I wear Shalimar in fall and winter, have done since I was in my 20s, now I'm 62. My late mother-in-law always had a bottle of 4711 on her dressing table (I heard that it was a favorite amongst the Nazis 🙄) and she wore Royal Secret! That one became extremely hard to find, I don't even know if it's still manufactured. She also liked Halston. She was a class act for sure. My own mother (who recently passed) rarely wore any scent, but when she did, it was Joy by Jean Patou. When we smelled that, we knew our parents were going out on the town! Can't forget my beloved Grandmother; she loved Arpege and Shalimar as well. Beautiful!

Hello Steven, what lovely choices you have made. 4711 evokes for me a fantasy journey on the Orient Express in days gone by (without Hercules Poirot and the murder). I remember seeing the adverts for Tresor when I was younger. The exquisite Isabella Rossellini was the model, and the pictures were filtered with a delicate peachy pink hue. Etched in my memory forever. And what does one say about Shalimar that has not been said already. I like to think of it as a work of alchemy, because there’s a sense of magic that transcends mere chemistry. On the topic of mental wellness, this one video just erased all the stress of my week 💜 thank you Steven

Mugler Cologne was my signature summer scent for years and I find 4177 EDC to be extremely similar. It's definitely a mood booster. Some people like Mugler Come Together just as much as the Mugler Cologne but it always just seemed a bit off to me. There is also an incredibly cheap discontinued fragrance called Unbreakable Love which is extremely close to both Mugler Cologne and 4177 EDC. I'm talking like $6 - $9 cheap on discounters. And Shalimar, wow, blast from the past. That was my mother's scent all through the late 70's and 80's. I'd like to get my nose on that again, for the nostalgia of it all.

My mother alway used Tresor it smelled great such a woman with style parfume. I would put up Poison by Dior and Giorgio Armani.

4711 was the first perfume that was given to me as a Christmas gift by my grandparents at the tender age of 5 years old. Odd thing to do, though - maybe different times back then. I have it to my dolls as I didn't like the lemony smell back then

💯 agree about Tresor. The modern version is good but the vintage tall bottle is amazing. Sophia Grosjman also did other favourites such as Paris by YSL and Jaipur by Boucheron.

I think CT Calm Bliss was inspired by 4711. However, I find Calm Bliss to be quite chaotic. Like being punched in the face with a lemon, then chased down the street by a dirty hippie. 4711, on the other hand, is sunny, classic and not passive aggressive.

Oh to be able to smell the original Shalimar. I had the recent Parfum, and yes, there were things that I liked about it, but it isn’t what it used to be. Guerlain and Dior have changed many of their iconic fragrances and rendered them pale imitations of their former selves. Shalimar set the standard and it should be the greatest still, but it just isn’t, sad to say. 😢

Trésor came out when I was in high school. I'd smell it at the mall, in fragrance ads in magazines, and my French teacher wore it. Thank you for classifying it as a masterpiece, and I completely agree with you. I love Trésor and wear it myself. Trésor takes me back to the carefree days of my youth, to be sure, but its composition somehow comforts my soul in a way that other fragrances do not. I'll add that Cher's Uninhibited and Fendi from Fendi were two others that also particularly appealed to me.

Me too. I have a bottle in my bag, my bedside cabinet, my bathroom and I never go anywhere without the 4711 washlets. I have migraines and find it really helps - just lifts my mind. My late mum would always put a few drops on a handkerchief and dab her forehead and neck. Can’t be without it.

Beyond Rose by Clinique is the best Rose perfume ever! Makes me feel like I was "kidnapped" by a prince/ sheik and taken to a tent in the desert with walls and ceiling covered in oriental rugs, and vases filled with very ripe roses and he is about to seduce me...🥀🥀🌙🌙 This is the best rose fragrance I have ever smelled and I have a lot of rose scents!!

4711 smells wonderful but you literally have to shower in it with a spray bottle. Tom afford Neroli Portofino or any similar dupes are a better choice over 4711.

Oh wow, Tresor was my signature fragrance in the early 90s! I never hear anyone talk about Tresor. It is such a beautiful scent. L’air du temps was another favorite from my high school days and still my mom’s favorite scent for me. I wish I could find a vintage bottle of both. I saw you talk about the Shalini, and I was gonna ask your thoughts on Shalimar since I almost bought it for my wife when I saw it on sale for $30 at my local CVS. I held back thinking it would be too old school. Also, first time I tried TF Neroli Portofino- I was disappointed because it brought me back to that bottle of 4711 in my grandpa’s bathroom lol. I expected Neroli Portofino to be a citrusy masculine frag like ADP Colonia Club 😂😂 Great video as per usual , love the introduction to different frags. 💯💯

Fully agree with you regarding Tresor on a woman. It captivated me back in the day and is still one of the most attractive womens fragrances of all time IMO. If you haven't smelled the La Nuit Tresor flanker, it's modernized a bit and is gorgeous.
