First time watching Anne With an E! Commentary and Reaction to Season 1 Episode 4: "Fire-Haired Dreamer". Things are heating up (literally) as Anne and co fight fires, mitigate misogyny, and discover discomfort. Marilla starts to question her life up until this point, Ruby learns the benefit of daydreaming (delusion) and Anne saves the day by running into a burning building (again, literally). Leave your thoughts down below!

I love this healthy take on the generational trauma you point out. We've seen a lot of narratives where Marilla would force her unrealized dreams on Anne and expect more of her. But instead she genuinely wants Anne to have her own choices and allows her to change her mind.

I just love that Gilbert fell for Anne first. 🤩

I love how much you understand Marilla already. In a way, she is confronted by the same issues that Anne is experiencing. Can't wait for episode 5!!

Love your thoughts on Marilla! I think some people just take her for granted, or say she is mean, but she is such a treasure. At the same time that Anne is influencing her, Marilla is building up Anne's character too. She teaches her to be upright, honest, down to earth. Anne has a beautiful character, but she needs these things to thrive, and Marilla knows to provide them

I'm still bad for getting stuck in daydreams, but I was worse as a child. I once burnt soup because of it. Nowadays, people can be talking to me and I won't hear a word. I can relate to Anne so much. My mother was very emotionally abusive because I look like my father, so I'd go off in my own world to escape it. I got bullied for being ugly too (though Anne isn't close to being ugly, and I am) and so I'd go to school and get bullied for my looks, then I'd go home to my mom and sister doing it. I never escaped from it, so I'd myself in my imagination or books. I had imaginary friends like Anne too.

That’s fucked up that you went from school to your own home getting bullied. Why do parents and children like to bully? If it happens to them, they wouldn’t like that!! I hope you did grow and removed yourself from all the negativity. No one deserves to be bullied!! 💯

@Darkskindragon22 I've never understood it myself, especially when it comes to adults making comments to children. I don't see my mom or sister much now. I visit my mom during Christmas, but that's it. My sister didn't really escape it when we were kids, either. I don't like making excuses for her, but a lot of the time, she did it to keep it off herself. However, I never did it back to her. My mom gets so defensive about it, too, even when others call her out for it. My dad wasn't a good man, and so she gets upset and says no one understands her or why she acts that way, and if we point out that I was innocent child who had nothing to do with how he was, she gets upset and says things like: "Oh, so I'm to blame for how he was?" Which literally no one says or thinks that. It's no one's fault but his. I was six when he died, so I don't remember much. I've always felt like she thinks she's punishing him through me, like she doesn't see me as a person, but just an extension of him. Then she guilt trips me for not visiting enough, but I get anxious thinking of it. She always goes on about how my sister and I don't love her or don't appreciate her. My sister and I have different fathers, and often, my mom does the same to her, too. My sister cut her off three years ago, and I sometimes feel like doing the same, but then I feel guilty about doing that, even if it's justified.

ack i didn't have my notifications on so i missed that you uploaded this! they're definitely on now. enjoyed the reaction! definitely agree on your points about child rearing. i'm not a parent myself, but it's always evident when you see a kid (or adult) who was clearly raised without enough boundaries/discipline. but that discipline needs to come from a place of love and concern, not annoyance or control. matthew and marilla definitely have that down already with anne, even if anne may not enjoy it at times, and even if on occasion they (marilla in particular) don't word things in the most loving way, you can still see how much they care about anne in everything else they do/say. which is another aspect of this adaptation of the story that i love so much. even though anne is the primary focus of course, the show isn't only about her journey, it's about matthew and marilla's as parents, too, the struggles and challenges of suddenly being responsible for a child--especially one as unique as anne--and even the self-reflection on your own life and experiences that comes with helping someone else learn to navigate the highs and lows of theirs. looking forward to hearing your thoughts again next episode, and can't wait until you get to the best parts of seasons 2 and 3! i'll try to keep my patience lol as for patreon, i don't see why not! it'll probably be especially useful to have already set up for when your channel grows even more down the road. i don't typically stay subscribed to reactors' patreons indefinitely due to my financial situation, but i certainly do subscribe for a month or a few at a time when they're watching a show i like! if it doesn't cost money for you to upload your videos there, it might be worth it. :)

I love your intercuts, you're a very good editor. Also, I'm curious, do you sometimes speed up your commentary? Not that it's a bad thing, I've just noticed that it sometimes reminds me of when I put KZbin on 1.5x speed for discussions. Kind of a smart idea, honestly, if that's what you do.

Yeah sometimes people will speed their footage up a little bit to try and dodge copyright strikes. It's a technique that she's definitely used in other videos here on her channel.

In regards to the Patreon, here's my two cents. Assuming there aren't costs for hosting full length files (I'm not too knowledgeable about that side of things), then there aren't really any downsides to creating a Patreon. At worst, you lose some time for setting it up and have a mostly unused Patreon account. I've personally had a Patreon for some projects of mine for about 4 years now, and for the vast majority of that time I've had 0 patrons. But I've never once regretted it, because it's better to have that infrastructure there. Even if it starts with nothing, eventually you get a straggler or two for a while, and something is better than nothing. But also, in your specific case, I think setting up a Patreon is a really good idea. In my experience, reaction channels are some of the most successful Patreon accounts I've seen, and even some of the smallest channels seem to always get multiple patrons. It's pretty wild, honestly.

Again there was no age law back then not like there is today so again. Even if Anne did investigate it would go on deaf ears because nobody cared back then in those times.
