Love that old school Red Dragon. Was always one of my favorite corals in our reef. The beauty of the coral never changed but the price has. Thank goodness.

I’ve done live to live glueing many times before, to fix accident frags or reshape the colony. Works extremely well and heals fast.

Corals can be out of water a lot longer then most people think. On more than one occasion I have had corals out of water for about 10hrs. In Canada we don't have the liquid exemption for living things as carry on so I've brought frags back on a plane wrapped in paper towels without water. Dump the water before going through security wrap in paper towel and then when get home put them in frag tank. The first time I did this I did it in the family washroom as I was too embarrassed to wrapping corals in a public washroom. The next time did it in the hotel before going to airport. If I was buying a ton of stuff I'd pay and have it checked but for a few frags this is more economical plus it put them to the test as to how they would do. I wouldn't do this with anything really fleshy or super expensive but besides acros, cyphastrea and any type of encruster and zoanthids ect did well.

There is a Phyllodesmium nudibranch that specifically eats Xenias. I wonder if they would be able to establish a balance between fast growing Xenia and the rest of the tank? In general such predator-prey balances is something that interests me in tanks- if they can be maintained

Great video Jake! What would one of those mini colonies sell for in an lfs?
@ReefBuildersVideo2 жыл бұрын
I think nice large frags/ mini colonies could sell from between $60 to $100 depending on local availability.

What's with the shelf above your fragging station? Looks like all the aquarium toys that time forgot. That said, good work with chopping that monster down, I do have to say I was cringing with the dental pick action, not from your technique but I recently had a cleaning and a lot of similar sounds were being made 🤣🤣
@ReefBuildersVideo2 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what the shelf is for!

We don't sell any corals but Red Dragon is a very common strain in the hobby that you should be able to source in many countries and regions.

Don’t think any of the tangs in the tank eat valonia do they?

I don't think they eat established Valonia per se but their constant grazing of all the rocks certainly helps to keep it from establishing itself in the first place.
