Hi Brendan, Nice job with the big Halibut! Thank goodness you guys could raft up and overpower that fish. I’m a newby fisherman setting up my own Hobie for west coast fishing. I’ve watched a few videos on landing halibut on kayaks and can’t wait to have that experience myself. If you ever want to have another kayak hali adventure, here’s what I’ve seen other guys do that seems to reduce the stress of it. If you harpoon them through the gill plate and let them tire themselves fighting a float then get them close enough to use a short stiff blade through the gill plate to bleed and tire them out some more before bringing them onboard or dragging to shore. Really like your videos, the locations and filming are stunning. Certainly appreciate any and all info on equipment and techniques. Will definitely subscribe and share with my fishing friends. Wyatt

Thanks Wyatt! We were definitely under prepared. Due to the nature of us going out after hours and kind of just winging it we definitely didn't have all we needed. If we were to do it again we would for sure come better prepared. It made for an incredible experience and a great show but I wouldn't recommend it. It sounds like you have it pretty dialed in, if we go kayaking for Hali's again (which is very likely) we will absolutely implement your advice! There’s a specific harpoon that is compact and extendable with a better piercing point for getting through the gill plate I’m looking at retailing and I’ll set you up with one! Wyatt
