LOL, I appreciate the clarification to "300% a water changes a week". Just when my brain was about to explode, I read the 3 100% water changes a week (which is still a lot, but at least they aren't changing water from another dimension)

My brain thought he was draining the tank completely, refilling completely, then draining immediately, refilling, then draining again. I was trying to figure out how that would be an improvement over a 100% lol

Been doing Pico reefs for several years now. Had lots of success and failures. I find them much easier to maintain. Trimma Gobies are excellent additions. Currently have tank raised trimma goby from biota and 2 Catalina gobies. I have. Finally been able to find the perfect cylinder tank but a shame the tank isn't high quality but still is nice.

Ben's Pico Reefing how can the corals touch though? that’s the part that kinda baffles me
@benspicoreefing21695 жыл бұрын
@@b1eedingr0mance certain species are okay touching each other. Sometimes they get along other times they don't. But they will always compete for space. Even though you can't see there could be coral warfare where they send out sweepers or chemicles to attack the surrounding corals. Carbon can help remove these chemicles attacks as well.

This might be a silly question but I want to build either a Nano or Pico reef tank, regarding the 'rock/stone' that everybody places the coral, etc on. Well, I've got a big piece of natural Amethyst that I've owned for years, I've compared sizes to the rocks they have for Nano Reefs in stores and I'm wondering if I'd be able to use my Amethyst as an alternative?
@StudioGhibletz3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure about amethyst but most stones leak stuff into the water. However, it it works I'd wanna see it!

How do you get the bacteria started pre-coral and how does the bacteria not all get reset to zero with each water change
@hunner42653 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, the bacteria that grows on your rock will survive through the water changes, the same way it would build and survive in a natural environment. Even if the tide sinks the bacteria will survive until the water comes back

crap am i under lighting my lifegard 7 gal pico?? i have the fluval sea and flvaul plant led lights in a row over top my tank about 10 inches above the tank top. clean glasstop so par thru that should be fine. pico lighting i found to be the toughest part of having a reef tank you are assembling from different companies to make it work. has been a bit of a struggle to find the perfect set of %'s with each spectrum. on full blast the lights are pretty dang bright and grow algae way too quick for my liking but the coralline algae and other corals seem to soak it right up and love that setting but other corals are suffering from it. and at medium lighting those corals that dont do well at high lighting tend to slowly die with medium lighting so i find myself constantly changing the lighting ever so slightly to tweek and get the right set of number %'s.
@asadh78664 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify the water changes: they are completely depleting the tank and replenishing at once or doing water changes proportionate to 30% water change at each time? I have a pico reef started as well but I’m struggling because of very high levels of ammonia
@XxPumpinChickxX4 жыл бұрын
your tank should still be cycling then. dont change water until ammonia is 0

When you say you dont dose the aquarium does that mean you dont feed corals? like reef roids or oyster feast, ect?

I'm running a 3.7 gallon and I generally do an 80% to 100% water change once a week but every person iv talked to tells me that "I ABSOLUTELY should not be doing 100% water changes." Why is that they never fully explain😅 I mean its about 4 months old and I hanvt lost anything
@rc2300s2r4 жыл бұрын
It’s just a stability thing. Larger % water changes could shock the system if the new water’s parameters are “largely” different from the old water. You know temp, alk, ph and so on. Smaller % water changes allow for acclimation to potentially small swings.

How do u do 100% water changes, doesnt a dry tank, even if temporarily dry have a die off effect on the corals or some other negative effect?
@Greego5 жыл бұрын
It's per week and you wouldn't do it all at once since it would drain the tank. You would spread the water changes out over days.
@bobbymelton98285 жыл бұрын
I drain it until the syphon breaks then refill it. I do most all the fragging here at the retail location. Most corals can stay out of water for 5-10 minutes with out causing any damage.
@Greego5 жыл бұрын
@@bobbymelton9828 I have kept some of mine out even quite a bit longer without issues. I just avoid allowing them to dry out.
