Great video! We also hit Big Bank out of Bamfield early August with great results. Can't wait to get back there. Nice shout out to Joel, a great man and very good friend. Fish on brother.

Stupid question, why launch in uclulet? I'm sure if you have to go through port Alberni anyways it's faster to launch there. It's a good 45 minutes run out to get to poet's nook

We had other reasons to be in Tofino at the time and needed the truck and boat to end up there again after the trip was over. We shot an episode in Tofino right after this and then towed it again to Parksville so it all kind of made the most sense to just launch there.

@@ReelWestCoast honestly would love to fish with you guys. Grew up on the island and although never got into hockey got into you guys due to this show. Have good memories from 15-20 yrs ago fishing there as a kid

Rats nose if I had to guess. Not fun fishing if it kicks.

What rod are you using?
@patrickmaggiora6228 Жыл бұрын
We anchored up at the rats nose and caught 6 Hali in 45 mins before we ran out of bait and then in august we did it again but jigged for coho while we were anchored and caught 4 pound tuna looking fish.

A list of gear used would be helpful.

The Herring aid flasher and Skinny G spoon from Gibbs Delta were the star of the show for us on this trip. It's our go to setup on most trips now.

@@ReelWestCoast thanks for the response, by gear I meant rod and reel, I can make out the islander reel but what brand/model rod are you using? Is it suitable to 60+ lbs salmon? Also if you are sponsored and have to use a certain brand rod is there another model you use for your personal enjoyment? Reason why I am asking is because in Cali our primary way of catching salmon in the ocean is casting rod and casting reel setup. It looks like fly style rod and reel is really popular up in Canada. I do plan on booking a trip with Joe’s salmon lodge and want to try your setup here in the Bay Area. Thanks

@@tamalpias We are using an Islander MR2 mooching reel. The mooching reel looks like a large fly reel. We primarily use mooching reels on the West Coast of British Columbia. They are single action reels which make it more sporting and challenging to land fish. We use Shimano mooching rods (TNCM106MH2A) paired up with the Islander reels. This set up is used on boats. You can’t really cast with the Islander mooching reels. For a salmon casting set up, check out Shimano technium rods (TNC106MH2A). You could pair that up with a Shimano Calcutta or Tranx reel which would be a great combo.

@@ReelWestCoast thanks for the detailed response. I have a loomis mooching rod and an edge hotshot rod for salmon. I would like to give this new technique a try because it is different. Thanks for explaining it to me.

This lodge has been for sale for years... $2.9M. The road to Bamfield is about to be paved with chip seal. The town is going to change significantly.
@ReelWestCoast4 жыл бұрын
Yes the road will be a game changer. I think the lodge would be a great opportunity for anyone wanting to run a fishing lodge or wedding/vacation home once that road comes in.
