With the little boy, you'll see that they did the test on him and it turned red- that showed them he was infected. I missed it the first time too. There was a sign on the wall showing that it depends on where you get bit for how long it takes you to die/turn. She was telling him she'd give him toys and clothes and his favourite foods to make him happy as they were killing him with the injection. Such a crazy series, I hope you keep watching! It is a roller coaster for sure!

Yeh, 100% spot on. I always think when watching these types of shows that humans biggest downfall is their inability to trust others and work together, which is exactly what would happen if it was ever to become a reality.

one of things stupid people will never get it, that’s why it’s called the last of us cause it’s about the last of us as in “humanity”
@Khornedevotee
@Khornedevotee 2 ай бұрын
@@WhiteViper1992 Wars and hard times do have a habbit of making humans come together. Look at World War 2 for example. It makes people of various countries being forced to work together to defeat a common enemy. That has almost always been the case throughout history. People do know that there is strength in numbers, which is why we see these huge colonies consisting of various people banding together to form a stronger society. But, we also see some sick people, which is why it's hard for loners to trust some of these people and especially lone stragglers wandering about. That has also been true throughout history. Bandits on the roads for example. Not so common these days but during the Middle Ages for instance, that's when bandits were almost everewhere in the various forests, setting up camp near the roads, so that they could steal trade goods from traders so peasants, burghers(townspeople), traders and merchants didn't always like the idea of traveling through the woods alone. It became less common over the centuries but pirates became more common as trade merchants traveled across the ocean instead, but in time, that too declined. And yes, there are people you cannot trust today, but there are many more you can trust, even though it may not immediately seem so. But yes, there have been chaotic rampages by people during Covid, stealing things and doing selfish acts to get what they want in dark times. But how long did that last? Not that long actually, unlike what we see in movies and tv-shows of the Apocalypse. But then, we haven't really had apocalyptic events like those seen in The Walking Dead or The Last of Us or similar before, but I still feel that the military would instill order relatively quickly. And for some reason the military are some of the first to go, such as in The Walking Dead, but in reality they would be the last to go. It's very complex reflecting on what would actually happen in such a world. Let's hope it will never come to that.

Woohoo!! YES!! Please keep going, it's SOO good, omg! What's crazy is that the fungus in the show, Cordyceps, is a REAL fungus that infects ants in real life, and like the scientist said in the intro, it currently doesn't infect people, so the premise of "what if that changed?" is at least partially based on something real which makes it more terrifying than the typical supernatural zombie explanation. The game that this is based on came out in 2013, but it definitely hits different after the pandemic. Just seeing how nuts everyone went for toilet paper, if something lasted for 20 years we'd be in all kinds of trouble. One of the main themes of the story is that it's always other people that are the scariest part of any crisis. I hope you keep watching, it keeps getting better and better, you're gonna love it. Cheers

What's fun is that Cordyceps isn't just infects the ants. Several species of insects have their own Cordyceps. Cordyceps, while scary for the insects they infected, are actually keeping the nature balanced, they kept those insects' population in check. Also, Cordyceps' are believed to have health benefits for humans and are being consumed in certain parts of the world. 😁

Asia, BJ, if I'm not mistaken i think you both missed the most importantly part of the ending. When Tess scans Ellie, it reads a red light indicating that she is infected. Ellie explains that it was from 3 weeks ago and she didnt change. She's immune. Thats why Ellie is important. I think at that moment you two were discussing the little boy from earlier because you realized what really happened in that scene. Definitely keep watching. Cheers!

How a video game has such great story telling is why this became one of the best, if not the best video game ever. And for HBO to be able to pull it off and create something so authentic to the game is impressive in itself. I hope you guys continue to react to this series. I'm here for it.

Great reaction y'all. If you recall the episode opened up on Joel's birthday. Sarah, Joel's daughter, took some $$ to get his watch fixed as a present for him. The watch was damaged that night when they were confronted by the soldier and Sarah was killed. The date signifies not only Joel's birthday, but the day that the world changed due to the fungus infection, and is a constant reminder of Sarah's death. When Ellie told Joel his watch was broken Joel winced a little because of the memories attached to his watch.

The guy in the beginning didn't meant that we lose people, he meant that we lose as a species. And red = bad. The boy was infected so the tester showed that he was positive. The woman was just comforting him while putting him down (you would not inject medicine through dirty clothing). You were able to see a sign that showed symptoms of cordyceps infection, as well as the time it takes until full infection, based on where you have been bit. In the case of the boy he was wounded in the leg, which would imply 12-24 hours, for a kid probably much less. They're not zombies though, they're infected, as they aren't undead. The fungi can't do much when the host dies. In the game the time plays 10 years later than the show. Ellie is so important because she's immune. She had been bit about 3 weeks ago, as explained at the end there.

20:25 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. As a fan of the game I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. So damn close to the game plus more informations and filled gaps. Absolutely masterpiece! The song at the end ist "Never let me down again" from Depeche Mode (1987)

Near the end of this video, Asia mentions "I guess it takes time". When the boy in the red shirt is sitting in the wheelchair, there's a cutaway shot of a poster on the wall that gives a general guide for how long someone has before they "turn". Getting bit in the leg or lower body, takes longer than getting bit in the upper body or neck, for instance. This is directly related to what the doctor was explaining in the opening scene of the show - how the fungus eventually makes its way to the brain to start controlling the person. Getting bit higher up means the fungus has a shorter distance to travel. And yes, that female FEDRA officer was essentially lying to the kid to keep him calm while the other officer administered the lethal injection.

The fungus was in the flour that was used in the biscuits the old lady was eating at the beginning of the show. It was in the cookies too. And the pancakes that Sara had for breakfast. When the old lady had that freakout in the background, that was the fungus taking root in her brain and taking command of her. Sara was infected too. She realizes that in the car while they're trying to escape the mayhem. Neither Tommy nor Joel ate any of the food that had flour in it, so they survived.

Basically Joel's brother, Tommy, is missing, so Joel wants to escape that QZ to go look for him. In the meantime he's now caught in this situation where he has to take Ellie, who is somehow immune to the fungus to the Fireflies headquarters, exchanging her (she's cargo) with the batteries and supplies Joel wants to go after Tommy.

15:35 Remember what the scientist said in 1968… the fungus takes over the host and makes it a puppet. It keeps the person alive takes control. That’s how grandma could walk.

I love watching you two! I watch every day and you make me smile and laugh especially on the days I’m missing my husband who passed away unexpectedly 12 years ago. I can’t wait to see more! Hello from South Carolina ♥️♥️♥️

I really enjoyed the show. They did a pretty good job translating the game to television and left more in than I thought they would. Just watch out for spoilers and people taking issues with some of the themes-hopefully everyone will be respectful!

This is such an amazing series, so happy you're reacting to this! In my opinion, the best adaptation of a game (the Last of Us 1 and 2 games are absolutely epic). I can't wait until you both move through the series and learn more, there's so much to unpack and get through...enjoy Asia and Bj! 🙏

Quick question. Does the editing get any better? This episode left me feeling like I was constantly missing something. Did you watch the TV series HEROES? I was so angry after each episode. I finally stopped watching it altogether. I just don't want to get into another mess like that one.

fyi of the forms of fungus, the fruiting growth with a cap is the most known, as mushrooms. the lesser known "roots" are known as mycelium, the strands. this by far is the largest part of fungal networks. some species form mold as fuzzy bits. then there are airborne spores which can be spread by the cap or mycelium, depending on species. they chose not to use spores for the tv show.
