Good call Jessie! Thanks! I've been using the Loctite®Extend Rust Neutralizer since fits my limited time I can work on this stuff. Seems to work good as a triple coating without a paint finish as well. Nothing underbody or chassis related... at least yet however. Other's I know; like the methods shown in the video for floorboards I've seen, so I don't know about the Loctite so much for high traffic aggressive areas.

If you're ever in a "I need this rust gone NOW" situation, phosphoric acid in a carrier (cheap IPA works well for instance) is like a 5 minute job, scrub it off when you start to see the faintest edge of oxidation forming, and seal with your choice of paint or oil. The good 85% purity phosphoric acid used to go for ~$23 a gallon and was fairly viscous right out of the bottle like a syrup of sorts. Last I bought it in November it had gone up to about $56, but it's needed for one of my processes so I bite and curse under my breath as ya do. Yes, it's insanely OP but works fantastically, and you kind of have to babysit it when it's warm outside. No risk of contaminating anything or fire, just it likes to work FAST. Add: Just cuz you asked, paint is very temperamental to temperature and humidity. Provided your in ~65*F or better and relatively dry, light sprays in a consistent direction of travel about 8 inches from your surface works consistently and you'll never have a run or pooling. If you've ever used an airbrush, this will become second nature.

Spray tip: short strokes (12 to 18 inches). Start spray and stop spray (just don't hold spray button down). 8 to 12 inches from what is being sprayed. Orange peel is caused by solvent in paint not being completely mixed throughout paint. Shake cans longer.

15:23 it's nice to warm up the spray cans, not only is it thinner but the can pressure is higher. I'll use a hairdryer or even a propane torch , depending on what's in my hand. Sometimes a first light coat can keep fisheyes away if that was something slightly oily. Warming up the parts with a hairdryer or propane torch doesn't hurt either, anything to help the paint get a little thinner and flow better. Getting too close and causing runs is easy to do, if that happens to you then move back a little or move back and forth quicker (or a combo of both).

Another thing I've had better results at keeping rust away... Is that spray Rust-Oleum available in a brush on? 2 coats of that first, lightly sanded for brush marks , and then 2 top coats of spray for the gloss. I did this on my summer cars suspension about 10yrs ago, but first was 2 coats of brush on por-15. It still looks great. And if a little stone hits it , hopefully all you see is the brush on Rust-Oleum underneath ,unless it's a hard hit. I see little pocks here and there in the gloss ,but it's not really noticable because of the brush on.

Cracking paint means there was contamination underneath or possibly the coat under did not cure properly or long enough before next coat went on.

What do you think about using a peerless 700-070A Scag gear box dropping down to a 1-1/2" solid axel? I'm making a "trail riding" mud mower 16hp Duramax motor

Problem would be the torque rating. Most 700 based gear boxes are 25 to 30 ft pound at best. Keep the gearing very low and it might work but bog it down on something and it might blow.

2:00 in and neither one is any good. I paint cars for a living, If it's surface rust (not rusted through). Knock off the loose stuff and paint. If you seal the rust from the atmosphere ( again not rusted through) you will stop the reaction.

@@NubsWithGuns Well If you have a small rust hole in a 69 Camaro quarter panel. You can knock it down fill it with fiberglass and buy yourself a few years. Then just repaint the quarter as needed. Putting a quarter panel on opens up a can of wormers.
