The Bimini Twist is a popular fishing knot primarily used to create a double-line leader or loop at the end of a fishing line. It's known for its strength and reliability, especially when dealing with large or powerful fish. Here's how to tie a Bimini Twist:
1. **Create a loop**: Double the fishing line to form a large loop. Hold the loop with your left hand, leaving a tag end of about 10 to 12 inches hanging down.
2. **Twist the loop**: With the loop held between your thumb and index finger, twist it approximately 20 to 30 times, ensuring the twists are tight and evenly spaced.
3. **Secure the twist**: Hold the loop's twists together with your left hand, then fold the loop back towards the standing line, forming a second loop.
4. **Secure the second loop**: With the tag end, wrap it around both loops and the standing line at least 10 times. Make sure the wraps are tight and neatly spaced.
5. **Pass the tag end through the second loop**: After wrapping, thread the tag end through the second loop, ensuring it enters from the same side as where the twists were formed.
6. **Moisten the knot**: Lubricate the knot with saliva or water to reduce friction and prevent overheating during cinching.
7. **Slowly tighten the knot**: Hold the standing line with one hand and the tag end with the other. Gradually apply pressure to cinch the knot down smoothly.
8. **Finish the knot**: Once the knot is tightened, trim the tag end close to the knot, leaving a small stub.
9. **Test the knot**: Pull on both ends of the line to ensure the knot is securely tied and holds without slipping.
The Bimini Twist creates a strong loop in the fishing line, often used for attaching a leader or connecting to the double-line section of a fishing rig. It's a bit more complex than some other knots but is highly effective, especially in situations where strength and durability are essential. Practice is key to mastering this knot.

This is a great clean knot. About 25 years ago Lefty Kreh, a famous fly fisherman showed me how to whip finish the bimini knot just like this. Been using it ever since!

Good summation. I need to remain teachable, lol. Twisting the line instead of one wrapping around another is something I'll have to start doing. Most important point to a bimini is tight coils all the way thru. And looseness especially in start of coiling should be re-tied. Would like to see him do this on 80 lb off shore line

Just found your channel and really enjoying it. I have inshore fished forever and now diving into saltwater. The Bimini is a name that is mentioned in fishing for as long as I can remember reading outdoor mags and before KZbin. Here is my stupid question. Everyone shows tieing the ready to use knot. But then what? How are we attaching the leader? Is there a specific follow up to this knot? Is it a knot that is easy to have ready on each rod for changing tactics and baits? Thanks.

I use the Bimini twist for Mono/Fluoro, and the FG when braid is involved. For braid, I refuse to use anything else and for Mono/Fluoro, I will use nothing other than the Bimini. Anyway, 2 years late, but that is callled the Rizzuto Finish. I use it for both the Bimini and the FG.

I know how to tie the Bimini and have been doing it for at least a decade. However, for me, I prefer the Spyder hitch. It's stronger than the Bimini, and I have seen several online tests confirm that fact. Granted, it's not as sexy as the Bimini, but I think the Spyder hitch is a superior knot.
