Update: Fold money solved the core problem where credit card transactions were not being shown in the transaction list on 25th July (2 days) after I uploaded this video. Very happy to see it. However the entire video is still valid where I clean up the UI and make it more simpler to users to comprehend the information.

Awesome content Chetan. You have made the job of redesigning very simple and structured and it has reduced my fear for designing apps and provided an ample knowledge on how to approach a design assignment. Love the way you organise the workspace and link the goals. Thanks for the videos.

The number of iterations and the attention to detail you put into this design is truly impressive. It's clear that creating such a mature and thoughtful design takes a significant amount of time. When dealing with multiple screens, your experience undoubtedly allows you to work faster than those who have recently started in the field, especially when facing deadlines. This is such a brilliant video as always.

This is what a true product designing is, you nailed that explanation by covering fundamentals to showing iterations and the challenges users will face. Need more people, mentor, design manager, colleague and the recruiter like you in the design industry, who truly understands and teaches "The Product Designing". Thank you chethan for always coming up with such a great content ❤

At 27:48 you separated the tapping action to card and '2,768 due for June 2024 >' as a user I won't feel like there is any difference to tap on card or tapping on the previous due amount, I feel that both will perform the same action. I think by adding some colour separation can be helpful. PS: Later on, saw you already did that 😅 Really Like your content 👍

29:08 Even I liked the option 2 much better that option 1, as a user it instantly removes my cognitive load by seeing the current month expense. Additionally, I for 'due action' would have changed the font colour to rose red/any shade of red.

41:26 how about placing the calendar icon on the right of the month i.e. july 2024, as those information are inter related, correct me if i'm wrong, please
@DesignPilot6 ай бұрын
We could. But we are using the top navigation to have all action items across the app. So I decided to keep it on the top right to maintain consistency

30:10 Okay. Let's say there's a scenario where a user only pays the minimum amount due on the last date of the bill, so after that particular date, there is going to be a billed due amount and an unbilled outstanding amount, and in that particular case ( which happens a lot with many users ) the option 2 might not be the perfect solution ( my point of view as a user ), reason being I don't want to calculate the total, also another scenario ( this happens a lot with me ) I pay the total outstanding amount rather than just paying the billed amount to clear out all the dues and that directly visible total amount actually makes it a lot easier for me to quickly know whether or not I can clear the whole amount or just the billed at that point of time based on my balance ( which I'm aware of 99% of the time ). This is purely from a user pov and not a designer. Also i might be a liitle biased here since I'm used to One card ( they follow the first method for showing total outstanding ) along with remaining due amount ( in case of partial/minimum due payment). Edit: I haven't watched the video after 30:15 ( have to go out ) so I'm not aware if you've mentioned about this. Will watch the remaining part after a while.
@DesignPilot6 ай бұрын
Can you send me a screenshot of how it’s displayed?
@ankushpanda99116 ай бұрын
For the first won't the outstanding amount be same as unbilled amount as you have cleared all the dues and then the section in the card will be hidden. Ans for the second case I think chetan has mentioned in the video that he is taking the assumption that you cannot pay the outstanding amount anytime only you can pay it monthly when bank statement comes
@jiteshchoudhary31136 ай бұрын
@@ankushpanda9911 For the 1st scenario: Nope. Outstanding is going to be different than billed here ( not every time, but only if there is any spending in the next month, which seems to be the case most of the time. ) Explanation: Let's say your bill is 2000, when your bill arrives you're then given an option to either pay it in full, pay minimum due, or pay in EMI ( spending of more than 2.5k can be converted ( that's applicable in 3 of my cards ) ). So if I just pay the minimum due, then the outstanding will be: My current due ( or say last month total due - minimum paid ) + spending of this month. Now for the second case, can you share the time stamp where Chetan mentioned that he assumed that you can only pay your outstandings after the bill is generated.
@ankushpanda99116 ай бұрын
@@jiteshchoudhary3113 Ohh i understood the case 1 now 😅😅. In this case won't you think that the credit card details page will provide the details you are looking for? As the information you are looking for will be properly presented in that page.
@jiteshchoudhary31136 ай бұрын
@@ankushpanda9911 Now as per your point, okay. But as Chetan mentioned that you cannot pay your bill via the fold money app ( so having this feature doesn't even make much sense, I agree with that but since they do have this, which is the whole point of this video ), the question now becomes how many clicks to get the info in minimal clicks, and for that I believe that there's just a limited information which a user wants to know about their credit card, so having it on the main screen might be a better solution ( not a research / data based fact, just my personal view )
@rohiitchoudhary6 ай бұрын
40:38 i belive that removing that feature completely doesnt makes sense, we could have customised it a bit, as people can pay bills early like in a case where they want to make a big transcation and they do not have enough limit left on the card (it could occur maybe due to the overall limit only or the credit utilization factor) so in this case they might clear off the current month's due accordinly, whats your take on this?
@DesignPilot6 ай бұрын
Possible. Like I said, it was just an assumption that people don’t use that feature a lot. At the end of the day if the use case does exist, they would use their current method of making a credit card bill payment first in which ever app they use first. So fold money wouldn’t really come into the picture in step 1. We could easily add an entry point in the main card for sure. But I don’t think it’s a very big use case

Hey chetan , one doubt. I can understand design is subjective that some will say apps like cred and fold money designs are too much and not nice and others will say it's super cool , it's very hard to measure the data on these area but when that design is not rigid enough to solve the underlying core problems and creates confusion don't you think it's time to redesign it completely to accommodate for scalability and easy to use ? what would you do in such scenario ? Also what if most of the people tells design is not good but the underlying problem is solved and the our targeted users are doing fine without encountering any issues , as a product designer what would you do here ?
@DesignPilot6 ай бұрын
Good question. Most products go through a redesign at a point for the very purpose of scalability. Well, I don't think designers would be okay with just a functional design. Others might be happy if the product is functional but not the design. But that doesn't mean anything because if you're a designer, your job is improve the design no matter what.

Hey brother, is this a valid and used pattern in android apps? a global header or top app bar with a constant search button, and next to it, contextual icon buttons that change based on the page or destination the user is in.

We've often heard that "we are not the users" but in many cases, being a user helps design in a more mature way. In this case, it felt like the designer had no experience using credit cards and may not have understood how things around them work. Don't you think a designer who has used similar products or services is in a better position to design effectively?
@DesignPilot6 ай бұрын
A doctor may not have all the diseases and illnesses his patients have had. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to diagnose and offer a solution to the patient. Similarly if you don’t have experience, it’s your job as a designer to understand the experience. Experience it yourself or talk to users and understand. That’s UX research no? Just just because you don’t know something doesn’t mean it’s you design whatever comes to your mind. It’s not an acceptable excuse.

was the person who designed this in the first place high or something? Every time i look at this I am filled with anger ...forget thinking about complex UX or product thinking, they suck at basic craft of use of icon, typography, heirarchy, information architechture and colors and just common sense...who is hiring and paying such people while i stuggle to get a job in the industry? while I can do 100x time better than this person...the design hiring in india is messed up. The person who designed this needs to be fired and the least the company can do is develop some understanding on how to differenciate between a good and bad designer.
