Of course, planning works. Central planning doesn't.

Well, the Chinese do it. The trick they figured out is that micromanagement does not work. And China is beating the pants off us.

I’m not a genius. But i can spot one when i see one. And there he is: Prof. Hayek. He speaks softly but the walls of the room are shaking.

What was bought, was people in places, not ordered like chess, but kings everywhere. All pieces expendable, except the kings. That game is changing. Time will do its work.

7:11 this is a common problem among humans. Most think they are better than the next. On the surface it seems true to many. But this may be because we don't experience what others have experienced. When one has been living with much free time to learn and explore, and has been taught good habits by another....then after 20 years they look at the world around them and say to themselves "how can those people be so foolish?" They often don't realize all the factors that got them to where they are, and the factors that shaped other people. Freedom and protection of life liberty and property are possibly the most important factors. So when "the elite" think they need to control the world, maybe they should consider the world will take care of itself if we all agree to only protect the individual rights of Life Liberty and Property. This will then allow creativity and talents to rise above, paving the way to a better world for all. Without tyranny and wasteful theft, and requiring people to be responsible for themselves, the incentives align that encourage but not force people to cooperate with each other. People will have the time to create. Naturally some will appear to squander their time but this is for them to decide, and they will have to face the outcome which may or may not be bad. Those that make terrible choices will mostly fade away, and the wise will continue on....leading to a stronger more adaptive society. The stronger the society, the more people can and will help those in need.

"Living" is the key word in "greatest living economist". Ludwig von Mises topped them all.

Another great example of crude government over reach in Germany is the shutting down of nuclear power stations by the interventionary left and greens. The manipulation of the energy market as a whole with gross intervention in the form of high taxes and fees, energy bottle necks, social polarisation,

you left out Global Oligarchs controllinf the world. Corporate greed the culprit that's enriching the rich and taking from middle class and poor everyday and getting worse each day. Meanwhile the world's billionaires are shifting their wealth by the trillions to offshore accounts to avoid taxation. The world is heading for economic collapse and possible and likely WWIII due to economic inequality.

I have a question here. As Rene Girard has pointed out, most desires are not innate but given from outside. A person sees someone eating an ice cream cone and now desires an ice cream cone. But at a larger level through advertising and coercion, peoples desires are controlled. So it becomes predictable. I would say that a controlled economy is the control of human desire. This is what makes for the opposite of a true free economy and it appears that the latter is not a reality. Is there a way of it?

Hayek and Friedman certa8nly put us on the road to serfdom. The embrace of markets and the ascendance of capital and corporations is immiserating the future.
