I'm the Andrew that owns this. I do around 1000kms a week in this in regional NSW, so it gets serviced every 15 weeks or so. Very much a fan of an independent mechanic. The tyre noise is down to the Hankook tyres on it currently. They won't be refitted. I cannot believe i left a pack of tissues (clean) in the passenger net and the right rear seat has never done that before. Honest. Great review as always.

@PH-kl5qq the infotainment is fine. It's much better pre 2022. After that it was a google system. The Bowers and Wilkins is amazing. But the concert hall setting is not good for podcasts lol. I've done 10,000kms since the video with zero problems. I've replaced the tyres with Goodyear Eagle tyres and it's much quieter and handles better.

We had a 2018 Xc60 R design D5 Loved every minute of it! Clocked 150kms in 2+ years and so we sold it but not one issue up to that point! Replaced it with an X6 and while we liked the luxury of the BMW, it was nowhere near as comfortable as the XC60 and the B&W sound system was far superior to the premium system of the X6. We are waiting for the updated XC90 and will return to Volvo once that hits the market. Ours was reliable (regularly serviced) and never had an issue apart from the rubber on the rear wheel arch that kept getting dislodged. Best seats compared to BMWs Audis or Mercs hands down, especially for long drives

Just drove a 3 week old plugin hybrid xc60 that in my home country goes for around 85k euro. Stranded the second week on the highway as the car gave a propulsion error and could not drive any faster than 45 km/h. Googled it and was shocked how many people experienced this issue. My love for volvo died down. Love the looks and the drive, but reliability is key.

MY18 D5 R-Design here. Simply amazing car, 98% of what is said in this video is spot on. The pilot assist / self drive is literally better than tesla, and I own both.. _Good_ Sound system best in any car I've owned, sub is a bit lacking but highs and mids amazing. Awesome seat so much adjustability, even better in the back for long trips. Ability to tow, no issues here, long range interstate with the self drive effortless driving even in snow, heavy rain pitch black puts so many other cars to shame. 1100km to a tank, 880 around town why buy a hybrid? Sound proof, easy to park, light steering, heads up display with a really great dash - GPS guidance as well., ACTUAL spare tyre! Adjustable height air suspension great for elderly and shorties even a bloody 4G modem in the car. Pre 2019 models have no adblue :) and pre 2020 models have no china spec wiring gremlins! _The bad_ Intercooler hoses blow off - common Air con is pretty weak compared to Aussie cars, glass roof doesn't help Air con evaporator - common issue rediculous to fix, much like the sunroof. Few sensors that are delicate Stupid volvo servicing - I take mine to 'volv of Adelaide' Dash rattles after 120k kms certain bumps. Suspension doesn't handle potholes well. You're mates will give you shit even redicle, but your wife will drive one and won't give it back. Welcome to the hat drivers club, you wish you were a bloody volvo driver!

Definitelly XC60. I am from Poland. I have searched for a brand new mid SUV AWD petrol. I have driven for test Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Mercedes GLC. Finally I decided to buy Volvo My2024 XC60 B5(p) AWD Plus Dark Polestar Engineered (yea mouthful name I know) . I drive calmly so sportive features of its opponents did not matter to me. There are only three issues. The first is to small trunk (should have 100 litres more). The latter is this problem with rear doors. They get terribly dirty edges from the inside despite the additional protective caps. The last one is impossibility to turn off auto start/stop system. You can switch to Polestar mode but it is not suitable to cruise over the city. It shifts gears on 3000 rpms not on 2000 so such agreesive drive is not for daily usage. I used to switch to manual mode every time I see that stop will be really short and I am between 10 and 20 km/h. Afer that I switch back to D. Anyway good car so far. BTW My Android Infotainment works fantastic, no problems so far. I like voice commads to control climate, radio, navi. All works in polish language which is not so often. Strange that there is no "Hey Volvo" but "Hey Google" - this should be replaced definitelly :)

I have a 2020 XC60 T5, good car so far. Only issue is the windshield wipers failed, apparently this was a recall. Living in rainy Vancouver its important for those to work. The only other issue is when the car is in reverse it lowers the audio volume. Every 1 out of ten times the audio never comes back and you have to fully shut down the vehicle. Open the door then restart. A bit annoying for a luxury SUV.

Done regular servicing at the independent mechanic and at the dealer to update software periodically. Aside from regular wear and tear components replacement, I had no issues. The only problem is deprication, but if the vehicle is kept for long periods, it might not matter. Would I buy it since electrification and post 2022 upgrade? NO. 😢 I recommend getting Lexus NX, which I'm looking at the moment.

Was taking the Micky out of automotive journalists obsession with soft touch interior finish, which I understand, up until a point. But, get this, CarExpert actually has an instrument for measuring a surfaces hardness that he uses for his reviews. Pretty much it's only cars with plush upmarket interiors that arrive at the dealership on the back of a tow truck. Those vehicles cursed with fingernail rubbing inducing "hard scratchy plastics" seem to always arrive on the service driveway, having been driven there my the owners.

I was definitely surprised that Hullsy recommended the diesel over the petrol and hybrid models. by about the time the first gen XC60 ended production and the second gen started, Volvo had phased out all old engines in favor of new 2L petrol and diesel platforms developed in China, presumably by Geely. Don't know what role Volvo had in that, but they build them in Europe so the reliability is either poor/unpolished design when they were developed, or some build quality issues. The 2L diesel in the 1st gen XC60 was Peugeot/Citroen's HDI which is a proven platform. Solid, reliable, economical(as long as you don't neglect too much of course). That engine has been inside nearly everything you can think of in many many modifications, power outputs and what not. Compact hatchbacks, family estates/wagons, cargo vans, SUV's and more. So what I speculate is: they took that engine as a base for developing the new one and have a more reliable Geely engine thanks to starting from a reliable platform. On the other hand the petrol 2L would be less successful regardless if they based it on an existing europian platform or not. That's because these new engines were conceived as an idea way back in the late 00's. This was early downsizing and turbocharging era in europe and all 2L turbo platforms were complete bollock waffles and they remained that way for at least a few years, maybe at least a model generation or two. Like the early TSI motors on VW's, Audis, Skodas etc... I've seen Mk 5 and 6 golfs doing car repair shops tours, because nobody was able to figure out what was wrong with them 😂 Anyways, all this to say that if they based their new petrol engine on one of those earlier europian platforms, it would be no surprise they are crap. 15 years ago IL4 Turbo diesels in europe were the best and IL4 Turbo petrols were a "don't buy" and "def def don't buy used" 🤣 BTW I've no grounds to base this on, it's pure conspiracy on my part and I just concocted it whilst writing this comment. So consider this non-canon to the lore 😂😂😂

The D5 engine, the 5 cyl, is reagarded by us as one of the best engines (incl. petrols) in the category < 2.5 l. In our Volvo association (Switzerland), ca 1,200 Volvos, we have 99.7 diesels, and many of the them run for over 400,000 km, before they were sold to Germany or export. The possible mileage of the B5 (4 cyl. Diesel w/ mini e-motor) has be seen in the next years. REMEMBER; every engine can have problems, even a Toyota 1HZ..... the Volvo with the world-wide certified mileage was an 1800 , with 3.5 M miles, not km.... In our association, many people have drive regularly the 240 (stations of course), and even the PV544.....with mileages of around 600,000 km

The earlier Volkswagen five pot diesel was a popular choice, and long lived if serviced correctly. A well respected design.

There is a trim upgrade for rear door lower area from Volvo, costs buttons and you can fit in about two mins per side, stops all dirt getting to inside of rear door.

Thanks for the excellent review. And the great comments. Here in the US, we have Consumer Reports to tell us that the Volvo XC60 is among the least reliable of all the compact luxury SUVs. But I have a 2017 Volvo XC60 T5 AWD, bought used, and I love it. But I have had some expensive repairs, and I did get completely stranded recently. I have been driving various wonderful Volvo sedans and wagons for 50 years and was only ever stranded once before, a long time ago. So I am torn. I would like to get a newer XC60, like a '22, but reliability is one of my biggest concerns. I am thinking that a thorough independent inspection and an extended warranty might be good investments. BTW, one minor beef with my '17 is that the infotainment bezel is brushed chrome and it extends above the top of the dash so that Arizona sun can reflect directly into my eyes. How stupid is that? Fortunately, a sheet of black vinyl adhesive took care of it. Ugly, but functional.

The funny thing is that Volvo decided to go for a 4 cylinders only to "streamline" their range !! It is just so confusing, wait until they change everything from XC to EX

I’ve often admired these when I’ve seen the parked on the side of the road. Pity when the engineers asked how complicated Volvo wanted the drivetrain they just got told “yes”. Never let the engineers go nuts…

We owned a brand new 2011 xc60 that had a huge oil consumption. The car was in service over 30 days. Finally it was deemed a lemon car. The manufacturer was forced to buy back the car. It was a nightmare of a car.

I own a 2012 XC60 T6 with 90,000 miles. I bought it off a lease in 2015 with 60,000 miles and took it to Volvo Dealer for a pre purchase inspection. They said it was perfect. It's been nothing but trouble. I regret buying it. I'll never buy another one.

I am planning to buy a Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid Mid-SUV or SUV. Budget below $60k. I was thinking about XC60 mild hybrid used. But saw BYD SEALION 6 under $60k brand new as well. Also considering RAV4 used. I got around 100km daily drive to work. Also looking for a long term use. Based on quality, features and all which one you suggest. Let me know if anyone got other options as well.

I am always surprised how many people buy a car for it's looks, not for how it performs. I guess it's more important for them to impress their neighbours that to have a car they can rely on year after year.
