I was born in 1963 in Cincinnati. I got to grow up watching The Big Red Machine. I used to immulate them while playing baseball in the back yard. Lee May, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Bobby Tolen, Tony Perez, Davey Concepcion, Joe Morgan, Cesar Geronimo. How lucky was I? Priceless

I might be a Bengal fan. But I am not a Reds fan. But this is the best team ever. I don’t care how many World Series the Yankees has won. This is the best assemble team ever. The Reds had the best Catcher ever before Ivan Rodriguez arrived. One of the best first baseman in the National League. Best second baseman in baseball, best Shortstop in baseball. Best left fielder in the National League. Best defensive Center fielder in baseball. The 2 best prospects in Griffey and Driessen. This team was loaded with Super starts. And in top of that they have the best baseball player in history which to me is Pete Rose! So there were the Reds and Pete Rose. The goat!

Geronimo also batted over .300 and had a Gold Glove. He was probably the best all-around centerfielder in the league. The Reds had everything. Great starting pitching, great relief pitching, great hitting with five .300+ hitters, great power hitting, great speed, great defense, and the best manager in baseball! They had four Gold Glove Award winners up the middle of the field, in Bench, Concepción, Morgan, and Geronimo. It simply doesn’t get any better than that. As for Bench, he was better than Rodriguez. It’s not all about hitting and catching. It’s about calling a game, and Bench was the best at it. Plus, he had a high percentage in throwing people out, stealing second, and that was when the infield’s were mostly Astroturf. You could get from 1st to 2nd a lot quicker then. If Bench played today, with all the dirt base-paths, he’d probably throw out about 90% of them.
