Excited to see more long-term, unbiased product reviews! Thanks for kicking off this series. One suggestion: consider using a slightly more casual tone and improving the audio quality. At times, the voiceover was a bit too loud and distorted.

Videos dope. Have Remy use his radio voice and give you some pointers on presentation. I think wavemakers is an old topic there’s a million out there nowadays. If you wanted to be on the razors edge, compare the new hydros stuff to whatever it needed compared to, like the dosing pumps or something. Or compare the new bolus method and see if it’s as up to snuff as they say it is or an in depth unbiased salt review, that’s never happened in the hobby.

This is a welcomed pivot from the “every review is an advertisement” environment we are in. Would have loved to see a comparable Tunze in this showdown, and show the pumps flow pattern on a 20-30g tank as that is more realistic use case.

Yes definitely the unbiased product reviews are needed. To many reviews on the latest and greatest new whatever product and it’s a must have just because they have ties to the brand or just pushing it out to make money. Thank you reefbuilders definitely looking forward to more reviews!!!!

I think it’s a great video. I think it’s good you see the graphs. I’d look at how brs used to do their graphs. They explained what they were testing and showed you a giant graph of the product and the test on different axis. Then as each test came in you would see the actual number go into that section of the graph and it will give a better visual representation of how pumps etc compare in real time. I think brs did that well and encourage you to something different. Overall good video Salem

@travertinepico75123 күн бұрын
Also maybe use an air stone under the pumps to help visualize the flow in the tank. The color dye looks cool but only works for a second. The air bubbles will get carried through the tank and you will be able to visualize the currents better over a longer time period

Pumps that would be interesting to test: Jecod MOW-22 Tunze 6105 eco Ecotech MP40 Maxspect Gyre Aquamedic smart drift 3.1 A sneak peak of how an old pump would behave could be a defined amount of vaseline per surface area of the rotative Magnet/parts. Noise measurements are in dB which is logarithmic. 😉

Joking aside, I would assume most people aren’t going to know what to do with some of this data. You can tell us how many decibels the noise is, but to the average reefer, we don’t know what that means entirely. Just tell us if ReefBuilders thinks it’s quiet or not. Did it pass the quiet test? Or did it fail?

Great review format! I will have to agree with others with audio quality, video quality can improved. I would really like to see comparison graphs presented when discussing numbers…there were LOTS of number. Having a chart/graph showing a comparison with addition of each pump data would be great so we can see the comparison, most of us will be watching in our living room and not taking notes.

I have 2x Hygger 042. It’s like the cheapest DC flow pump ever, but they’re silent and generate a lot of flow (claim is “2114 GPH”). On max output they are still quieter than my Sicce Syncra Pro return pump AC.

This was good, but I would say the pumps used are all different styles. I’d like to see the following compared in groups of pump styles: Sicce Xstreme Jecod SOW Tunze Stream Jecod MLW AI Nero Hygger Jecod dmp 40 Ecotech mp40 + the gyre style pumps This way we could directly compare price to performance for like products. This was still interesting though, and kind of showed that whilst the Hygger was much cheaper it had pretty useless flow compared to the other two.. but is that because of the style of pump or the individual manufacturer?
@salemclemens614825 күн бұрын
I like this idea - my goal was to compare pumps 2000 GPH or so that were controllable but this makes more sense as an organizational matrix
@insanity422425 күн бұрын
@@salemclemens6148lol you replied before I could even finish an edit 😅 Yes I think the actual flow rate is important but less so than comparing like with like. This video gave more information about the flow pattern different pump styles make more than anything.

Great concept and something the hobby sorely misses. Some feedback Pacing is a bit off. Take your time. Audio wasn't great. If you use B-roll and just record a separate audio track and overlay it you can easily swap out the audio if you catch any errors (ie -Teslas vs Gauss). It will also stop the echoey sound quality. Qualitative nature of the flow cones. Yes but here you could still add some discussion. I don't do quantification of histology images in my papers but I do discuss them. At the end of the video it would've been nice to see the numbers as well as the red green labeling. If you guys ever start presenting data that needs statistical analysis or you want to move away from excel generated graphing options, I have access to graphpsd prism. Would be happy to volunteer/contribute/collaborate Nice to see this kinda content come back to reefing.

I want to know power-to-flow efficiency vs. just energy efficiency. More important to understand what 10 watts gets me in A vs. B. I don’t trust the advertised flow rate values. Biggest spec I want independent testing on.

Not sure I like the video format of this. Aside from the poor video and audio quality, there’s a lot of filler for just data. Be better off just publishing an article with all the details in a clean and clear format. I don’t want to search through a video hunting down all the data scattered throughout the video that’s shown for 2 seconds at a time. Maybe publish a video showing how tests are done and leave the results in article format

Reef Builders I gotta give it to you straight: Good concept but poor delivery. This video had way too much useless information and on three separate products. If you’re gonna do a deep dive like that, then maybe try sticking to one pump at a time. Alternatively, you could try showing the best uses for each pump: where one excels and the others are lacking. Just food for thought.
