Never seen the movie, but read the comics. It's not a comedy. It's just a brutal subversion of the superhero genre. There's no magic or demons in it, but there's a lot of imagery of that because the main character is delusional. That's the subversion; it's not about a superhero, it's about a lunatic serial killer who puts on a costume and butchers petty street criminals that he THINKS are cultists and demons.

I'm glad in editing they added the bit about the Faust comic predating Spawn because I was about to become annoyed at them saying Faust was copying Spawn... Fun fact about that comic... the original series ran 15 issues and took about 25 years to come out! I was working at a comic shop when it started, and it became a running joke in the early years about how it was a "monthly" comic that barely made it once a year. I think it ultimately ended with a whimper just to be done... the early issues are pretty crazy, and all but hardcore pornography with crazy detail by the artist... when I heard this movie came out (still haven't seen it) I couldn't figure out how they could make it without it being a XXX film.

When I saw the episode title I thought it was going to be an adaptation of the German legend and/or play. Then I realized it was based on the comic and I thought NO FUCKING WAY! Fortunately the movie seems to have been very toned down from the comic. Like for example the snake coming out of the woman's "bellybutton," or that it much more implies that It's a superhero story with fun demons and cultists, rather than the much darker reality of the comic.

Fun fact for Witcher fans. Mark Frost, the guy who plays Faust, is the voice actor for Iorveth in Witcher 2 and a bunch of side characters in Witcher 3. And he also played the Joker in some Batman Live Action thing which seems like the perfect role for him, judging from this video.
@nexviper6 жыл бұрын
Meanwhile him being in a dozen different UK daytime tv dramas seems a lot less like the perfect role but makes up the majority of his acting career.

Wow. The concept of a sci fi universe where prisoners have their consciousness uploaded into a computer to be "reprogrammed" sounds like a mind blowing idea for a story. Too bad the idea was wasted to make a movie about a guy who would probably be a throwaway villain on a Saturday morning cartoon. If any of you writers out there want to poach this idea, please, I will buy 3 copies of your book.
