Hi Brendan, is a short raker different than the yellow eyes that are commonly found on the west coast of the island? In BC, if a short raker is caught, does it need to be released like the yellow eyes as well? Thanks for the videos, I went on my first fishing trip last weekend in Bamfield, and have been addicted to your videos. Looking forward to more.

Yes, it is a different species of rockfish. It grows bigger and gets older than yellow eye. All rockfish should be released with a descender for a greater chance of survival. Glad to hear you are enjoying the show and are getting out on the water!! Tight lines.
