Beautiful !! Exactly many carnatic trained folks venturing into film music and production think this way!! I can also see the pain going into the production of this video. Very well done!

Thanks for this video, helped a lot with understanding chords for this carnatic raga. I wonder how similar are the chords for a raga like Aanadhabhairavi, it being having the same notes as Karaharapriya but a slightly different way of playing the raga.
@KarthikSekaran Жыл бұрын
yeah, so the chords are going to be very similar. May be the chord progressions will change.

Even Raman Kathai Kelungal from Chippikul Muthu (Kamal movie) is based on Reethigowla

Any kind of explanation without including "Chinna kannan azhaikiran" for this raaga is a sin... I can jus hear the song when you say the notes of this raaga.. btw this song came 17 years before I was born 😃😁

I understand. Thanks for bringing it up. Will do a better job next time..:) Thanks for the support.

While making the melody we have to follow zigzag pattern??
@KarthikSekaran Жыл бұрын
yes. the gamaks and the zig zags are specific to Reethigowla. If you sing it plain, you might end up with Kharaharapriya.

Is there an equivalent north Indian raag for this?
@KarthikSekaran Жыл бұрын
Not that I am aware of. Bageshri comes close but there is no R in the aaroh in that though

Unknown to most people, Ilayaraja introduced this raaga to the Tamil cinema industry. Chinna kannan Azhaikiran is the song. Why don't you bring it up? Ilayaraja invited Dr. Balamurali Krishna to sing a duet song one day. He expected it would be a typical duet song from a standard raga. But When raaja sang the Pallavi of the song, Balamurali sir was amazed, surprised and shocked because no one has used this raaga in film songs previously. If possible please explore the song. I was little disappointed by this video.

Good to know people watch it till that point..:) My ignorance is due to me growing up listening in Delhi listening to more ARR than Raja. My apologies. That's a beautiful story though. I have heard the song and love it but as I said, I did not strike me at the time of recording this. Will make sure I do a better job next time..:) Thanks

@@KarthikSekaran - Ilayaraja has composed numerous songs in most of the carnatic raagam without deviating from the grammar of that Raaga. Such is his genius and even most carnatic musicians have started using his songs as a reference in concerts.
