@theeditor1072 this is, in fact, the point. When I was looking for my new used car, the Evoque came up as an option. I talked to 4 mechanics. Not one of them didnt tell me to run. They told me that when you have to replace the timing chain, you have to pull the entire engine out and that will cost between 5k and 8k, IF there are no more problems, leaks everywhere and electronic failures like it's raining. They said you have to check if the steering wheels bolts have been replaced or not cause they must be otherwise another potential catastrophic problem is the steer detaching. And they kept talking. One of them simply told me he's not gonna work on it if I buy it. You are right people are mad. But not cause they cannot AFFORD to buy a Range Rover. But cause they cannot afford to MAINTAIN it. Now we all know that in the comments, we are all former Apple CEOs making 300k a month, no doubt about it, thats what anonimity is for. But the more people keep supporting a company that has had its own DG come out and say "because of our quality problems, we lost 140k clients per year", the less they will fix their problems. THE LAND ROVER DG SAID THAT. he admitted it. I have no doubts that millionairse will keep buying them. But doing this, they will never improve.

@@RK.7796 If u watched the review, Adam makes it very clear that prior to reviewing any vehicle, they put a lot of research into the vehicle. They review info about the vehicle, from many different sources, who own the product. This enables Adam to give an objective overview of the vehicle. If Adam owned a Disco, and travelled 100,000 kms in it, if the car had been perfect, then he’d say so. If the car had many problems, he’d say this. But, is JUST his own personal experience with the vehicle, good or bad, an accurate representation of the vehicle, on an overall basis, when u factor in that LR are selling thousands of these every year… ? I don’t think so… Watch the video, and listen to what Adam says. The content is very true / accurate and fair, as it is based on a lot of research, of info gained from many different sources. If u personally owned a Disco, and had a great experience with it. Does that mean every Disco is perfectly reliable ? No If u personally owned a Disco, and had many problems with it, does that mean that every Disco is crap ? No…

I did buy used at less than a half of original price with just 33000 km in BC Canada. Most things happened to it including a sudden windshield leak. It is a very needy car, especially if it’s diesel. Had a few instances of reduced performance due to exhaust sensors and the diesel exhaust plugged up. Anyways there is always something, but still like the style and comfort. Other cars look like products of anti design conspiracy. Also have Kia shortage 2011. Discovery looks so over designed. So many things could be simpler and more efficient. Hood opening lever is total shit. Kia has it way better.

I've owned Land Rovers for over 20 years and have been very lucky so far. I've had a D2, D3, D4 and currently a L320 Range Rover Sport (which is essentially a D4 underneath). All of them have been great vehicles. Comfortable, capable off road and stylish. However, my time with the brand is coming to an end once I take delivery of my Land Cruiser 300. Why? Because I feel like I have used up my 9 lives with LR, and reliability is becoming more important to me as I get older.

I have a Landrover discovery HSE luxury. Honestly it’s a great car. 65,000 miles 5 years old and so far only thing went wrong was a window regulator which was fixed under warranty. The car literally has everything works. I think the only thing that does happen is the infotainment system takes and extra 10-15 seconds when it’s very hot. I believe most issues with cars are because of how it’s used, short trips, not being used regularly ect. But if used all the time they are a great runner.

As a mechanic if you want your vehicle to last. Servicing every 10,000kms is a must. Do not believe all the marketing BS from many car makers out there pushing extended service intervals. No engine in current production will last with extended service intervals that is a fact. You are asking for trouble as things will break. As for batteries draining that is just a product of all modern cars having way too many computer modules in them. I have a 2013 mazda CX-5 AWD 2.5 It has 140,000kms still has the original battery.

Good review! I think you are spot on by saying owning the Discovery 5 is a gamble with the odds not on your side. I think its very true of all new JLR products. I have relatives that own new/ish Land Rovers and the maintenance cost is eye watering. Their off road Terrain Response is fantastic but also infuriating. I'm a massive Land Rover fanatic but I've learnt that any JLR product designed by Gerry McGovern will give you problems. Call me old fashioned but I miss the days when Land Rover had proper engineers such as Gordon Bashford, Spen King and David Bache.

I am here for the video but I am really interested in the comments. I am waiting for the comment section to fill up with owners claiming their Land Rover has accrued over a million kilometers without so much a burnt out numberplate bulb. They have only required a occasional oil change and windshield washer fluid top up. Unicorns do exist but the occasional reliable/durable example doesn't reflect the ownership experience of a overwhelming majority of people who buy them.

SOS tips: Diesel 2L: STAY AWAY Diesel 3L 2017: STAY AWAY Diesel 3L 2018: gamble Diesel 3L after 2019 is OK Standard windshields almost certainly will leak. Replace with Pilkington glass Windscreens. Not standard again. Electric deployable towbars fail but there is replacement motors available after market. The whole part is too expensive Doors window glasses collapse after time because the wires that retain them rust quickly. Air springs fail at random, like in all cars with air springs. When the gesture tailgates fail (sensor issues), your tailgate will open at random and perhaps will get damaged. Deactivate gesture tailgate feature by removing fuse F49. Change the ZF gearbox oil every 80-90k kms for a long life. These are most of the main issues. Cheers. PS. I have been offroading with my daily drivers Discovery Sport, and Evoque for 11 years and now the Disco5. Only a gearbox controller failure to report, cost of 400 euros.

Complete and utter piece of sh##. I had one for less than 12 months it was in and out of the dealership most of that time. Didn’t help the dealership was run by untrained monkeys that didn’t know one end of their product from the other. Even called the local OEM for help, no reply. My wife has had a $15 hairdryer for 24years that’s more reliable. I traded it in ( the Land Rover not the hairdryer ) for a brand new Mazda CX9 7 seater which I drove for 11years and 180,000 kms with 3 kids and enough gear to survive an Armageddon. It never ever ever missed a beat and looked new until the day I sold it. I have driven LOTS of Land-Rovers. My first car was a 1954 Series I with rust and an asthmatic engine. I wish I still had it. Then came about 30 other Land Rovers from Series I, IIa, III, etc etc. I also had several Classic Range Rovers. All were second hand. The biggest repair I had on all of them was a leaking heater radiator. All were thirsty but I had very few mechanical problems apart from the first Series I which was totally clapped out. These days I am driving a Discovery 2 Td5. It had one previous owner and I bought it with about 211,000 km on it. Apart from services it has not needed any work on it. It is now 20 years old and I think I will have to have some small leaks attended too but it has generally been very reliable. But would I buy a recent Land Rover? No thanks. I'll keep the Disco and the Subaru Outback. Mike in Oz

My sister bought a HSE in 22 and none of us have the time nor the patience to go through all the things that went wrong with in the 10k km she put on it before realizing the car had obviously been made by Satan himself. Some of the pearlers were it needing new brake discs after, I kid you not, 100km. Nope, not 100.000 and not 1000 either. One hundred kilometers. The explanation she got from the dealer was 'they were glazed'. Mind you, my sister is a doctor who drives slower than gramma on her way back from the bingo. Reverse camera would work 'maybe' 30% of the time and that's despite the dealer throwing all kinds of parts at it. It would simply say 'cameras not available' and you just had to live with that. To add salt to the wound, when that happened it would knock out the parking sensors!! Some times the Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity would test your mental health as well. On self selected days you'd start the car and it would hook itself up wirelessly in seconds, other days you would try all the tricks in the book and it would simply not work. Or it would magically turn itself on about 40min into your drive. Also, the car went through 2 front wheel bearings in those 10k ks. Just bizarre. 'Lucky' for her the car was new and still under warranty and because she sold it after the 1st year she didn't lose as much as she should have but it's safe to say she's never buying another Land Rover. Ever.

I sold it in 2008 and vowed NEVER to return to this ridiculously over-hyped brand... so you can imagine my literal amazement to find out in this vid that they're STILL UTTER CRAP - WHO IS BUYING THESE THINGS?? After a first gen Range Rover, 2 110 Defendes, one diesel, one petrol. Magnificent when its going. But when things start to go wrong, electronics, mechanically, thats when you will never buy another LR product again. Spare parts must be gold plated, or thas what the prices suggest, and availability is a serious issue. On top of that, the drop in value each year, will drive you pulling your hair out. The LR Experiance is not worth the cost. No thank you.

The problem with all these long service intervals with all manufacturers is that so many new cars are leased as company cars and the lease cost is based on the long service interval so no matter what the owner/drivers think the car will not get adequate oil changes, so if you are buying 3-4 year old ex-lease cars avoid anything with higher mileages like the plague no matter who made it.

When this body shape was released I thought these look great but greatness needs to be more than skin deep & consistent reliability across the range is not too much to expect. It is the 2020's, my simple base model SUV from 2014 may not excite anyone but has been reliable so far & a lot cheaper to purchase when new, but I look after it.Servicing is before every 10,000 at 6 month intervals & run on 95 Ron even though it can run on 91.

Thanks Adam & Jim - only perceived status-driven citizens will own Landrovers and SW & Western Sydney Mercedes chariots - anyone with some modicum of awareness knows how bad these brands are and oh did I also mention Jeep and Ford - a shame because Land Rover design aesthetics are pleasing to the eye - my friend bought a Landrover Sport as a style accessory and she’s regretted it ever since because the value has dropped catastrophically due to it’s reputation and she will lose a lot of $’s on sale - if it’s not Japanese I’m not interested.

When the LR3/Disco 3 later 4 came out it's issues led to the same internet meltdown. Now nearly all of those faults have been worked out and the realisation of the general 2000's issue of not using longlife service intervals and too light oils means it is now well known how to keep them reliable and fix their foibles as easily and cheaply as possible. (apart from the randomly self-destructing cranks in the later 3.0 versions of the Ford Peugeot TDV6 - nothing you can do about that , either gets you or it doesn't)

After too many visits to service ( 8 ) they changed the whole DPF system costing too much but it was taken by guarantee cover. Its great vehicle but the problems everybody saying scaring me how it will be in the future, for now: DPF, emergency monitors going off, rear camera…i have bought extended warranty but staying at service and driving it there is frustrating, sometimes few times a month.

I love LR cars - They represent what cars / SUV should be - But I have had some issues - I could not believe it could even happen ( I did not even think It's possible to happen) I lived in SL and had a discovery for no of years - one of the issue that bugged me the most - During winter season ( bit of a foggy season) the car would build up condensation like you would not believe. I would have to constantly wipe the windows and build moist so much. and eventually I had rust issue. 2nd issue that stand out from my experience - electrical F**** ups. ( Remote key stopped working, window mirror is would not adjust, and electric seat stopped working, , wipers stopped working no of times , the list goes on) Saying all of that I loved that car - It was a company car so I did not mind the cost - the headache was real.

I'm always shocked that people will buy a car that'll turn into a money pit before even reaching a measly 100,000km's. If you have to replace some aspect of the suspension or other fairly easy repair then that's one thing but a catastrophic engine failure is just silly. More money than sense!

I have had a disco 4 for 7 years and no real issues. I think the secret is regular maintenance and I changed the oil every 6k miles and this keeps the engine sweet. Fuel is another thing I am wary of. I never buy from a supermarket, they have less detergents than regular petrol stations. I have now changed to a D5 and as for reliability guess time will tell. I have had it for six months now and love every time I jump into it, there is nothing else like it on the road, life is short and if you want one go and get it. I promise you will not be disappointed. On the other hand go with your head and buy something sensible and die of boredom

Other brands do have issues, you’re right. We’re not saying they don’t, but Land Rover are statistically worse than others. Check out the latest JD power report in the states, Land Rover are dead last for reliability. With almost twice the problems as top-placed Lexus. Jaguar are only a couple of places better. So saying JLR products are a gamble to buy, where the odds are not in your favour, isn’t a band wagon statement, it’s a fact.

This breaks my heart. The range rovers are lovely to drive, and I hoped that they would sort their engineering issues out since the Freelander epic disaster. I bought one a few years ago, loved it so much but discovered (after the previous owner spent thousands on issues) that coolant was pooling in places where it shouldn't, and mechanically designed, it's a messed up car. They need a different tactic because I want a range rover but refuse to buy until they sort their shit out!!
