Loved watching you break this one down! One of my top 3 RATM songs. My capitalist, patriotic dad used to get so mad when he would hear me listening to this one especially. Two weeks ago, since things are being thrown into the light and impossible to avoid unless it's intentionally, he asked what the group I used to listen to was. My answer was , "Used to?, Still do." He listened on his own. I'm happy he's making the effort. Three days ago he told me he doesn't care for the style of music, but understands and actually agrees with most of the messages. Color me shocked but happy! Dad is waking up!

Hello Brother. My name is Silvio Lopes, screenwriter and film student from Brazil, a country that became a fascist because they elected a stupid president. It's great to know that young people are rediscovering RATM, my favorite band. I never went to watch reaction videos, because the content is usually ridiculous and not very instructive, almost a small analysis of teenagers to gain "likes" instead of creating and passing on some deep thought of the messages it contains in the songs. I am grateful for your videos, which despite being a musical analysis, relaxes and creates, at least in me, a thought that should be passed on to everyone. These guys are not prophets, they just see reality. I suggest reading the book "1984" by George Orwell, which was written in the late 1940s, where in the song "Testify" there is a short passage from the book "Who controls the past now controls the future / Who controls the present now controls the past ". And a tip, listen to songs by Brazilian rappers "Racionais MCs", songs like "Diário de um Detento", "Nego Drama", "Capítulo 4, Versículo 3", I think you will like it and Brazilians will access it. Thanks and "Fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy".

First, bourgeois election means nothing. It's just a show that capitalist's making to inculcate others illusion of power over the system. Don't overestimate role of person in history, look thru that curtain. Second, fascism is the open terrorist dictatorship of the most reactionary and most imperialist elements of finance capital. Chile under Pinochet was pure example of fascism. Third, if you want to better understand Zac try to read "Manifesto of the Communist Party" at least, because Zac did this "homework" decades ago. And for understanding nature of fascism I can recommend main report delivered at the Seventh World Congress of the Communist International , it's called "The Fascist Offensive and the Tasks of the Communist International in the Struggle of the Working Class against Fascism". Stay true. Hasta la victoria siempre!

The line "Spielberg the nightmare works" - Spielberg's film company is called "Dreamworks"... But yeah, it's all about distracting people from what's actually going on - Govt trying to get a bill through that'll make you poorer or weapons trade deals for example and they don't want it to be known and discussed publicly and have opposition to it? Here, have a summer blockbuster movie? Not working to distract them enough? Here, have a war... The lines about "American eyes" to me is a double meaning - a play on "Americanize" so Hollywood can't make a movie about anything really without at least dropping in at least one dashing American to be a bad boy hero 99% of the time - and also insists on portraying Americans as hero's who will always find a way to save the day and that this is true American history or that "this is how it happened, honest..." and there's nothing else you need to know - using films to teach a history they want people to think is actual history, and as a form of psychological warfare by using films and the entertainment industry for their needs to keep us distracted. And that line about "Godzilla pure motherfuckin filler" - the song is from the Godzilla OST, so not afraid to call shit out while using them (the film) as a vehicle to get their message out as much as possible while giving it a "fuck you" at the same time publicly ;)

Most of the folks here are spot on with the lyrical content & meaning. There are a couple of things to add. The Amistad line is actually "Amistad was whip, the truth was feathered & tarred". Straight up saying that movie was whitewashed to water down the true experiences. The other about "Fourth Reich culture, Americana". The others are right about part of the meaning, the other half of that is the nod to how many actual Nazi party scientists, officers, & numerous others were brought back here to the states to "help America" recover from the war. There were many here before the war, they had parades here on US soil before WW2. The footage is sickening. I've got a lot of respect for you catching a lot of the meaning in these songs on your first time listening & seeing the lyrics. I was obsessed with these guys when they came out, I had already been listening to a lot of Bad Religion (a very political punk band) before them. I read every RATM interview in every magazine I could find. I ended up learning a lot about the state of the world at a pretty young age, I was in middle school when RATM debuted. Stay up man! ✊
@Manuz-fs9iu4 жыл бұрын
I’m sure the Amistad lyrics are slightly wrong. I’ve always thought it was “Amistad was a whip the truth feathered and tarred” I’ve always thought it was a reference to the Amistad movie that came out not long before this track and how it didn’t accurately portray the events, likely sugaring over some events

@LoreTunderin11 ай бұрын
It's also a dig at the movie industry (Amistad was a Spielberg movie based on real events), and how they always seem to get it wrong, basically re-writing history since people would rather watch the movie in than read the book about something.

“Trade in your history for a VCR” there’s a saying that says: Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. So, we trade in our history and what’s really going on for entertainment. While we’re distracted with entertainment, history is repeating itself.
@LoreTunderin11 ай бұрын
It's also a dig at the previous line, as the Spielberg movie Amistad was criticized for white washing historical events. Basically, they're saying the movie industry is rewriting history by misrepresenting what really occurred, knowing that people would rather watch the movie about something that happened than read the history book about it.

10:48 I mean i'm not even from the US and i dunno what they teach at US schools, but as an European i feel like even us (in most of Europe, often know more about the cultures that existed before we got to Africa, Asia and America, and what shitty things we did to the natives living there), than in US schools. And i find it really sad that often US Americans nowadays are still trying to deny or erase what should be teach and serve as an example of what not to repeat. A country that forgets it's failures and what it did wrong to itself and others around it, is often doomed to repeat those same actions in the future... and often they just involve death, destruction, separation exclusion. Learning about the good your country did is a good thing, but never forgetting what you did wrong in the past, is just as important! If it works for an individual life-experience, it should also work for entire countries.
