How spoilt we are for fish, friends, fires and fun....try saying that 5x fast! Have you ever met someone travelling whos story has stuck with you for a long time? If so, let us know down below.
@johnwolf282911 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, lots. But the key is to stay in touch with them, somehow, so that years later you are not sitting there going "damn, I wish I knew what happened to so-&-so, they were so cool." It can be more sad than you could imagine.... BTW; seems like just a little while ago you were struggling for 50k, and now you have almost 75k subbed! Gotta have a party once you get 100k, that is THE milestone for YT.

I've watched the Evans' and thought they rekindled my sailing obsession, but you two... you two nailed it. I need to get out and sail again. as for the squalls: The lack of solar radiation at night leads to cooler surface temperatures through radiative cooling, creating conditions that can contribute to both land and sea storm formation. During the day, the sun heats the Earth's surface, causing warm air to rise and forming various weather patterns. At night, the absence of solar radiation results in radiative cooling, potentially leading to temperature inversions where cooler air is trapped near the ground by warmer air above. This cooling can cause the air to reach its dew point, leading to condensation and cloud formation. Over the sea, similar processes occur, with the ocean's surface cooling and affecting the air above it. While nighttime cooling alone doesn't cause storms, it can create atmospheric instability, especially when combined with other factors like low-level jet streams bringing warm, moist air, and existing weather fronts. These conditions together enhance the likelihood of nocturnal thunderstorms and sea storms, demonstrating that storm formation is driven by a complex interplay of temperature gradients, moisture, and atmospheric pressure systems. I love night storms, while on land, that is.

Hoping that you’ll forgive me for writing this down, it’s my own view and well intended. I feel like you have both really changed gear and become truly comfortable, centred, both in yourselves and with your life as you’ve chosen it. Like you’ve finally learned how to exhale and revel in the next breath with confidence. You’ve come a long way from the (and I so hope that you won’t be offended) somewhat uncertain young people who took a plunge, bought the boat and set out from the UK, at the same time choosing to expose yourselves to a huge and for the most part unknown audience, to both unwanted advice and to potential criticism. It’s been a great pleasure to be vicariously with you as you’ve climbed out of your former selves to become the people that you now are, thank you for that from the bottom of my heart. You are amongst the best examples of exceptional people I’ve come across, not all that many take the leap of faith and set out to explore the world with open hearts and minds. In response to your question, I nominate you two and your story. Sail on, stay safe, love life, keep on cherishing this beautiful world and the people you meet along the way. Your journey is enriching both for yourselves and for so many people who’s lives you touch. Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻

Wow, those words were so touching. We honestly were pretty overwhelmed and uncertain for SURE back then. And whilst looking back on the footage, can make us feel a bit awkward, I’m happy it’s out there because it’s progress. It’s a sign if we can do it, anyone can. Thanks for sticking with us through it, through the tears, the laughter, the uncertainty and the doubts. We will continue sharing our story, but it’s because of people like you that we can 😊

Gas bottle valves and regulators are one of the PIAs of camping and sailing abroad ... and why so many new boats are going all electric. Whats really needed is a technological breakthrough in generator sets. They need to start using new designs of motors like the horizontally opposed free piston design developed by Durham uni in the UK or the Liquid piston rotary multifuel motor's.. you can hold a 50hp equiv motor in your hands and they have like 50 - 60 parts in total with in thr case of the LPR only two moving parts.😎 Or 4 in the case of the RFP from Durham.🇬🇧🧙♂️ Good interview and nice to see the boat.

I’d probably stay clear of large industrial pipes in the ocean. Could be a water inlet, or worse “water” outlet pipe. Or it could be just a random pipe that washed up. I’m sure y’all looked at that before swimming into it.

A word of caution while you have been away Calor in the U.K. stopped selling the small bottles. Many people said they would fill their own so I looked into the safety. You must only fill those bottles 80% full if they are filled right to the top they can explode in hot weather because the gas has nowhere to expand. So only put 4.5 kg of butane or 3.9kg of Propane in the bottle. Oh and Calor have reversed their decision after a year and are now selling bottles again.

All us yachties come across challenges to refill our gas cylinders. Most important is to not overfill a gas cylinder. The details should be marked on the cylinder to give you the details of amount of gas to fill the cylinder.

To get gas to flow from full bottle turned upside cool the bottom gas bottle and leave the top one in the sun for half hour to heat up and your gas will flow faster.
@HighTowerAU11 ай бұрын
Filling a gas bottle, i know you are on a deserted island, but if you had scales, you could watch the bottle fill by weight. Then you know if it worked. Bottles should be stamped with their empty weight, so any weight above that should be gas volume.

How much gas have you in your bottle? Get a half bucket of hot water, pour over your bottle, and watch the condensation line appear, giving you a line on your bottle. Not a 100% accurate but close. Old hot water versus a cold substance, eg, propane.
