It is suggested that Missy doesn't regenerate. However, this is the Master we're talking about. He always survives.

There's also the fact that they left the Master's regeneration ambiguous enough to where the next regeneration may not be Missy. For all we know, The Master could've had at least 1 more incarnation between he and Missy that we never saw.

Evan Bagwell this hasn't been stated but ya know missy when she pinned The Master against the wall and stated she got through against a wall by 'her' and told to always carry a rematerialisation (sorry if that's misspelled) circuit, and then after the Doctors little speech to the master and then saying to Missy "Stand with Me" then she held his hand as if she was placing something in it, well I bet she remembered the master would kill her, and that rematerialisation circuit, would rematerialise MISSY, at the Doctors own accord.

The references to tears and hope is (in addition to quoting Capaldi back to him) is also a callback to Jon Pertwee's 3rd Doctor final scenes with Sarah Jane Smith. ‘A tear, Sarah Jane? No, don’t cry. While there’s life there’s…’ the word he doesn't get to say is...hope. And the 1st Doctor's line 'Hello? Who's there? Hello?' taken directly from his final scenes.

It all depends on what your friend likes. For beautiful visuals: Rings of Akhaten For scares: Blink For character driven: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship For thrills: The God Complex To simply get your friend hooked: The Pilot. I've used all of these but Blink on new whovians and Rings of Akhaten got the best reaction, but mostly because the girl I showed it to enjoys all prosthetics and unusual costumes and she loved all the different aliens.

+ETSubmariner If you're talking about the "regeneration" in the Monk episode, that *was* fake. The Doctor has given off Regeneration energy before (Angels take Manhattan for River) without regenerating. Which is why he asked Nardole if it was too much. The Cyberman electric hug *is* what killed him (and the shots from the other Cybermen).

If your going to introduce someone to doctor who, then "Dalek" would be the best introductory episode in my opinion
@seangleeson8073

Hmm . . . For Modern-day Who, Blink is a fun intro-episode, but the problem is the lack of the Doctor. I tend to introduce people to the show by pairing that one with another great horror-themed episode, Midnight. They're both fairly stand-alone, which is good, because it lacks the potential confusion factor of other great episodes that require more knowledge of the show. I don't know how much Classic Doctor Who you've seen, but I do Presentations at Conventions about what to watch there and how to get into that, so if you want to introduce someone to the show going that for back, the 4th Doctor's City of Death is a great "See if you like this!" serial.
@johntate6537
@johntate6537 7 жыл бұрын
I agree that Blink is a really good episode to introduce people, and Midnight, for essentially the same reasons. They have all of the darkness, the humour and the cleverness of Dr Who, but wrapped up in stand-alone episodes that don't really require background. Fine choices, Sean.

One little design detail that I loved in this episode was the design of the Master's Dematerialization circuit. It's Exactly the same design seen for the first time during the 3rd Doctor's second season where we see the Doctor's and Master's Demat circuits for the first time. Such an awesome little callback for the classic series fans there. Anyway a great episode all around I loved it! Its wonderful that the Mondasian Cybermen finally get a Genesis story onscreen. (Although even better than this version, is the one done by Big Finish a few years ago called "Spare Parts". Man that was a great story! This one's great too, but I still think I like that one a bit better.)

Here is an idea for a new Doctor Who spinoff drama series which I call (Beyond the Tardis). Other spinoffs have been somewhat restricted by having to rely on such things as a regular cast and being set in one place and time. Beyond the Tardis would have a different cast each week and be set anywhere in space and time. One week you could have a story about a previous companion and what they’ve been up to since leaving the Doctor’s side. The next you could have an origin story explaining why Davros ended up in a wheelchair, why the Sontarans start cloning themselves and what life was like for the Silurians before they went into hibernation. Plus there would be prequel and sequel stories relating to any of the past Doctor Who seasons, even those from the original run. You could have a story set before the Doctor turns up in London during the Dalek occupation, then have one set years after he saved the Roman family in the story (The Fires of Pompeii). The possibilities for this type of series are endless and give a writer the chance to let their imagination run wild. The Doctor wouldn’t be seen in it; though you may get to see the Tardis dematerialize at the start of a story and materialize at the end of one. Trev from East London, UK.

I have a friend that you are similar to. She got me hooked on the Doctor but whereas she favors the new serials (Eccleston and on up) I decided to start all the waaaaaaaaaay back to William Hartnell as the first Doctor in 1963. I have now seen every (available) episode since then. I cherish the friend that introduced the Doctor to me and I hope that your friend will get as much joy as I have and as you have.

Gridlock is my favorite episode, and I feel like it would be a great episode to introduce someone to the show. It's not too out there (apart from the Face of Boe and the cat people) and it draws you in from the start. It's also a nice introduction to Gallifrey and the Doctor's past.

After some thought, I think that a good episode to introduce Doctor Who to a new person would be School Reunion S02E03. This is because it goes along way in explaining the relationships that the doctor has with his companions. It helps to explain where The doctor has come from (and indeed the show). It has a quite famous guest star in Anthony Head (of Buffy fame). It's also a good mixture of fun and horror.

Firstly, thank you! Love the content. Reaction suggestions for previous Who with your friend, whilst we wait the long wait to Christmas... There's a bunch to go at, but maybe take the Season 5 opening (which is a great re-boot introduction for newbies), and see if they'll consider going from there on their own? Then perhaps we might get you to revisit with them again when they reach The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang...? A man can dream. Regardless, thanks again!

you missed what the Master said. He told Missy to not bother trying to regenerate, he blasted her with the full force and she won't be able to regenerate. Missy is supposedly the last of the Master. For the episode to show your friend, I feel like, since you really love season ten, show her the first episode of season ten, The Pilot. It is beautifully written so that if you are new to Doctor Who you can start watching it. That is why I love this season so much. It is so fantastic to watch as a lover of Doctor Who and show others who know nothing about it (Also Bill, God I love Bill). But If you need to, show your friend Rose. If you don't want to start from season ten, then go straight to the beginning with Christopher Eccleston. I feel like the first episode of the tenth season or the first episode of the first season. LOVED your Reactions. Though I am annoyed I had more tears than you. Ha! Ha! This was, in my opinion, the best Episode of Season 10. I have to disagree with it being a simple Episode with just the Cybermen attacking a small Village. There was SO MUCH to this Episode and some People missed it. There were points of view of the Children, the adults, Bill, the Master, Missy and the Doctor. Not forgetting ALL the slip ins of past Episodes. It is sad that the Doctor did not find out Missy had changed and wanted to be with the him.

I think Capaldi's kindness speech is second only to his war speech. Most people seem to miss that he quoted Tennent twice. "It's starting. I've had an idea since "The Next Doctor" (the Christmas one with David Morrison) for a way to introduce the next Doctor without announcing them - have a multi-Doctor episode, where the CURRENT Doctor is the one from the past meeting their future self; better yet, have him/her not realise it at first, until maybe halfway or so through the episode (maybe a two-parter, where the cliffhanger is the current Doctor finding another TARDIS, and then realises this odd person s/he has met is their future self). That way, assuming the BBC and/or The Sun doesn't ruin the surprise we can suddenly have an actor who was seemingly playing a one-off character revealed as the next Doctor. How fun would THAT be!? :-)

Someone may have already mentioned it in the 100+ comments but with the Master killing Missy... as a later regeneration she remembers him doing that, so even though he tried to kill her outright with no hope of regeneration, she would have planned for that, like her previous 'deaths'. We'll see the Master again to be sure.

Great reaction. Your face after the amazing kindness speech when the Master just twists the knife, totally unmoved... Didn't film myself watching it but I suspect that's exactly how I looked. This version of the Master is a bit less cuckoo for cocoa puffs than in the RTD era (makes sense, he doesn't hear the sound of drums anymore) and Simm really plays him as the villain you love to hate. And as an entry point, i'd say 'The Eleventh Hour' (new Doctor, new companions, new showrunner, even a new TARDIS - not a bad jumping on point at all IMO). With the caveat that if your friend gets hooked they should go back and watch the best of _all_ the previous Doctors.

Any seasons openers or big episodes would be good, 'Rose', or 'The Christmas Invasion' or maybe 'Deep Breath or 'The Pilot'. Maybe even a season finale that didn't have too big of a story arch towards it (can be understood more or less as a stand alone episode) as this would introduce the friend to the dynamic of the show, and the concept of regeneration, maybe the 'Bad Wolf' and 'Parting of the Ways' story from season 1??

I think just like John Simm's master back in Tennant's era, Timelords are able to put off their regeneration if they wanted too. Not necessarily because your dying, say you're getting too old or getting too damaged at the point where it Thinks you need to regenerate. The Doctor will actually die if he keeps putting off his regeneration. But I'm sure the first doctor will convince 12 to start this new cycle of doctors again, since 12 is actually the first of his newly given regeneration cycle.

Great review and reaction as ever Nadya. Total head-f at the end too - amazed that that didn't leak (or, if it did, I avoided the news). Really going to be interested to see where that goes at Christmas - if it's a missing adventure the first doctor had just before his regeneration, or if we've entered some sort of weird mind-space in the doctor's own head. As for what episode of Who to show your friend? Everyone will probably say Blink - but while that's a brilliant episode, I'm not convinced it's Doctor Who at it's best - or rather, it's so not a normal Doctor Who episode, it only half counts. Could I suggest the library two-parter from Season 4? It's a fantastic episode, has some great creepy bits, introduced an enigmatic new character (and kills her off), does the timey-wimey stuff just like Blink (the screwdriver thing is yet another one of Moffat's Beethoven paradoxes), has some good comedy moments and shows the show off at it's best. Plus you get to force her to watch two episodes for the price of one!

Personally. I would suggest a two-parter... "Silence In The Library"/"Forest Of The Dead"... so many brilliant concepts that just blew my mind at the time. If it had to be a one-parter, for me it would have to be "Eleventh Hour" - that never gets old.

I really enjoyed 'The Doctor Falls' although it was not without it's problems. I really enjoyed the Master/Missy sub-plot and how they had a self destructive nature which ended in a sort of suicide. I really enjoyed Nardole exit and for me he had the best line in the episode, “You're wrong, you know. I'll never be able to find the words." That line really chocked me up. What a great and wonderful and emotional episode. Well done everyone. I enjoyed the 1st Doctor's 'surprise' return but I wish that they had quoted William Hartnell rather than Richard Hurdnall but David Bradley nailed the part in the short clip that we had. 6hrs...I want to thank you for the last 12 weeks reactions/reviews. I have really enjoyed your blogs and as many of my friends are not 'Doctor Who' fans it has been good to hear others views. I appreciate that you have worked hard in bringing us some quality videos over the last 3 months and I look forward to your blogs (if you have any) leading up to Christmas and your Christmas review. Many thanks and have a great day, Kevin.

The thing that got me the most, is that Missy died trying to do the right thing, for once. Standing with her friend in his final battle, that's all she ever wanted. Quoting River Song: "Without hope. Without witness. Without reward" Without any hope of survival. Without any witness to fool. Without any reward, because it was one of those situations, one of those moments where there's no way out. She chose to do the right thing. She didn't betrayed her friend at the end. But the Doctor won't know that. I'm not crying, you're crying.

I believe The Doctor has been fighting his regeneration since Bill shot him. Because he can't just shake that off without some kind of special thing (like the meta crisis). Moreover, it's very poetic, like every other Doctor went. A test of his best friend's faith, combined with his own vanity. His belief that perhaps he could hold it off until needed.

I have a theory that the Doctor was secretly fighting off regeneration all season. Remember in Knock Knock when Bill asks about regeneration and he quickly changes the subject.

one good episode to introduce someone in DW is midnight in the four seasons, about the finale, I've got so frustrated, the Doctor doesn't want regenerate, he wants to die and end the cicle :/ except this I loved this episode, it was so well done, and everything seemed to fit together. I can't believe that I will have to wait until Christmas.

I agree with your comment that the last two episodes did Peter Capaldi justice to his acting. He has been very good throughout his time as Doctor Who. With regards to which Doctor Who episode someone should watch who has not seen the programme before, that is very difficult. I go back to Tom Baker's time as the Doctor and it was sad when Mary Tamm left the show (Romana) as she was gorgeous, clever and the Doctor's equal. Can I also thank you for showing your reactions to this series. I have enjoyed them. Your are a lovely girl, Nadia!

Hello 6Hrs. Wonderful reaction to the Season 10 finale. I would recommend Smith and Jones because it sets the tone of that dynamic pairing of 10 and Martha Jones, just like 12 and Bill Potts a decade later. I love your reactions / reviews to Season 10, I will watch them all over again to remind me...to some mark...ish. Great video, and thanks.

Missy won’t regenerate, it says in the episode “don’t bother trying to regenerate, you got the full blast!” But The Master will probably still come back. Always does!

Midnight. It's one of the best episodes, and it requires no prior knowledge of the show.

It has to be Vincent and The Doctor to introduce somebody to the show, easily the best episode and covers all emotions of the show

It's even more fitting than you said that the First Doctor show up here; it's clear that Twelve arrived right at the end of "The Tenth Planet," the first appearance of the Cybermen and the First's last. At the end of the story, he went back to the TARDIS and collapsed on the floor; his companions got back just as it was taking off on its own, and they were just in time to witness the regeneration. Missy's death was also very fitting. The Master hated the Doctor so much that he chose to die at his own hands rather than become his ally. And this might not be his last appearance. We know that he's about to regenerate, but Missy's memory of the event is very fuzzy. Maybe there were other lives she's forgotten about between the Simm and Gomez versions. Who knows? And...oh, the ideas I'm getting...

I noticed something! The old cybermen (the ones Bill is in) has round eyes, just like ALL the other cybermen, but all the other cybermen, has eyes, with small tear shapes.. except this version.

The full version of the The Eleventh Hour would be a good episode to show some one. It's a clean start, emotional, has action, and not to out there for a new person.

Blink is a good introduction episode. It's a good time travel story without need of knowing who The Doctor is, who plays a minimal role in the episode.

I'd use Vincent and the Doctor for a new viewer. It is stand alone, has a lot of the Doctor, and is very emotional. Blink fails on the second point, but is still another good choice. Midnight, maybe? The Pilot and Eleventh hour are good season opener choices, but I think have too much that pays off later. For the same reason I wouldn't pick a River Song episode, even though they are my favourite.

If you are breaking in a newbie on Dr Who, it has to be 'Blink' to start off with. Then show them season 1 onwards in order.

I don't have a suggested episode but there will be plenty from others in the comments. I do have something you may need to think about if you go with an emotional episode. Unless what brings out the "feels" as young people call it nowadays is self contained within the episode it will not grip a new viewer the way it does those of us who have followed the show for a while and became emotionally invested in the characters. Major events such as a goodbye to a companion or a regeneration scene will not only spoil the event for the new viewer if they decide to begin watching the show after your introduction, but will also not have anywhere near the impact it should if they have only had one episode to become attached to the person. All that being said, I always enjoy your reactions. I only know one person other than myself in this area who enjoys the show so the only way for me to interact with others who share my passion for this show is to seek out reaction videos such as yours. Seeing others who share in the excitement of a new episode is always wonderful. I also enjoy going back and watching older reactions for the same reason the Doctor said that he keeps companions around (I can't remember which Doctor at the moment). I can only watch these episodes for the first time once. Watching reactions to older episodes is almost like seeing them again for the first time, just through the eyes of the reactor. Before I continue in creating a wall of text, I will cut it off by saying thank you for sharing your experiences watching this show with us. I have truly enjoyed them and hope you will be able to continue sharing long into the future.

I think I made a mistake when I tried to introduce my Dad to Doctor Who a year or so ago and had him watch "Rose". Even though it is a pretty good episode there are many that are better, especially in a show like this. Honestly, I'd say that the 9th Doctor episode "Dalek" would probably be a very great choice to introduce your friend to. Now, "Blink" is a great episode but is pretty Doctor-lite.
