea of Taro being kind and compassionate. If I were to rewrite Taro, I would have him be gentle and soft since he kind of embodies some of those characteristics. And for his physical characteristics he would have light sky blue eyes to portray the softer side to his character. I also think that in this way he is the exact opposite of Ayano because he is someone who is genuine and cares for others. Him being gentle, sweet, and selfless is what would draw characters to him because then he would have a somewhat unique personality that people naturally gravitate towards. And also, him being conventionally (or unconventionally) attractive is what would make the rival characters falling for him be more realistic. Since Taro already likes reading so much I can see him almost having a book obsession and hanging out in the library and being constantly stuck in his own world. He wouldn’t be the most observant person around because he’d either have his head stuck in the clouds (daydreaming) or he’d be reading a book. And this personality flaw with him being somewhat of a daydreamer would help Ayano get away with a lot of things in the game. Those are some of the changes to his character that I would make if I were to rewrite Taro, feel free to add your own input!

I actually prefer the idea of Ayano being rather emotionless and faking her personality. It makes her more unique than other Yandere's and doesn't inherently make it inaccurate to the definition. She can still put up a sweet and bubbly front that drops when shes alone or about to take out a rival

His hair looks so soft! I like the use of his boring past to explain why he’s in so many clubs. Plus his history and general politeness would explain why so many people are drawn to him as a love interest. Taro getting involved in specific hobbies would give a bouncing off point for any crush to latch on to. Clever!

These designs all look amazing so far!! Your style is really pretty! The only criticism I would have for this design is that with the kind of awkward, self-conscious personality you gave him, the open collar and the chill, kinda confident pose aren't really fitting. Like, the vibe I get from the design is a lot different than the vibe I get from the personality you've given him, if that makes sense. If I'm misinterpreting the character or missing the reason you designed him that way, feel free to correct me! Other than that, this redesign is great, and I love the spin on the archetype he's based on! This looks amazing!

I think his personality is so unflattering. I mean, awkward people can be frustrating. I mean, they’re already judging themselves, and you pick up on that vibe of them judging themselves, and then you can’t get along with them. But anyway, I think he’s cute. Maybe I’d distribute the green in his hair a little better, or maybe I'd choose a different shade because green symbolizes growth, and maybe I’d make his hair a bit longer.

I think the only thing I would change about the style would be the thickness of things if that makes sense. Like, I think making this neck and limbs thicker would make it look more proportionate but having said that I do like your style and you should only change it if you want to

I think adding something pink related wherever it being in drama or gardening club accsesorys i dont know much about color theory but i know pink makes blue eyes/anythingbluetbh stand out its how i do my makeup in the morning and i like how i look but who knows 🤷‍♂

I don’t get the whole uniform for college thing. Like you said in your last video you live in New Jersey. (Correct me if I’m wrong and I live there to unfortunately) So I’m extremely confused about it. But, if this takes place in the US and has uniforms for convenience. I think it should have been altered more. As a example maybe take off the blazer (The thing that is over the shirt) and roll up the sleeves, to convey that he likes to get his hands dirty since he likes plants. I like the apron but I don’t know why there are colors blotches on it I thought it would be dirt. The color blotches conveys he likes to paint. I do like the hair and why it is dyed the color. Oh and like a commenter I seen said about the pose should be more awkward than confident. Other than that I like the art style, it’s pleasing to the eye. With the black hair male lead curse: Another good example of a character who breaks this design convention, Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney. His haircut and silhouette are very recognizable.

Your artstyle is so nice, happy I ran into this series! Absolutely love redesigns, haha. Commented that before I even reached the part where you said you were unsure about it-- if I had to say one thing, it may just be the lack of art from you I've seen in two videos, but you do seem to have a bit of same-face syndrome. In the Ayano redesign video when you put her side by side with your sona their similarity in face shape stuck out to me immediately, and you can see it a bit here with Taro, though his inner facial structure (thicker lips, for example) did make them feel more different.

Some criticism for your art (though I do genuinely really like it and your style I’m more on anatomy wise) the pose looks very stiff. Considering his personality in the drawing I think works a lot better, there’s not a lot expressed in it which kinda gives a bland look. As well as the torso is to short and the neck is very thin / tiny, obviously this can work but it looks disproportionate. if you wanted to go for that look I’d suggest exaggerating features more. As well, the line on it doesn’t look quite right? As well, the legs look a bit off, I think this could be how the pants are tight on the upper half then lower are more free form, which doesn’t give the look of intentional but rather off. The hand poses are also really awkward and off, this might be playing into the fact you stated (I think) his personality typically does awkward poses in photos, but I think that’s lost by a straight on look into the viewers eyes. This is mostly just remarking there’s not a lot expression in this specific art work, over all I do like your style! Again, nothing I say I is concrete and just my two cents, although you did ask for advice I hope this is some how helpful!

The lines on the cheese mixed with the pose makes him feel like a doll. The cheeks is honestly personal preference, I do think it looks interesting but idk if it's what you're going for, but you should practice posing not looking static. (I am not trying to be rude or assume I'm better at art than you, I hate drawing poses personally, but you asked for constructive criticism)

What I think is the way he acts in the game I would think he was more family oriented if he was doing something like calling his sister a certain times idk, but one of the reason I find him boring is that his design was flat ( at least to me) I really can't pick up anything of substance from his design. I also find that what he does in the game really is borig. I mean I could see him being introverted and stuff like that, I just wish yandere div would put a little bit more effort into him. All and all I really like your redesign and well the upgraded story.
