TTS has the same engine & driveline as S3 & Golf R, except it’s lighter in weight. Easily capable of 0-100 low 4’s with nothing more than a remap, & has been punching well above its weight in the NSW limited production championship over the last few years in the capable hands of Josh Muggleton. There is not many hairdressers who could manage one of these.

The MK3 TTS already hits low 4 seconds, with a remap in ideal conditions you can actually get into the high 3 seconds.

I have been a MK2 TTS owner for over 6 years and the only thing needing replacing was a leaking rear shock. I spent money doing a Stage 2 APR Tune and the thing goes hard when needed but also a brilliant daily. Drove from the Gold Coast to Ayers Rock and back and never had any issues. But no problem overtaking those road trains you get out in the NT. Such an under rated car, worth a look. Definitely a classic in the future.
@mad_mik7 ай бұрын
what sort of cruising fuel economy (100-110km/h) are you getting with the stage 2 tune?
@madcabbie65797 ай бұрын
@@mad_mik I never run my car empty but on the hwy i was getting around 6.9lt per 100 klm. my trip used to show around 650-700 klm range on hwy but never tested it to empty. think around 10 or so city driving. not bad for the extra gains. Also the gearbox tune lowered the rev range so when driving at 60kph, i would be in 5th, not 6th gear. but then manually changed to 6th if i was trying to conserve fuel, which wasn't often.

MQB aint that bad reliability wise especially from the EA888 gen 3 onward. Service history is key but the water pump is hit and miss if you need to actually replace it. Oil consumption never heard of, DSGs are strong as hell and can handle power. Ive owned a tuned R for over 2 years and its been bullet proof. I know tuned MQB with normal servicing over 150km running the tune for years. Any car can have issues, these you need to think about more than your honda or toyota, and apart from the water pump/pcv change are strong drive trains.

The Mk3 TTs has been by far the best and most capable sports car I have owned. Fold down rear seats make it very practical and I don’t really mind that it’s greatly underrated. The interior is unapologetically driver focussed too. They are quite a sleeper with mild exhaust modifications and the lack of a large rear spoiler that the TT RS brandishes keeps unwanted attention away. Keep up the great reviews and good work.

One of the best car reviewing programs on you tube. The content, energy and mechanical advice is second to none. 👍🏾 Oh I had a mk3 TT and TTs and both superb cars. Shame in the US they were never available with a manual gearbox option but the DSG in both were faultless. I sourced parts ( parcel shelf and S line seat side trim ) from the internet at a fraction of the price compared to greedy Audi dealers. Not as expensive to run as you might think.

Both the coupé and roadster variants were recalled in late 1999/early 2000, to improve the car's handling predictability at very high speeds.[13] Audi's Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) or Anti Slip Regulation (ASR) were added, as well as a rear spoiler, along with modifications to the suspension system. I have a TT MK3 since 2017, and I still love it. It’s my first car with an automatic gearbox, and I’ve never regretted that decision. It picks gears perfectly and smoothly. I’m also glad it’s quattro, the few times that I pushed it really too much in the corner, I did lose grip a little, but I always felt in control. The self-parking feature isn’t always great, as it will just give up if a pedestrian sets off the sensors mid procedure. Also I remember that I had to get used to the lane assist initially (sometimes you need to push it through, if it misreads the lines), but when it goes right, it is helpful. The climate control is really good too, you can only set one temperature for the entire car, but I prefer that. Yes, the sides of the chairs are weak (I had them fixed once as well), but it feels good to sit on them, and during a drive, sometimes they randomly inflate, to remind you you’re driving a special car… one thing to mention: when you unbuckle your seatbelt, it hits a hard plastic, it’s not bad, but could have been improved. Also if you close the boot while sitting in the car, that sounds like you’re breaking something, but I think they engineered it so it sounds good for the person who closes it.
@andy-an058 ай бұрын
Exactly, my sits also randomly inflate, I even claimed it at dealership since I have warranty - they didn’t find any issue 🤷♂️

Strange review given all the problems you have mentioned. No one with any idea on these cars would go near them based upon your review. BTW what's wrong with VW underpinnings it happens in the R8 & many Lambos. Also the car may share a chassis platform with other Audis and VW's but its weight, tyre size and aero do not make it similar to a Golf GTI and it has a different MAP as well. You should do better research. I have owned a TT for 6 years now and have been on the largest Forum for these cars in the UK and the water pump has never been cited as a major issue. Mine is a 8J model and the water pump has not let go after 75,000 kilometres. I service it regularly as you should any car so not sure where you are getting all these myths from. Also do not compare it to a Cayman as the price differential both new and second hand is significant so it is not a either or for that car. I note you also could not resist inserting the hair dresser comment a number of times. I think that is both unnecessary and not very funny given their performance and obvious good looks. I remember when I bought the first model of the MX 5 back in the 90's and the holden and ford crowd called it a hairdressers car. Not sure why you would highlight this given it was something Jeremy Clarkson said 20 years ago just to get a laugh. Try and be original.

Nothing goes wrong with them because no one bought one unfortunately. Joking. On a serious note, drove a base auto (non S) coupe on an Audi drive day in 2017 back to back with an S3 Cabriolet. Liked both of those cars, but even with less power and being on the same platform the TT felt way more sports car like. Surprisingly quite unrefined compared to the other cars (A4, A5, A7, S3 Cab, Q5 and Q7), a bit loud but in my opinion the driving position was felt more sporty and the car felt faster than the S3. Having owned my dream car (NC MX-5 manual) it felt pretty good to me. I do work in an Audi dealership the only thing I've seen booking them for service / diag in was water pumps / thermostat housing - probably the one sore point on say 2017 on 2.0 TFSIs and not cheap to do at the dealer, although one of the first ones also did something stupid like I think all the widow glass unsealed and fell into the car or something bizarre like that. From brief drive, crap ride, loud but fun and fast and I'd probably not be turned off if it had an AAP warranty for a couple of years. Oh and 60k, 120k services are very expensive as you due spark plugs and transmission fluid (which one customer asked me "why is that so expensive, is it made of myrr?")

Ok so from a UK owners perspective, no it's NOT just a fancy Golf, in a world of samey looking cars the TT is a beacon of individuality, at least in my opinion...and I think VAG is stupid to cease production after 20+ years of such an iconic car. I've owned 2 TT's over the last few years firstly a Mk1 225 Quattro then something else not quite so good ($hitroen ds3, was just gutless) and now a Mk2 TT Tdi 170 Quattro, which I bought quite by accident as it happens, and have owned for a few years now, and I have to say as someone who has owned (50+) cars and driven a lot more cars over the years, having worked in the Motor Trade, My TT is just brilliant, no reliability issues, well apart from the rear light earth issue which I fixed, it handles decently, goes round corners well, and feels nicely solid on the road in dry and also more importantly wet conditions with the Quattro, and in a lot of instances a whole lot better to drive than a lot of much newer cars I've driven. Would I buy another TT.... hell yes... I never thought I'd sell my mk2, as shes pretty low mileage and I'm happy with her, but recently I've been looking at Gen 3 TT's but the spec I want seems pretty hard to find, without spending mega bucks, so as for now I think I'll be keeping my 15 year old Mk2 TT. Btw that Blue TT you have on test is just gorgeous 👍👍👍

I’ve had a Mk1 225 Quattro for 20 years, and the last 5 years I’ve also had a diesel golf which is nearly ready for the scrap yard. I’ve traded the TT in for a Mk3 TT but I’ve gone for the TDI. Diesel Power 💪 and crazy mpg 😁

Although Zsofia is a Hungarian name, the lady talking in the video is definitely not Hungarian. Hungarian is not even a Slavic language. Cheers from Hungary!

13:44 I own a convertible and had exactly this issue with drain boxes - passenger side was flooded with water, 4-5 cm deep. I claimed this directly by Audi, since user’s manual does not mention maintenance of these drain boxes, how should I know. In the end Audi refused to repair the car under warranty, they just compensated 400€ for the damage, and I paid 1100€ on top of this 🤦♂️

Seems like it's the same story with every VW product.

Water pumps. If there's anything in this world... that straw that breaks the camel's back... the thing that flips me over the edge and wants to buy an electric car, it's flipping water pumps.

This is the best channel on KZbin. Excellent content and immensely entertaining. If you ever want to review a 260Z hit me up. :D (yeah, I know, not in the demographic)

Have a 1.8T Mk3 and only issue I've had is the water pump needing to be replaced. Remapped to 265hp and 300ft-lbs, no dramas.

My 2001 tt quattro is still going strong and lots of fun to drive with a few upgrades like Haldex controller, stage 1 and few suspension and brake modes. It is a sports car because it only has two seats and with rear seats removed like the sport model there is good storage. The tt makes so much sense in northern wet climates whereas rear wheel drive sport cars are not getting the power to the ground. If you want more space get a hot hatch or an SUV! Then there is that 5 cyl engine in the newer models, just puurrfect!

Had my 2016 roadster nearly 8 years now. Had the thermostat housing / water pump done under warranty but not much else needed doing in that time. Despite being a roadster its a great fun daily driver for me, now the kids have left home. Problem is I don't want a hulking SUV and I don't want an EV so when it comes to replacing it my choices are limited. I sit in other cars and I look at their interior and think - this would be a downgrade and I would regret buying it. So I seem to be stuck with it.

Love me some TT. They are one of the most underrated quasi-performance cars, but that’s mostly because they’re better than the equivalent Golf and usually cost less. You look at basically any TT and the equivalent ‘fast’ golf is more expensive and weirdly more coveted. TTs are a bargain compared to a Golf of any kind. They feel more special and the first ones at least feel like you’re getting something quite bespoke for peanuts. If you want a real sports car, get an MX5. But if you’re buying a bloody golf, just get one of these.

My friend had one of the older models with the 3.2 liter vr6 with almost 300000 kilometers. It was and still is a good sports car and fun to drive but i never really liked the exterior design of any generation

I own a used MK2 TT base model for almost 2 years now and had a lot of issues fixed when I first got it and now its in working condition and just maintain normally until something else breaks (which I hope not) but will do take note on the water pump

Such a dream car. Unfortunately those at about 60k miles with the 2.0 TFSi cost min. 20k € in Germany. And many of them are autos and not manuals.

Well, I wanted a 5feet ship as a daily, a car that was sporty, definitely a coupe, with trunk space, and couldn't handle my 750km*2 usual trips well and without consuming too much. With all these criterias, there was actually one car that matched: Audi TT 2.0 TDI. I tried it, expected it to be a boring engine, and it actually was really cool to drive. Lots of tork, a really cool grawly sound. So if you're short on money (and you want a daily, else go and take a mx5) you should try a MK3 TDI. They are manual by default, they are cheaper both to buy and to own, and if you give them a chance, it might surprise you. With that mk3 they did a really good work on the exhaust sound, especially for a diesel.

@@raidden-1583 I have driven Diesels since I have my license. I got enough of these even had to swap the DPF of one of my cars because it literally didn't wanted to regen anymore. Thank god it was a Bimmer, therefore costs were certainly low when doing everything yourself and having the software to register is also ez peasy on BMW. But yeah, a Diesel? Nuh maybe as a Daily Comfortable Sedan I would consider going for a Diesel Skoda Superb Sedan or a Passat B8 2.0 TDi 190hp Sedan.
@raidden-15838 ай бұрын
@@xxzmk If I said "try it out", it's because everyone dislike diesels, I expected you to too. But this one, and tbh, Audi in general is really good at making sporty diesel, will surprise you. It's true tho that it's still not recommended if you do 10-20km a day and not really enough road to clear it out. Despite it's pretty tough, actually the most reliable of all mk3 tt's, but that wasn't the point.
@xxzmk8 ай бұрын
@@raidden-1583 I actually daily a diesel currently because I have to travel like 160km a day. But after april I will have to only drive about 40km a day and driving a Diesel can be frustrating at such ranges. I already had issues with my DPF despite long range travel etc. Don't get me wrong I love Diesels and how they can be really punchy and sporty but they lack Acceleration Performance in the upper 100-200 speeds and as a German who loves to speed on the Autobahn it can be frustrating when a mere Polo GTi with a 399€ Stage 1 Tune wrecks you totally on the left lane and costs in every aspect less.

Hey guys hope this saves someone the hassle of going down the Audi TT path, don’t get a mk2 unless it’s a manual, dsg maintenance and servicing is not worth it it at all. I loved my 3.2 but if I had my time over I would’ve just got it with a gear box that doesn’t bring sadness
