This is an absolute masterpiece. My instantly favorite from an album of wonderful songs. Flea's staccato/muting bass style is as new as phenomenal. Never heard it by him in the past. Nothing to say about John's solo: I'm in awe. Challenges the Empyrean in a more RHCP way. I just can't wait to hear it live. Oh, Anthony's vocals are good as they've never been.
@NautilusGuitars2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can't believe more people aren't talking about this bass part. It's an entirely new style of playing. I'm a pretty proficient bass player and have been digging into the most obscure players for 15 years to find people who are doing something entirely unique. For it to be Flea, one of my long-time favorites, is just amazing to me. And like you said, it's different for flea. But that's what makes him so great. He can switch it up and still stay on the ball, like he did when he suddenly started playing with a pick. The rest of the song is killer, but man, flea might have invented an entirely new style of playing and to do that today is nearly impossible. But he did it. I just love how twitchy and weird and behind beat it is, while still being in the pocket. It's got that perfect J-Dilla "drunk" feel. Then how strange the note progression is while still being locked in melodically. Only Flea can do the weirdest thing possible while still being entirely grounded in the rhythm melody. The guy is a true powerhouse.
@matteobonichi28432 жыл бұрын
@@NautilusGuitars yeah man, I'm a bass player myself and what shocked me the most about this one is that is almost ENTIRELY played with this technique. Is not a bridge or a musical interlude. Is the bassline that drives the track. Interesting the J Dilla comparison, because I think Flea took a lot of inspiration to write it, at least from a rhythm standpoint, from early hip hop artists. He and John are notorious fans and listeners of people like Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, NWA ecc. J Dilla is even quoted by Anthony in a song from the previous album I can't really point my finger on now (Detroit maybe?). Absolutely brilliant anyways.

So happy John is back. I’ve waited for this album for so long, and I’m so so so happy we can hear it now.

Pra mim a melhor do álbum. Esse riff do Frusciante quando ela vai pro refrão na segunda parte, pqp. Muito foda!

Frusciante brings the best out of this band. The soul of RHCP. Love this song.
