A wonderful purchase, a bargain at 4,500 USD (£3,530!), and in such excellent condition, with so low a mileage! She's got a keeper there! I've had a few of my "roadster and cruiser" bikes with bolt-on windscreens, and I have permanently removed them after a short while because of the uncomfortable wind-buffeting behind them, created by the vacuum behind the windscreen! Spreading the wind pressure evenly over the whole body without them results in much more pleasantness during the ride! (Just avoid the rain!...LOL...).Take the windshield off and enjoy the freedom!! I'm eager to see more of your sister riding her new purchase! Take care both, and ride safe!.....😀...😀...from England....😀...!

2007!!!! The same as mine so she obviously has superb taste! Happy and safe riding to you both! This HD has the *Sporster EVO* engine, a better engine than the Big Twin EVO. Parenthetically, the Evo engine was rubber-mounted starting in 2004, while F.I. was added in 2006. Your sister's bike, therefore, is a fuel injected EVO (preceding the EVO was the Sportster "iron head"). Also parenthetically, it is recommended not to be in fifth gear below 60 miles per hour. The Sportster EVO is easiily a 100,000 mile engine.

Hi Red, that looks like a nice bike. My first Harley was a 96 Sportster I bought from my Son. It had lowering brackets on the back shocks. I found a poor mans fix to lower the front. I loosened the triple tree and slid the fork tubes up. I held the front break and pushed hard to find the point before the headlight hit the fender. I think I slid the tubes up one and three quarter inches. Easy to do, easy to change back. Never road it double and never had a problem. It had drag bars with a quick bob tank. I think it held 3.2 gallons. Lowering it just went with the look. I don't know If sliding the fork tubes up is an option on the newer Sportsters though. I hope your Sister has many safe trips on her new bike.

What a great bike with low mileage. Hopefully, when your sister gets a few more miles under her belt y'all can ride and film together. My 2007 Softail is EFI, but I don't think that's the case on all 2007 HDs. My first HD was a 2011 Sportster 48 and it didn't have a tac or fuel gauge, but it does have a light that indicates when you're near empty which wasn't much on the tiny Sportster 48 two gallon tank. The tank on your sisters looks like the three gallon tank. Thanks for sharing.

I've had a couple of Harleys, both Evo 1340's, an 86 and a 2000, nice engines but for me I like the reliability of a jap bike especially for all year round riding, plus the ease of getting spare parts, I think it's easier in the US and Canada to get Harley parts at a good price. hi Angel, great looking Sportster; lucky little sister! On my Heritage the fuel gage is in the left false gas cap... which isn't a gas cap at all ! On the left edge of the console is a little rubber button that toggles the speedo display between odometer and "trip" mileage. If you hold in on the rubber button in trip mode it clears the trip. If it has the left gas cap fuel gauge DONT twist the cap... look straight down into it to see fuel gage. Hey, I finally got my Pan America Special (whoo hoo). I'm sending you an email with some pics for Red Riders Rides; also a pic of my Heritage console you can compare to your sister's Sportster. Mine is a 2003, so sis's bike is a little newer, but same gernal vintage. marcus

In my own personal experience I would take a TC over an EVO 7 day's a week. My wife purchased a Heritage Softail EVO in "98 and still has it. The engine was trouble free for us but the Stator went out 3 times and the Starter Clutch 3 times as well. The engine was worn out as far as rings pistons, crankshaft, and barrels. We rebuilt it with S&S components as OEM parts were no longer available. I purchased a "99 Road King TC the next year for me and at 15,000 miles had them check the timing chain guides and tensioners. All showed pretty good wear so I had them install new S7S gear drive and 210 cams. I then rode it to 100,000 miles and the bike still only used a half a pint of oil every 3,000 miles. Other than that the bikes was Flawless and the only thing I changed were fluids, filters, brakes and tires. The TC also had a ton more power than the EVO even with a bigger cam and the re-jet for the Carburetor. TC was Quieter, smother, faster, and longer lasting. I now have a '14 RK TC and a "17 Road Glide special M8 but both have far to few miles to compare. I have installed an after market stage II on the M8 along with an S&S cam plate, oil pump, Inner cam BRGS, Fueling lifters, Lifter cuffs and a complete Exhaust because of the Sumping issues the early M8's were having. I feel like this should make the engine last a while but my local independent that does my work say's the piston rings, Pistons, and Cylinders are a weak spot for many of the M8's as well. The '14 TC has a Stage 1 with a full exhaust and a dyno tune. So there you have it, everything I know from my long ownership experiences about the 3 motors.
@RedRiderCanadaBC
@RedRiderCanadaBC Жыл бұрын
Yea I thinks it’s really a preference thing and usually comes some to how well maintained some things are. But I’ve heard that the TC motors (not sure if it’s all TC or just the early ones) have the timing chains adjusted to the max adjustment and that causes them to wear out a lot quicker. And then I’ve also talked to some Harley techs who said the early M8 motors (2016 to 2018 or so) had oil pump issues where the pump didn’t actually circulate enough oil, which would cause all kinds of issues. But I’ve never owned or worked on any of those engines so I cant say from my own experience weather they are reliable or not. I just know my shovel is simple to work on lol

You’ll get spoiled with that windshield and saddle bags :) Thanks for posting. BTW, That bike doesn’t have a fuel gauge. Use the trip meter on the odometer. It gets like 60 miles to the gallon so really don’t need one. If you want one, change the speedo to include the sensor but it’s pricey.

Windshields are a good thing. I put a windshield on during the winter months. That really extends being able to ride when the temps dip below 40 degrees. Those Sporters are great! I've owned two, 2005 1200 Sporties. Love their rubber mounted motors which makes a better ride. Yes Evo's are fantastic. They are just about bullet proof. I miss my Sportsters, but I went with the Indian Scout and Triumph Bonneville as my last bikes I'll own. I'm a old geezer, Sportsters hit the road in 1957 the same year I was born. Loved the video and I know your sis will love her new bike! Ride and stay safe up there in your beautiful B.C.!

My Sportster has four hundred thousand miles on her and is 25 years old and the only thing I replaced in the engine so far is the stator that wore out. The newer sportsters if they have the riveted clutch you should change that because the rivets can fear and the clutch can come apart but other than that they are super reliable I know guys who have mileage a quarter of what I have and they are surprised I have gotten the amount of mileage on my bike to sharing it is all original in the engine. Sorry for the grammar I have a shity phone

400,000 miles is fantastic! What brand of oil do you use? I take it you never pulled the heads or cylinders?
@frankmarkovcijr5459
@frankmarkovcijr5459 Жыл бұрын
@@191895 believe it or not I use Harley oil exclusively. When I had my Harley credit card I would get my Chromecast certificate. At $25 it would pay for 3 quarts of oil and a filter and it will cost me a dollar 26 to change my oil and filter. The bartender at my local American legion where I am a member because I am a veteran had a case of Harley oil 2050 that he sold for like $50 and there were 12 Court in the case. It has been phenomenally reliable and dependable and the only thing I have done to the motor is to replace a stator. The hedge have never been off. It's all original except for the exhaust pipes which I like because they're not quiet and they're not loud as hell there are good in between. I rode my Sportster back and forth to work and to temporary jobs and two job interviews so I would put mileage on it because I did not drive a car. The local ABATE chapter nominated me for road Captain but it was voted down because I don't go bar 🍻 hopping cuz I don't drink. My idea of a little ride is to ride around lake Okeechobee in Florida. When we had the hurricane last year a tree fell on the shed my Sportster was in and all it did was scratch the paint on the right hand side which was already faded from the Sun from sitting in the driveway. I was very lucky it was not destroyed. My rescue motorcycles are like my rescue dogs they appreciate having a good home.

Gotta to admit windshield would look like crap on a cruiser type bike like my Springer or Super glide , but for regular traveling to work daily on my Street glide going Interstate speeds at 75 to 80 mph the wind beats the hell out of you and the windshield gets better looking , lol! She might hate the saddle bags too ,but there great for hauling stuff which she'll come to find out . I had my custom made for my Springer .....way better than the stock HD bags that deform and lose their shape!

Nice, low miles. Keep tabs on the trans fluid changes for metal. 2003 was the last sporty with the 'trap' door easy access. You have to split the case to get to the gears... yikes! Sweet ride for your sis... 👍
@frankmarkovcijr5459
@frankmarkovcijr5459 Жыл бұрын
Harley stopped the trapdoor because their transmissions in the Sportster are so reliable. When they made the k model they did not have to trap door and the racers complain because they had to split the cases to change the gearing so that's why they put the trapdoor in and that's why they took the trapdoor out nobody races sportsters anymore. Since I have four hundred thousand miles on the original bike I can tell you that just changed the fluid as required and you will have no problems. I fill it up with 40 oz of transmission fluid your box combination fluid you know because I found out that in between changes it will use 8 oz of oil so I overfill it a little bit so it will not ever go down below the recommended amount. 🛢️ If cheap transmissions are not

@@frankmarkovcijr5459 ... lucky you; the racers beat the you know what out of their rides. Also Harley went to a belt drive; basically the weak link, easily changed.

@@davidcoyote8921 I get 100,000 mi + out of a belt. I ruined one belt because the oil wet sump into the crankcase and I put a quart of oil in it and then it pumped it back into the oil tank and then it dribbled oil all over the drive belt and it started losing teeth but I managed to make it home. One time I woke up and when I fired up the bike the Bell just smacked but snapping a belt is not like when you snap a chain that goes to the cases.
