you guys hit it right on the head - why do they keep hiring visionaries if they are just going to change everything they do? thats one of the biggest problems with the industry
@shenyongo
@shenyongo 7 жыл бұрын
Because either 1) cheap to hire, since I wouldn't call Josh Trank a visionary after he was apparently high on set not only for Fant4stic but also on Chronicle too.. or 2) They expect to get the same success as with Christopher Nolan without thinking it through or 3) The director they choose ends up not being as manipulatable or gullible as they initially thought
@slyermeister
@slyermeister 7 жыл бұрын
I think hiring directors like as Ayers is pretty much an advertising ploy to draw in fans of earlier work. Then they change the original cut without realising that defeats the purpose of hiring such a director, or because it was never their intention to give him creative freedom.

The thing that annoys me so much about this movie is that there is a suicide squad movie out there that has a lot of the same characters, that focuses on Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Joker. It's called Batman: Assault on Arkham. The Suicide Squad typically isn't the team to fight Superman level threats but rather do the government's dirty work so that if the plan goes off the rails, they can just kill them with no remorse (hence the name Suicide Squad)

exactly, they made an incredibly poor 'live action' version of that great animated movie (they are, story wise, pretty close in ways). Well, I guess it saved on costs. But, for those who saw the animated movie first (as it came out well before the live action) it made the live action movie even worse. DC really shouldn't have gone full 'live action' (and butted heads with Marvels established universe). They should have gone their own route and redefined the animated movie (similar to what Akira did). They had the budget, the resources, the technical knowhow, but nope ..they went live action. Given the wealth of great animated movies DC has done, its a pity they didn't go that route. And taken their animation to the next level.

I love your reviews guys, especially of these big studio movies. Most reviews out there are by fanboys going, "This was cool, this sucked, I wana see this in the sequel, I love this character, that looks like the comics.." etc. You guys though, approach the movies from the point of view of filmmakers and business men. You don't just react, you analyze, because you actually know what your talking about unlike other "pricks with red backgrounds" on youtube. So yeh.. really appreciate what you guys do even though your still hack frauds!

It's sad that the way RLM differentiates itself from most "movie reviewers" is that they actually conduct analysis. Most YT reviewers say I loved [x part] or they hated [y part]. Then to really pretend like they are reviewers they will state whether or not the characters fit the comic book depiction.
@lilporkchop321
@lilporkchop321 7 жыл бұрын
Yeh exactly! The average YT review will talk about the characters and plot on a very superficial level like, "This character didnt do anything... This character wasnt interesting... This story was boring", but never say why!! Or talk about how it couldve been made better or how the movie ended up like that. Again, all reaction no analysis...

Yeh. You said it perfectly, "fanboys of films". They do gush over some movies that are technically bad, but unlike other KZbinrs they explain exactly why, how, with knowledge of the art form and the business. Opposed to the "this was cool/this was bad" method 95% of reviewers on YT do. Was just saying I love how they talk about movies. I didn't say anything specifically about Suicide Squad. I haven't even seen the movie yet (and probably not going to now).

I realized why I can't take Leto's Joker seriously. To paraphrase Plinkett, there's nothing wrong with his face. The other live-action Jokers had the "clown" look for some kind of tragic reason. Jack Nicholson fell in a vat of chemicals. Heath Ledger was covering his scars. Jared Leto's only facial disfigurement is that "damaged" tattoo on his forehead. He wears white makeup and green hair because... he likes to look ridiculous, I guess?

I just look at it as a 2016 joker, and I think it works that way. He's supposed to be in his early 30's if you go by the standard ages of characters in the average comic. If he's the same age as Leto then he'd be in his early 40's. The type of person who would become a joker character, being in either their 20's or 30's during the 90's/00's would most definitely get a bunch of cringey tattoos. Either before or after they transform into the joker.

Rick Flag's back with his girl, Harley's back with her Puddin', Will Smith's back with his daughter, Croc got his BET... 🤷 I don't know. It would have been cool if it was more bittersweet.

Behind the scenes clashes between government factions in the various secret agencies. Use the villains to do the dirty work and throw them under the bus if they get caught.

There were ethnic/racial stereotypes - Diablo was a Chicano gang banger, Smith was in the ghetto, Killer Croc spoke with slang and wanted BET, etc. But I agree it wasn't meant to be offensive or insensitive, they were just sketches of characters

'What kind of Archaeologist picks up an artefact and breaks it?!' None. Even Indiana Jones tried to save the artefacts, as sensationalized as his movies are... lol. She also shouldn't have been alone and the lack of sit set-up was pretty silly. Right away I was taken out of the film, but that's because Archaeology is sorta what I study.

Harley slashes a knife(You can see and hear it slash) at batman underwater. That's why he punched her out. If you trying to rescue someone underwater the last thing you want is getting stabbed repeatably while bringing them to shore. Even if she didn't have a knife he still should have punched her out because her struggling could drown the both of them.

Wearing a respirator and armor. Drowning and being stabbed not really that big an issue at the time. Also punching her is the only batman like thing he's done over the course of 3 movies,each pushing the 3 hour mark.

But why , wouldn't the effort to get the rights for mcr to cover it , then set up to record , then produce it , cost more than it takes to get the rights to use the original?? Did they just REALLY want mcr to be tied to this movie
@KeithBallardA
@KeithBallardA 7 жыл бұрын
It's Panic at the Disco, not MCR. Honestly their music is probably a lot cheaper to get than either MCR or Queen. PatD is also signed to DCD2 Records, which is part of Warner Music Group, which is of course the same parent company that is behind Suicide Squad.

We expected WB to trust DC and stay true to the director's original vision. We fans wanted the dark movie that the first trailer showed us. We didn't want an incoherent mess that comes from WB panicking and misinterpreting the criticism of Batman v Superman.

REQUEST: Could you guys dedicate a whole video to explaining more specifically what "studio meddling" entails? ...Maybe a video you could do with Matt Landis since I've seen him get salty about it before? I appreciate that it's fairly easy to guess what it entails (for the most part), and when you mention it passively in your videos I know what you're talking about, and how it fucks everything up, but during the STAR WARS: ROTS review from Plinkett, you guys go more in depth with behind the scenes footage showing off studio troubles with Lucas Arts and I've always found that level of insight and criticism really interesting and unique. Thanks in advance, if you ever read this.

@Adrijana Radosevic, do you really think those, for the most part "new" directors, would go up to the studio after they filmed a major budget movie and tell them to just "leave my vision alone"? Sure Peter jackson could have said something but he had pretty much made a deal for 3 movies making him pretty stable money over a few years. You just can't simply point to the exception and exlaim that regular procedure.
