As a rockets fan I don’t like this move. Sengun being the offensive hub caused half the team to be stagnant and out of rhythm. My only concern with him (if we pick him) is how his defense is going to translate into the NBA. His instincts and IQ look well on-ball, but I’m worried that his size will end up being an issue. I actually think even NBA teams might be underrating the shooting season he had... I ran some statistics on it and there's at least a chance he legitimately had the most efficient college shooting season ever for a legit NBA prospect (all the comparable shooting seasons either came before the FIBA three point line, or were clear "random chance" seasons by guys who weren't real prospects in the first place). I think people see he shot like 53% on a "small" sample and instantly regress that to where all the other "good" shooters are, but that's statistically very wrong to do... other "good" shooters who have a crazy shooting season shoot like 44% in college on this many attempts, not 53%! The chances of a top 100 prospect having a shooting season like his with "only" a 39% true 3P% is like... an over-performance you'd only see once every 15 years. I mean, he shot over 49% from the NBA three point line on over 80 attempts. That's insane. You can also watch the full film of every three point shot he took and see that when he wasn't being face guarded by the other team... he basically just doesn't miss. Like I think he hit like his first 15 C&S threes in a row before teams caught on and started giving him a Steph lite treatment. He could legitimately come into the league as a 45%+ three point shooter and I would not be shocked.

His defense reminds me a lot of the way Jeremy Lin played defense in the latter parts of his career. People don’t realize Lin actually led all guards in blocks per minute by a long shot. He was second amongst all guards in blocks total and blocks per game behind only John Wall despite being 6’3” with a 6’3” wingspan. Lin was a more physical than Reed though and a bit taller, but similarly deceptively athletic.

@@johndavis9321 Why not he can space the floor, and he can defend ( I'm not saying he's a lockdown defender but he can play some defense, even some of the lockdown defenders mess up once in a while on defense) , I think you could start him at the 2, or even have him come off the bench at PG or mostly at SG. Granted he's not the playmaker LaMelo is, also think about it, most Kentucky guards pan out, the only Kentucky guard I can think of who didn't pan out is Tyler Ulis , there might be another one that I'm missing.

@@scootover7 well let's be real he was a pretty good defensive playmaker at the college level he could get a lot of steals and deflections but their are still questions about just how good a defender he'll be at the next level going up against bigger stronger quicker athletes now your sugg of playing at the 2 would make the most sense as he is a lights out shooter and does have some upside as a movement shooter but I'm not gonna lie the thought of him having to guard guys like Anthony Edwards, Kyrie Irving, even Jamal Murray etc. frightens me

The offense would be great but the defense between him and LaMelo would be poor. We have seen that two offensive-minded guards paired together don't perform that well, especially in playoff settings. Maybe you could have Brandon guard POA, but I don't think that would put him the best position to succeed defensively at all.

That is what you will have to have if you want to pair Reed and LaMelo together.

Honestly if you are playing with Amen, Sengun, and Jalen Green, you don't have to worry about shot creation. Just spot up in the corner and knock down open shots off of the penetrations and double teams.

The shot creation concerns are super overblown, he acts like Reed couldn't score in iso but you can look up Synergy results of all his iso possessions (and watch them) and he scores on like 65% of them lol. His deadly shooting from both three and midrange makes it extremely hard for teams to go under so he often has a clear driving lane to the rim, even with his meh handle. They just barely called any plays for him, Cal was too busy featuring his "real" prospects Wagner and Dillingham (to the detriment of the team).

I would honestly consider taking him first overall in this draft. His ability to shoot isn’t just great, it’s special. In today’s NBA, he’s not going to have trouble getting his shot. He might not be a lead guard like Curry but more like Klay and I think he has a bit more pop off the dribble than Klay. He’s got plenty of athleticism and quickness, he’s a good playmaker. I can see him becoming a 20/5 guy in the league. If I’m the Orlando Magic I am all over this. He’d be the perfect compliment to Paolo, Franz and Suggs.
