@Cynical Frenchface aside from the technical aspect(which was objectively Well done) what makes a good horror movie is pretty subjective. I love the time piece and the whole concept of recreating a puritan fable but I can see why a lot of people wouldnt really care much for it
@eldenlean52214 жыл бұрын
@Cynical Frenchface the script is one of the best parts tho, its meant to be disjointed, its meant to be like a scare story puritan moms would tell their kids to make them behave, sort of like a dark fairy tale. And thats also the whole point of thomasin, as a puritan girl she doesnt have agency. She was about to get sold ib exchange for some cows lol. Her whole character arc is getting that agency, breaking away from her family, becoming her own person. Leaving the pure but restricted stage of being a kid into the edgy world of being a teenager/young adult.

Mike's sardonic grin when he says "They'll just change it" at 2:10 when they speak about a hypothetical "Animal Farm" remake is just one of the billion things why I love RLM :D Oh it will be about friendship but also about working together as a team. And probably family too.

Mad props Jay for 'The VVitch' & 'The Neon Demon' love. Especially the mention of the score, seriously was the best score of the year. That and Mica Levi's 'Jackie', which was another fantastic score.

I believe the humour used in The Lobster is called absurdist. A completely out there idea treated with complete seriousness. I wasn't a big fan, but I get why people would like it.
@simonmcnamee6196 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. It would definitely be in the tradition of, or evoking, Absurdism - Ionesco in particular - but if you read or see a Ionesco play like The Rhinoceros, for example, it isn't exactly *dry*... The Lobster looks fairly pretentious, which Ionesco most certainly was not.

Kinda odd that the premise of Pee Wee's Big Holiday is that he doesn't like going anywhere or trying anything new or ever leaving his town when the characters' first movie famously involved a cross country trip

Partly saw it finally cause I remember Jay praising it in another video. Now per Jay's praises i'm going to check out The Neon Demon. Thanks gents.

+Antrix because those movies are geared towards children. They're children's movies. These guys aren't children. Also saying it's "well received by critics" isn't any indication whether adults like it or not, especially in context with Disney. You give Disney a bad review and they'll put you in the furnace like they did with the jews.
