Great seeing where my fish and corals come from, maybe you could inform us if all the Sydney shops you visited use Cairns Marine for their stocks? I suspect they do, I know on their FB page you see a fish or coral you like and tag your local store and they make sure it goes out in the next shipment. Looking forward to part 2👍

Great seeing a wholesale place be that meticulous with their fish. From what I hear, here in LA, it's not the same and the places have tons of dead and sickly fish. That was a great treat, and the Napoleon, OMG! LOVE! It is someone disconcerting to see so many of one particular fish but when you sit and think about how big the GBR is, then you're like OK, as long as it is sustainable!

Mr. Adams, I have been looking for some online places to purchase Australian fish, but to my knowledge, they only ship to wholesalers. Do you know any sites in the states that sell any fish from Australia? P.S. I have been thinking of starting a reef tank with black sand, that main show aquarium sold it for me. The colors pop and look incredible with that black sand! Only issue is it does make debri and junk stand out when dirty. Thanks for your feedback!
@nietrelevant33386 жыл бұрын
how exactly do they take sustainability into consideration? i've always wanted a salt water tank, but i feel like almost all sp. are wild caught which i'm very much against.

I’ve been to Cairns marine myself nearly 10 years ago now. It seems sad at first that these fish are taken from the ocean however the collection areas are rotated to prevent over harvesting. Also it is in the best interest for the business NOT to over harvest and to monitor populations.
@chir0pter2 жыл бұрын
I think it would be really cool to see tanks that are like single-biome based. In particular I love the twilight reef species- do you know of any aquariums that present say an Australia midwater reef?
@AbsoluteZero6714 Жыл бұрын
Maybe you guys use a different time but the term used in North America is usually “Mesophotic reef.” Let me think, off the top of my head: Angels- Genicanthus watanabei (Watanabei’s Angelfish) Genicanthus melanospilos (Swallowtail Angelfish) Maybe Genicanthus bellus (Bellus Angel) too if they’re found in Australia. Centropyge colini (Colin’s Angelfish) Paracentropyge multifasciata (Multi-Bar Angelfish) Centropyge multicolor (Multicolor Angelfish) Chrysiptera starcki (Starck’s Damselfish) Also look into wrasses, Basslets (not sure which ones can be found in Australia). Lots of deepwater options for those. Butterflies too.

people commenting on the fact they are taken from the wild... 95% of all marine fish in the aquarium trade worldwide are taken from the wild. It isn't a good thing, I hope more efforts and funding go into the captive breeding of saltwater fishes.

it's like cardinal tetras it seems like a lot but really it isn't that much compared to how many are born and grow up. really the biggest threat to fish isn't collecting for the pet trade.it's farming, chemicals like the kind you spray on the lawn,massive food fisheries,ect.
@taylorc22627 жыл бұрын
Yeah but I don't think anyone realizes how much we realy impacting I hope to see people farm more of our fish we want
